This second-level suite in Uvita is one of five in a modern building and can be rented along with any of the other suites or the penthouse for larger parties - please contact Vacasa for more information. This open-air rental is cooled by rainforest breezes and recycled cement floors (although there is air conditioning in the bedroom), and the large balcony provides space for relaxing.

You can also buy a day-use pass to access the beach at Ballena National Park six miles north, which offers wildlife, golden sandy beaches, islands, and coral reefs. Dining is easily accessible either north in Uvita or south in Ojochal, and other activities include snorkeling, kayaking, Catamaran cruises, and a variety of tours.

Decent option for the price

Large spacious units. Living area can get very warm especially peak season, note the partial AC in bedroom only. No screens on sliders doors or windows so can’t open most times without bugs. Located in a good area with about 600m walk through a neighboring lane and local restaurant to beach. The restaurant there has quite good food and friendly. Beach is very nice. Be aware that property is near the hwy which is convenient to get on or out if you have a car but can get loud with trucks. Close to many local area attractions and Uvita/Ojochal but car is recommended.

Large, spacious, cavernous apartment close to highway.

You need a high clearance vehicle to exit or enter the main highway onto a blind corner where 18 wheelers come whizzing by, horns blaring. The building itself is three stories, and is entirely built of concrete. We arrived at night, and found that the stairway was not lit, so we had to find our way in the dark. A lockbox provided the key to our apartment; we never met the manager. The apartment faces the highway, and we can hear the traffic quite clearly. Oddly, there is a spiral staircase in the apartment which connects to the same apartment below. The louvered door to the staircase allows noise to travel unimpeded between the two apartments. We could clearly hear our downstairs neighbor’s heated argument our first night, and now, it appears that they both have the flu as the coughing and hacking is non-stop.... There are large wood framed sliding glass doors to the expansive deck which wraps around the apartment, which is great for bird watching and such. Some doors and windows have large gaps along the floor, tops, and sides which allow for beetles, who are attracted by the light, to enter the apartment and do kamikaze antics while banging around the room, especially when they get hit by a ceiling fan blade... We found that by covering a beetle with a glass, sliding a notecard under it, and placing it in the freezer was the most expedient way to deal with the bug. We tried putting one beetle outside, but it quickly returned. There are no screens on any of the windows, or the louvered windows. We discovered keeping lights off as much as possible helped. There is only one air conditioner in the unit, and that is in the bedroom. We found some relief in the rest of the apartment by turning the ac to high cool, and leaving the bedroom door open. The bed is a king and is quite comfortable. There is plenty of room to store everything. There are no mirrors in the bedroom. There is small side room off the bedroom that is unlit, but could serve as a room for children to sleep, but we kept our extra luggage in there. There is no lighting in this small alcove. The bathroom is very large, and there’s plenty of hot water for showers. There is also a tub. The large shower head is a treat, but the 10’ x 8’ shower stall, even with two drain holes, leaves large puddles on the shower floor. Bottles of shampoo, body wash and hair conditioner and liquid dish detergent is provided, as are beach towels and bath towels.

Luxe Makara needs an upgrade

Good location between Ojochal and Uvita. Driveway into property not well marked, especially at night. Some deep ruts at turn into driveway, so be careful if not in SUV. Mono is a big unit, with nice balcony. Unfortunately, lack of screens on windows keeps it from cooling in afternoons and during the night. Nice A/C for the bedroom. Pro tip: you can walk to Villa Leonor at Ballena Beach Club. For the price of lunch or dinner, you can access Playa Ballena, one of the nicer beaches in the area.

Perfectly equipped and huge for 2 people. Great location for visiting local beaches and villages. Wild life viewed from balcony White face monkeys, howlers, iguanas, agoutis and toucans. Katakolo next door is closed - go directly to Leonor for great food and beautiful beach access.

Comfort in a Great Location

We loved coming home to this spacious. Though sparse, it was perfectly equipped for us. Comfortable bed and private. Loved waking to sounds of the forest and several shows from monkeys and toucans. Great proximity to outstanding beaches!

Beautiful suites

I did not realize when I was booking this place that I was getting an entire unit: large living room/kitchen with a wrap around balcony, bedroom, and enormous bathroom, half of the entire second floor. There is AC just in the bedroom, but with the concrete floors, fans, and overall design, it is not really needed throughout the house. You will almost certainly need a car to access the property. It is close to the main highway (I slept with earplugs because I am a light sleeper, and that was fine). I am not sure if you can walk from the property to a beach - we drove everywhere.

I enjoyed staying here. The place is gorgeous and modern. The bed is very comfortable and AC was strong. The Wi-Fi will work on sunny days and the property manager is very responsive. Everyone was very hospitable and answered any questions I had/coordinated the taxis I needed. I love connecting with ticos and exploring where my mother is from. It fills me with joy and pride. You will definitely feel the Pura Vida. I love love loved the bathroom. The shower is huge and there is a tub. They provide candles for a lovely bath. I was able to cook for myself and enjoy the living room. This apartment has great energy. Thanks for having me!

Makara Suites is a very nice place. The Apartment is very spacious, clean and fully equiped. The bathroom, espacially the shower is fantastic. The view is fenced by large green plants, but you can see a lot of birds including tucans and monkeys in the neighbourhood. Very close there is a beach which is quite lonely, beautiful and wild. You can watch the fantastic sunset from there.

This place is absolutely wonderful. Incredible location with tons of wildlife, flora, & fauna to enjoy! Woke up to monkeys in the trees several times. The house was cleaned every day by the wonderful local hosts. Communication was excellent and we were able to check in smoothly despite our very late arrival. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (:

Uvita is between ojochal and dominical. Very peaceful, very quite. There are many things to do if you don’t have anything planned. The information center isnt that far away and you can walk in and they can help you plan a tour. The are two ways to get to chad house either you hop on another plan once you land in San José or drive. If you drive it’s about 2.5-3 hours . The drive is amazing because you really get to stop at all the local beaches and kind of plan accordingly to your week. You won’t regret staying here
