About this property

Quiet 2BR Cottage for Creatives & Families — 7‑min Walk to Downtown

Summer Street MV - where the spirit of summer lives
Light-filled 2BR, 1BA cottage in the heart of Vineyard Haven - a 7–10 minute walk to the ferry, Main Street cafés, and beach. Ideal for journalists and creatives who need a calm workspace (fast Wi‑Fi, dedicated desk) or small families seeking a convenient island base.

Located on a quiet, pretty residential street, vaulted ceilings greet you as you enter the living room, which is illuminated by skylights and stained glass windows rescued from a local whaling church. Enjoy the rustic charm and quietude of our space, thoughtfully designed for relaxation and rejuvenation. Whether you're reading, writing, or seeking solace, our cottage provides the ideal backdrop for your escape. Discover serenity at our A-frame retreat on Martha's Vineyard.

There is a great tradition of culinary arts in this house. Built by one of the Island’s well-known chefs, our family has embraced this legacy over the last 25 years that we have lived on Martha’s Vineyard. We welcome you to expand upon this tradition during your visit. The kitchen features a 6-burner commercial stove, new refrigerator, and convection oven. We have stocked the kitchen with a French press and coffee maker, and a full selection of cooking vessels and tools so that you can cook your own breakfasts, local seafood, or whatever else catches your fancy. Consider hiring one of our recommended local chefs to cook for you one night in the house as a special treat.

The eating nook seats 4 and receives morning light with cool cross breezes in the summer. Sections of the floors throughout the house are made from old slate roof tiles, including some laid out in the shape of a fish (or the Island depending on how you look at it) on the kitchen floor.

Two bedrooms are available, including a spacious upstairs bedroom loft with a queen bed and desk to work (if you have to) and a bright bedroom downstairs with 2 twin beds. Downstairs we offer a large couch to relax in front of the television or listen to music, and the “best friends” seating area in front of the fireplace. We are excited to offer a newly built front porch, where you can sit and enjoy birdsong with your morning cup of tea, or late afternoon peace under the dappled branches of the honey locust tree. Likewise we now offer luxury Onsen waffle towels.

Exit the back door to an intimate shaded patio with a table and benches, and an outdoor shower privately located around the corner in the wooded backyard. The yard is large enough to play frisbee or lounge around! Keep watch for the fireflies in the summer time. We are excited to offer you use of our “green egg” smoker/grill as well.

A great week

My family had a wonderful stay at this location. The cottage is a bit older but is extremely cozy, clean, comfortable and reasonably priced. The host has everything you need and the property manager was prompt and wonderful. You can walk to vineyard haven and is convenient to all parts of the island.

Chef House

Natalie is a wonderful and responsive host. The house is an easy walk to the center of Vineyard Haven and access to restaurants, coffee, and plenty of retailing.

Great Location

The cottage is very cute and quirky. The location is outstanding. I really liked being a little bit out of the center of action on Martha's Vineyard. The neighbors chatted us up and it really felt like we were part of a small town. Natalie, the host, could not have been more attentive. Excellent experience.

Great stay!

My husband, friend, toddler, and I stayed at Natalie's place for the Beach Road Festival. The location was perfect - a short walk from town and the festival. Having the outside space made it a peaceful retreat. Natalie was communicative and flexible. She provided helpful information about where I could rent baby gear. The house was equipped with everything we needed (especially for cooking!). Would recommend!

Tranquility House was perfect MV retreat

Natalie was amazing to work with! I took on a big seasonal job and needed a great home to return to after long days working with kids. Were stayed a full summer in the Tranquile House and it was perfect for our needs. The light coming in from the beautiful stained glass windows was the perfect way to start my day. Many evenings I sat in the Adirondack chair watching the birds and bunnies. The house is a nice walk to Vineyard Haven and enough out of the way that you avoid the worst of the traffic.

MV 2023

I cannot say enough about Natalie, the property owner, as she was ultra-responsive to all of my queries. From the time that I came upon the listing, through booking and continuing into our stay, she quickly answered any and all questions that I had. As for the property, it is conveniently located -- a short walk from Main Street (Vineyard Haven) and also not too far from the ferry dock and Stop & Shop (grocery store). It is also a short (mostly downhill) ride from the bike trail, ideal for me! The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, utensils, glasses, plates, etc. Despite the periods of heat and humidity, the A/C kept us cool. It is a nice, quaint house that contributed to a relaxing stay on the Vineyard.

A little piece of heaven in Vineyard Haven

We had a wonderful stay at Natalie's Chef's House. We loved the location of the house most of all. It was wonderful to be able to walk into town. The beds were so comfortable and it was a treat to have linens provided. Natalie responded quickly to one question we had and was very helpful. We loved it!

Wonderful cozy retreat.

Perfect for our party of four. The vaulted ceilings and stained glass are beautiful. The upstairs bedroom is spacious and filled with character. The skylights are a surprising added touch. House location was perfect. Nestled on a small street only a few blocks from the downtown area. Natalie was a wonderful resource, before and during our stay.

Wonderfully Unique Home

My family of 3 rented Natalie’s home for 4th of July week. From the time we walked in the door until the time we left, we felt right at home. The house was clean, eclectic, artsy and had every amenity we could have needed and more. Natalie was great to communicate with and we can’t wait until our next visit!
