About this property
ABNER'S CABIN - DOG FRIENDLY (no extra pet charges) Close to Downtown Asheville
Welcome! Come stay at our charming cabin situated on two private acres less than 10 minutes from downtown Asheville and 10 minutes from the quaint artsy town of Weaverville. The rural setting lends to a quiet and peaceful stay for travelers after a long day of site-seeing. Almost anything you would want to do is here or nearby. Situated between the Great Smokie Mountains and the Blue Ridge, our cabin is a great home base for all of your adventures.
Our cabin is located in a community of horse farms. You'll be able to watch the neighbors training their horses in the pastures below the cabin. You will also have some wonderful visitations from deer and wild turkey on frequent occasions. Enjoy your morning beverage of choice on the covered front porch and take in the wonderful long range mountain views while eating dinner on the back deck all in the same day. Then, finish your day sitting around the camp fire located in the front yard while discussing your memories of the day.
The temperate climate enjoys four distinct seasons, with comfortable summers, mild winters, early spring and panoramic fall colors. The geographic features, combined with the climate, allows the area an abundance of outdoor activities from hiking to fishing to skiing and golf. With its vibrant downtown, Asheville offers a cultural diversity hard to find anywhere else in the US. Asheville attracts internationally known folks from brew masters to acclaimed chefs to artists of every genre. Shops, antiques, artist's studios, restaurants and brew pubs, from local grills to fine dining, are all a part of what makes Asheville and Weaverville unique.
So...just here for a few days or for a little while longer? Remember, a whole lot of nothing to do is fine and relaxing too! Almost anything you would want to do is here or nearby. Situated between the Great Smokie Mountains and the Blue Ridge, Asheville makes a great home base for all of your adventures. From Boone to Brasstown, Mt. Pisgah to Mt. Mitchell, you can get there from Abner's Cabin.
Come stay with us and see why we think our southern mountains are one of the most beautiful places in the country to visit.

About the host
Hosted by Leslie Osborne
Moving to the Western NC Mountains from Charlotte NC back in 1990 was a new venture for my family. Having lived here for nearly 30 years now and falling in love with the area and its people, it lends me to call Asheville my home. Being in real estate sales, I get to see so many beautiful properties in the greater Asheville area so I am grateful to have an older cabin to offer folks to rent that is reminiscent of the cabins I stayed in during my youth across Western North Carolina.
Why they chose this property
The cabin was built by Abner Gwaltney in 1928 and has passed through several generations of families until my parents purchased the home as their summer getaway from the heat of the lowlands of NC. I purchased the cabin in 2004 when my parents decided they could no longer make the trip to Asheville. By that time, I had moved to Asheville and decided to keep the cabin available for family members to use. In 2008 I decided to open the cabin to the public because of its great location to downtown Asheville and it gave a choice to travelers that didn't want to stay in a regular ole hotel room.
What makes this property unique
The gorgeous views of the mountains and the surrounding horse farms.
