*** Please note that there are several flights of stairs to walk up to the apartment. It is well worth the climb, but is not handicapped accessible.
*** Since this apartment is centrally located in the Old Towne restaurant district, there is the potential of noise from area happenings, particularly in the evenings. Recent warm weather alert: There is a venue on the next block that provides lively and loud dance & disco music on random late nights. While many guests love this vibrant activity, others may be sensitive to this noise. *** NO PARTIES allowed.
One of the area's most loved restaurants, Wabi Sabi is located on the bottom floor. During their business hours, you can simply walk downstairs and enjoy a delicious sushi or burger dinner. Top it off with a beer, wine or cocktail from the martini bar. Or order to-go and have a private meal upstairs in the comfort of the apartment.
Fun fact: You can catch glimpses of our building in several major movies and TV shows including Harriet, The Walking Dead, Lincoln, Dopesick and Mercy Street.
Petersburg is famous for it’s rich Civil War history and is home to many sites such as Pamplin Park, The National Battlefield and much more for history buffs to enjoy.
In recent years, Petersburg has risen to become a prime location site for Hollywood period films because of its Civil War past and well-preserved historic downtown area. It is not unusual to find yourself walking past a movie set. In fact, there is a production crew setting up right outside our door as we write this!
Some notable movies & TV filmed in Petersburg are: Harriet, The Walking Dead, Lincoln, Ithica, Mercy Street, Juanita, Turn: Washington Spies, Killing Kennedy, Dopesick & more!
Here's what Meg Ryan had to say about Old Towne Petersburg: “Petersburg was great to us ... and Sycamore Street is just a beautiful street.” “I just loved being there. I loved it” (Richmond Magazine interview)

We had an excellent stay. The experience staying in historic downtown Petersburg was awesome. The apartment was so cozy, rich, clean, and fashionable. This is the spot!
This was such a wonderful place to stay. Convenient to many restaurants: close to Ft.Jackson, comfortable bedding; beautiful decor; would go again if the occasion should arise.
An absolutely beautiful place in a central location
An absolutely beautiful place in a central location. We loved being downtown & just walking out the front door to reach pubs & sushi, with coffee shops & a dinners not far away. We're heavy sleepers so the night festivities didn't bother us one bit & earplugs are provided! But if one is a documented poor sleeper, or if one isn't able to climb stairs, those are the only reasons to not book this luxe spread.
As stated in the title, the apt. was located in the perfect location. It was adjacent to the venue where I was having an event, and I was able to check the progress on the set up easily because it was within walking distance. The place had ample room for me, my husband and a couple of out of town guests. Beautiful place..
I originally chose the Friend House because of it's proximity to the Olde Town Civic Center, and was happy to see it available again in 2024. The place is clean and fresh with enough room for 4 of us to spread out. The area is great for me and the crew with restaurants for dinner and breakfast and brew pubs all within walking distance. Just be prepared for the climb. It's a lot of stairs especially after performing for 4 hours but worth it to not be in a hotel. Our host Regan is quick to respond and very helpful with our questions.
The renovation of this apartment in a historic building is extremely well done. Be aware that there are several flights of stairs to climb to gain access to the apartment. Our only issue was that the weather at Christmas was unusually cold and the apartment was chilly, except upstairs in the master bedroom. We only stayed one night out of our booking because of a medical emergency so I can’t give a more complete review than these impressions.
We stayed here for a wedding in the area and loved every minute of it. Our 7 month old baby had plenty of space to move around. The apartment is decorated so cute and we loved the history behind it. Would definitely stay here again!
We all really enjoyed staying in your home! It’s always a pleasure to experience a fantastic location. Everything was as stated, great location for us to spend some good together! Thanks for sharing your home. We would definitely stay here again!
We enjoyed our stay here while visiting our son stationed at Ft Lee. It was convenient to there. The house was well stocked and comfortable. The views were impressive. The natural light was fun. It’s a hike up the stairs but good for the heart. The loud music at night was only a small issue as I had my ear plugs and white noise. We found plenty of shops and restaurants just out our door.
The apartment was charming and had everything we needed for a weekend getaway. We were there on business however our nights were restful and the environment was comfortable. Regan and Mark were gracious hosts who made the check in/check out process smooth. They were helpful and answered all of my questions. I will definitely stay at the Friend House again if I travel back to Petersburg VA.
We had tickets to see a show in Richmond and availability for places to stay there were scarce. But Petersburg and this apartment were just perfect. The hosts were nice and very accommodating. Loved the historic location, and building. The apartment was charming, very comfortable, and had absolutely everything we needed. Pack light so you can trek up the stairs with ease. I also recommend you bring silicone earplugs as they beat foam any day. With both of these things in mind, the views, the coziness, and the location are all worth your while! Thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
The apartment was beautifully appointed…a great blend rustic and modern.
We rented this home for a mini - family reunion. It was perfect for our family. We especially loved that the home had toys, games and puzzles that kept the kiddos happy and busy on the rainy day. Another bonus was the many eateries and quaint shops all in walking distance. Perfect weekend getaway!
Perfect hub for visiting battlefields and sites. Walking distance to great restaurants. Apartment was very clean and beautifully renovated in historic building.
This apartment was fabulous overall! Beautiful hardwood floors, comfortable furniture and beds and perfectly decorated with original paintings throughout. Bathrooms are spacious and well done. Overall we were thrilled. Owners were very responsive. The stairs are no joke! Only downside was a bar down the street that plays loud bass until 2am on the weekends. I emailed the owners and they immediately responded. Apparently the bar has had multiple complaints, but refuse to turn it down. Otherwise, PERFECT!
We stayed over the weekend to get some work done uninterrupted by kids and dogs! Very productive weekend and the owner is right about stairs but worth the climb the place is so beautiful. We were disappointed the restaurant next door was closed but found a wonderful Italian restaurant a few blocks away, Maria’s. Lovely lovely place and would recommend to anyone. Perfect location to historic downtown. The owners were very responsive. Would stay again for sure!
Beautifully renovated apartment in a historic building a short walk to restaurants, cafes, and shops. Apartment was comfortable, quiet, and well equipped with everything we needed. Spacious master BR and two smaller BRs for the kids gave everyone ample room to stretch out, making a perfect base for a short weekend getaway. Owner was responsive and flexible. We would look forward to staying here again next time we’re in the area!
I rented this property for my mother's birthday. My parents were blown away at the apartment. It was the perfect amount of space and was also conveniently located. They enjoyed not only the property but the sights and sounds outside. The decor is serene and not too overwhelming. It truly gives the feeling of being peacefully at home!
Beautifully restored historic property with modern conveniences. Easy walk to restaurants and downtown historic Peterburg.
