Excellent communication with host. Fast response to requests. Clean and well-equipped home. Convenient to restaurants and close to hiking and exploring. Peaceful, beautiful grounds.
We loved this place only thing they need to do is put the unit number on the door on the side where you park they have it on the other door on the opposite entrance
We were in Vermont to drop our daughter off at Family Camp in nearbt Fairlee. This property presented well on VRBO and we were not disappointed when we arrived. Lovely location and grounds, modern unternal fitout with an excellent kitchen. Comms with owner were excellent. Highly recommended for a wonderful family stay.
We loved staying here! It was a marvelous stay in a quiet property with ready access to Vermont and New Hampshire sights. We spent one day in to just chill and enjoyed the quiet, though I don't think anyone else was staying on the property at the time. The kitchen enabled us to save on meals, and the coffee was much appreciated. Everything looked clean, and the couch was comfy, as was the outdoor seating. Allison was super helpful during our stay.
On the con side, we struggled a bit to get the unit warm enough but not too warm, and the step up to one bedroom continued to catch the feet, but we just took this as part of the vacation adventure.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay despite some challenges. We had a couple hiccups our first day, but Allison and Tina worked quickly and diligently to accommodate us. The unit was clean and very comfortable! Perfect for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. We enjoyed the firepit on the property to make popcorn and s’mores. The location is ideal for an easy commute to the Kangamangas Highway and gorgeous views of the White Mountains. Also easy commute to Montpelier, Waterbury, & Stowe, VT. So many things to do within 30-60 minutes drive!! We can’t wait to come back and do some more exploring! Highly recommend this unit as well as others on the property. Thank you, Allison & Tina!!!!

Disappointing listing
First of all, let me say that we have used VRBO for 20+ years and have a 5.0 guest rating and this is the first property that we would never return to. The cold water did not work in the only bathroom and we had to brush our teeth in the kitchen sink. When we arrived it was very cold and could not get the heat to work. We contacted the onsite manager and found out that the renter on the floor above controlled the heat/air and she had to be contacted in order to get our heat to come on. The fan/light in the dining room did not work and we had to contact the manager again to replace the battery. The lights in the house, other than the kitchen are extremely dim especially in the dining area. There are not enough towel bars in the bathroom and we laid our towels over chairs to dry because if we hung them on hooks, it was too damp for them to dry. The house is very old and there were very few electric outlets. The night stand in the master bedroom is a plant stand about 12 inches in diameter and you couldn't place too many things on it. There is absolutely no space around a miniscule sink and mirror (the only one in the house) in the bathroom to place any toiletries. The onsite manager tried her best to correct things when she was available. She brought in a mirror to stand up and an old luggage rack so that we had somewhere to place our suitcase as there were no dressers to put clothes in. Overall, this property did not live up to the VRBO standards that we are used to.
Just a few comments.
One night there were guests(?) standing right outside the bedroom window talking just before midnight. Kind of rude.
One of the guests was irate because we parked in "her" spot once.
I think there might be rats in the attic--could hear some thumping around.
We couldn't get the heater to work in the bunk bedroom, but we were fine once the core of the house heated up.
We had a lovely stay and you don't have to put any of this in your review.
Stay was close to our event (dirtdaze) we came with a 5x9 trailer and it was super easy to park, load, and unload gear.
Location was secure and only 10 minutes from a a gas station, market, and locals trails.
We had a wonderful time here. Old New England building but with very nice remodel / updates including heat pump for AC and on demand water heater along with lots of on demand TV options. Walk down the river was nice. Make sure to come at it on Shaeffer Hill off Railroad Street and NOT off Water St which has railroad tracks and a hump that many cars will not clear.
Air freshener overload, dirtiest laundry room ever
When we arrived, we unplugged the air freshener and let the place air out as much as we could for an hour. It was unbelievably strong. Things were clean. Until I went to do laundry. That area is inside a different house on the property and it hadn’t been cleaned in months. You will need lots of quarters. Also, a half-used tube of roach killer on the porch there. The bed frame squeaks very loudly if you roll over at all. The floors were clean and the shower was very nice.

Very Disappointed
The pictures of the site were not what it looked like upon arrival. Only a partial view of the laundry room, which turned out to also be storage room for cleaning supplies for housekeepers, very disorganized. Rude people outside being loud and obnoxious. Other tenants leaving trash on back porch. Some random woman came in the front door while I was there during the day, who's to day the same person came in while I wasn't there. Blind to the front door was laying on the floor upon arrival. I checked out a day early because I just couldn't stand being there. Part of a nail sticking out of the wood floor in the bedroom as well. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
The only reason I gave accuracy of online listing a 4 instead of a 5 is because it was actually under represented. My honey said Wow Stacy I didn't think this place was going to be THIS nice. It was fully remodeled and the photos online didn't really do it justice. I'm not sure if I can post my photos here, but I will try and if not I'll send them to Allison. Trish was extremely helpful and couldn't be more convenient since she lives in the building next door. The Keurig didn't work and there wasn't any soap in the bathroom dispenser and within a few hours we had both. Make sure you come up from the Railroad St side because we came up from Water St and it was a little unnerving since it's all just crushed gravel, you have to cross the railroad tracks and there are multiple switchbacks. The place was clean, modern and had everything we needed. We will definitely come back. Thank you!
It is not a great place to stay in the winter. The building was very difficult to heat- for a tiny apartment 5 different electric heaters were used and you could feel the cold air coming through the walls and floor in the main bedroom. It was also very dimly lit. We left early rather than staying another night. Would be better in the summer and fall.

a few issues
the property was as pictured. The only complaints we had was that the wifi passcode wasn't updated for the past 3 months and we had no phone service so we had to go into town to try and get a password. After that, it worked fine. The first night we had the local manager banging on our door to have us move our car to the other side of the house. That didn't appear to be in the manual and it was just a little annoying. Also, the furnace quit working so we didn't have heat. The owner did come over that night to bring us a heater and tried to figure out the problem. Unfortunately the heater only blew heat for about 30 seconds at a time. Luckily we had one small heater that we brought ourselves and another heater in the closet to use and it wasn't that cold. Finally, the driveway has a lot of potholes. All in all, it was a nice place to stay. Clean, neat, very functional and quiet.
We really enjoyed our stay in Wells River as we were able to bike, hike and kayak in the area. Groton State Forest is a Mecca for kayaking and hiking. We traveled to St. Johnsbury to bike the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. Not a lot of restaurants nearby but the ice cream in Wells River at The Big Cone and across the River at Slick’s was YUMMY!!!
