What can we say that does justice to our stay ?
From the moment we arrived in the village (we were met by Nana) to the moment we left ( a final wave from Nana ) we had a truly wonderful holiday.
This beautiful property is set in an elevated position just steps from the harbour, with a large terrace to enjoy the sweeping views over the bay and the amazing sunsets (for those feeling romantically inclined).
The accommodation was just as presented on-line - it felt spacious and airy with a touch of Nana's style. Beds were very comfortable and again, those wonderful views from the bedroom. The small kitchen was perfectly equipped for preparing breakfast or a light lunch and the accommodation was exceptionally well maintained and clean - and was cleaned regularly throughout our stay.
The accommodation was ideally located for a stroll down to the harbour or up into the village to eat - and there was certainly plenty of choice for good, inexpensive food. For those less inclined to tackle the hill, a small road train ran up through the village to the castle. There was a great selection of small shops for whiling away a few hours and without exception, we received friendly and attentive service throughout our stay - we even managed to improve our Greek a little.
All of this made for a special holiday but what made it extra special were the occasional visits from Nana and Stratis - they are such a warm and thoughtful couple.
We would have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation and have already talked about returning for a holiday with family.

Amazing views from this elegant home
I had the good fortune to stay in Heliades in June 2014. It was a real treat! The views just don’t stop. From every room you see the harbor and the sea and landscape beyond. Even the stormy days were lovely, watching the clouds shift over the sea. These apartments are newly built, but in the traditional style for which Molyvos is famous. Comfortable and amply spacious with the balconies, the units are elegant in design and decor and yet well-suited to indoor-outdoor summer living. Firm but comfy mattresses, hi-speed Wi-fi internet, a couch and satellite TV, a kitchen equipped with nice coffee maker and the best juicer I’ve ever used (for those amazing Greek oranges)… basically home away from home. So much better than staying in a hotel (and probably about the same price as two hotel rooms). The gorgeous barrierless showers have given me new inspiration for renovating my bathroom at home. And the location…! Very nearly directly across from the ruins of Roman baths, and really directly across from an Ottoman fountain. Walk a few steps down to the lively harbor. Walk a few more steps up to the castle. Walk horizontally (mostly) a few steps to access the heart of the village with lovely shops and cafes. A little “train” (new this year) will take tourists from the harbor to the village entry and beyond to Petra if so desired. Two couples could stay there comfortably (the twin beds in the second bedroom can be put together to form a double), or families with up to two children. I would happily stay in Heliades again and highly recommend to couples and families.

About the host
Hosted by Yiannis Krallis
The Krallis family can be found in Molyvos as early as the late seventeen hundreds. By the late nineteenth century they were part of a small circle of Greek and Turkish families involved in representing Molyvos to the Ottoman authorities and essentially running the village. The interesting blend of Greek identity with active participation in the Ottoman empires social and economic life can be seen in the folk art decorating the walls of the Krallis Mansion - currently in the stewardship of the Athens School of Arts - where images of Alexander the great stand opposed to whirling dervishes and depictions of Istanbul, the imperial center towards which Molyvos and more generally the Island of Lesvos were directed.
After the incorporation of the Island in the Greek state in 1912 the family retained its prominent position in the village. In the mid-1920s Ioannes Krallis, grandfather of the current owner of the house, built the power generator for Molyvos electric lighting. The little electricity factory close to the harbor provided the village with electricity till the late 50s when Molyvos became part of Lesvos grid. Still, the second world war and family deaths led the Krallis family to Athens in the late 40s. Today Stratis and Nana (parents of the owner, Yiannis Krallis) spend six months a year in Molyvos and the rest of their time at their home in Athens. Their sons Dimitris and Yiannis live in Vancouver, BC and Athens.
