Easy walk to supermarket and restaurants. Bicycles available for rent in town. We loved the open air design of our room, the gardens and the birds. Dennis is a engaging host.
We had a fantastic stay. Our cabin was very comfortable in clean. Our host Dennis was most friendly and helpful at all times. Truly enjoyed the beautiful, botanical grounds and the variety of birds we were able to view on the property. Very well maintained. We highly recommend a visit!!
Lovely welcome from Dennis, Mimosa and Chiquita, and the cabins were really cosy and relaxing, with frequent visits from the local hummingbird to the hammac. Was dreamy

Thank you for choosing Cabanas Potosi where you come as strangers and leave as friends.
Gracias por elegir Cabañas Potosí, donde llegas como extraños y te vas como amigos.
The cabins are clean and had everything I needed in a beautiful setting. Communication was excellent and Dennis and his two sweet dogs were very welcoming. It is a pleasant walk into town for meals, and Dennis gave me several rides either into town or to a birding location that allowed me to walk back. The grounds are lovely and relaxing and I saw a number of birds there. I wouldn’t hesitate to book again or to recommend to friends or family.

Thank you for choosing Cabanas Potosi. I hope you choose to return in the future.
The cabin was immaculate, nicely appointed and everything worked perfectly. Wi-Fi was also good. The best thing for me were the beautiful grounds on the property. The birds and flowers were beautiful. Dennis was a superb host. We dined together a few evenings and he introduced me to lots of local folks. When you stay there, be sure to have Dennis set you up with Mario for a birding tour! It was amazing!!
We had a very nice stay at Cabanas Potosi. The host was was very helpful and communicative and made things easy for us. The place has a lovely garden. There are only four rooms I think, which makes for a quieter stay. If you are looking for something super fancy then this place is probably not for you. We will recommend this place to others.

Nice stay … too short . Nature in abundance.
Thank you Dennis .
Cabanas Potosi is not fancy, but it had everything I needed for a nice, peaceful stay in El Valle. The property is located a short walk or drive from the town center, and is also about a 25 minute walk to the La India Dormida trailhead. Note that the lack of AC means the room can get a bit humid in the rooms during the rainy season, but the fan kept things cool. Dennis is a lovely and knowledgeable host, and his dogs are very friendly.
A pleasant stay near the charming town of El Valle.
The cabins are within walking distance of town if you like some exercise but the friendly host, Dennis is often available to give one a lift. 😊 The beds were comfortable, the grounds are well-kept, and attract some awesome birds. Breakfast of juice, coffee and delicious empanada was adequate to get us to town where there are many restaurants from which to choose. We enjoyed our four night stay and we also enjoyed meeting other international guests there.
I stayed for 2 nights with my mother at Dennis's wonderful Cabanas. It is a lovely property and has a wonderful vintage 50's era style and charm to the property. There was a sweet dog named Mimosa who was a greeter and become a fast friend during our stay there. The rooms are larger than we thought. It was a comfortable stay in the Cabanas and it has great hot showers. There were plenty of places to sit outside on the porch and also a hammock to relax in. The location is close enough to town to quickly drive in to find a restaurant to eat at. Dennis offered a nice little breakfast of coffee/tea, juice, fresh fruit and empanadas when we stayed there. Dennis and his family are such lovely warm people, we would gladly stay there again.

Cabin stay
The grounds were okay. The cabin for the money was sad. Minimum on inside of cabin. Seen its better days . Toilet seate was gross. Old wooden seat ,with open spots that bacteria has to be present. No one should sit on it. The owner was nice enough. I felt safe in and around the town. Okay place. Just needs some updating.

Thank you for choosing Cabanas Potosi and your input.
Dennis is a caring. engaging host and wonderful ambassador for El Valle. He is very helpful with recommendations on dining and exploring the area. He can also set up a birding tour in the cloud forest with a very knowledgeable and friendly local guide, Mario.
Cabañas Potosí are comfortable cabins set in beautiful gardens with an abundance of birds and butterflies. Guests can sit outside, relax in a hammock and connect with other guests. Breakfast is set on a lovely patio and includes a pastry, fruit, coffee and juice. You can easily walk to town if you don’t have a car. We had a great experience at Canañas Potosí and highly recommend them.
The grounds are beautiful and Denis was able to get us connected with a biologist to do some bird watching. Denis will put out fruit around the compost to view the birds up close.
The only minor disappointment was that I thought there were going to be cooking quarters in the room from the photos. Denis did say we could cook in his place but we did not want to put him out. There was, however, a fridge, and dishes so we did do some minor food prep in the room. Plus, there is a breakfast provided each day and there are quite a few restaurants within walking distance.

Thank you for choosing Cabanas Potosi and your nice comments. If we had been aware you were interested in having a cabin with an attached kitchen, we could have provided one for you with a cooking stove and all equipment for an extra $10 a night.
Excellent accueil !

About the host
Hosted by Dennis Wenthold
Dennis is from Iowa/USA and Mireya is from Panama and spoke five different languages As graduates of the University of Northern Iowa in 1970, married in 1970 and graduated as new teachers in 1971. We retired to El Valle, Panama in 2009, from Florida, as teachers and school administrators.
Why they chose this property
This property was bought by Mireya's grandfather in the 1940's and was a cattle/horse ranch. After the ranch was split up between Mireya's father and uncle, her mother, Patria Greco de Bernal started "Cabanas Potosi" in 1980. Also, this is where Mireya spent her childhood when not attending school in Panama City.
What makes this property unique
Cabanas Potosi sits on four acres in a lush valley in the town of El Valle de Anton at 3,000 feet with temperatures between the low 60's to 85 F all year round. It is the home of about 8,000 people and hundreds of birds and butterflies.
