This beachside property has direct access via private boardwalks to the sound side of Hilton Head Island. Calibogue Sound can be seen from all windows and is a great place to book a fishing charter. The South Beach Marina Village property offers access to manicured walkways and a shared pool, grill area, and tennis courts.

Your condo includes a large, fenced balcony with outdoor seating on the waterside and a smaller second balcony on the opposite side. The living areas of this condo feature ceramic tile flooring with an antique hickory finish, and you'll enjoy a well-appointed kitchen with granite countertops, a breakfast bar, and a large TV with basic cable. Both bedrooms also have TVs in addition to balcony access, and there is free WiFi throughout the condo.

Perfect family getaway

If you are looking for a beautiful condo with breathtaking nature views, this is the place! We saw dolphins and deer outside the unit everyday. It was lovely simply sitting on the balcony and taking in the view. The unit is right across the street from Salty Dog restaurant and South Beach Bike Rentals. An easy walk to both!

Fantastic location and ocean views!

Exceeded expectations! The views are tremendous and the decor contemporary and gathering-friendly. Enjoyed an uncluttered sophisticated decor without kitschy beach paraphernalia:) The kitchen was well stocked and serveware contemporary/elegant. This unit does not have beach stuff or reserved condiments, so bring your own gear-not a problem for us, but others may want to bring beach towels/cookers, etc. Loved this place and will look to rent again. Best for 2 couple or 3friends-each bath has dual sinks-fantastic!!

Wonderful stay. The only negative is the dishwasher and washing machine had mold and the master bath is not attached the master bedroom.

Beautiful & Quiet

Very spacious & quiet with beautiful view of Calibouge Sound. Suite was clean with plenty of seating. Nice kitchen and well furnished. If you’re looking for a place to unplug, this is it.

The Gorgeous View!!

This is the 3rd year in a row that our family has stayed in this unit. The views are outstanding. The Salty Dog restaurant and shops are across the street. Also, this is the first time our 5-year-old grandson had been to the beach and was amazed by all sea creatures and palmetto trees.

The view was very impressive! The location was great and condo was updated. The only thing I saw that could be improved was the peeling paint in one of the bathroom. Otherwise, great place!

Nice unit

Our second stay at 1896. A very nice remodel, as they opened up the condo and did a great job. Views and outdoor living space are very nice. Would rent again. The rental company however charges for insurance (which we did not want) and also for 2 gate passes (which we did not need), so keep that in mind. They also make you drive to their office to pick up the passes instead of just mailing them out. Frustrating.

Condo Was Dirty, Pool Unaccessible, Vacasa Management Unresponsive

This portion of our vacation was not good. While we love the condo itself, Vacasa did not clean it well. Floors made socks black, table and kitchen were greasy and we had to go without a pool for the entire week with no notification that is was not available.

TV In living room need replacing due to a burnin in center of screen. I had to pick the during maintenance. Instructions on new door locks needed. The property manager is excellent though in reacting to apartment shortcomings.

HORRIBLE

The AC was out for a 4 night stay. They sent a maintenance man every single day to fix it and it finally got fixed on my last 12 hours here. I can not get anyone to respond to me to get compensation. I book with vrbo alot and this has been my only horrible experience. NEVER BOOK WITH VACASA!

Quiet, safe, and secluded beach condo

The condo was spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was very modern and clean. I've never stayed at a condo that didn't have salt or pepper and there was no pantry space. I doubt much cooking happens in the kitchen, but we prepared plenty of salads, sandwiches, and hot breakfasts. The beds were comfortable. Both bedrooms had a direct view of the beach which was really nice. We regularly saw dolphins swimming and deer hanging out near the condo. The tide comes all the way in, so there are times of day where there is very little beach, but the beach is vast at other times. We enjoyed walking along the beach looking for dolphins and sharks. It's not a shelling beach, but you may encounter a small shark. We loved the gated community and walking across the street to the Salty Dog was a plus. I was looking for a quiet beach away from rap music and the smell of weed and this place met those requirements. We will stay here again.

Needs an upgrade

Views: wonderful. The unit faces NW and overlooks Calibogue Sound and Daufuskie Island. Access to the beach; perfect. The complex is right on the water. The unit has good water pressure, hot water, solid WIFI, comfortable beds and furniture, etc. Nothing to complain about in that department. The vibe of this place is of an owner who put money into the unit as an investment about five or more years ago and has done nothing since to upgrade or replace. It also lacks the small touches of a unit that an owner actually uses – beach towels/chairs, games, tennis court access, etc. Much of the furniture and carpet is worn, The main TV has a light spot in the middle of the screen, most of the pots and pans wouldn’t sell at a garage sale, blistering paint in bathroom, water damage on wall and ceiling of bedroom, dishwasher smells, etc.. It’s a serviceable place but you are paying for the view and proximity to the beach. Vacasa manages the rental and did a good job with check-in, etc. My bottom line: an overpriced unit that needs an upgrade

Great Condo, a few issues

Overall, the condo was nicely remodeled several years back, and allows for a lot of room and great views. We have stayed in this complex for the last 9 years, but this was our first time using Vacasa. I would give it 5 stars had the property rental company rose to the challenges. My biggest issue is that the only negative feedback given over the last year through these reviews have not at all been addressed. People complained of peeling paint on the walls (not addressed), worn carpet (not addressed), pillow cases for the extra pillows (not addressed), and lastly, mold in the washer. The black mold was so bad it was fully imbedded in the gasket. I called and the team (although responsive at first), did nothing to address it. I ultimately had to spend 3 hours on my first day going to the hardware store, purchasing cleaning and repair supplies, and addressing the issue myself. I was shocked that nobody bothered to follow up with me, or offer to reimburse my time and expense. We had a lovely trip, but I don’t have a lot of faith in the management company. It makes me hesitant to rent any of their managed properties again.

Wonderful sunset views

We loved the location for beautiful sunsets, biking, and golf. Although the building itself was being painted during our stay, it did not affect our stay much. This unit was very clean and nicely appointed. The door to our bathroom would not shut close but this was a simple fix after we screwed the hinge tight. We enjoyed our stay!

A Sound Location!

This is our second time staying at 1896. The location is absolutely beautiful - the view, wildlife, and privacy. I greatly appreciate this unit's updates unit is and it's time for reinvestment in a few furniture pieces and the kitchen supplies. We hope to return.

Gorgeous Views but Needs Better Upkeeping

First, the views and proximity to the beach are fantastic. That is why you are paying a premium price. However, that being said, for the price there were some pretty major issues. We had 4 guests and only one of us could shower at a time in order to receive a warm shower. The dishwasher was in need of repair. Not running properly, seemed to be backed up and had some massive amounts of black sludge inside. It also smelled terrible so we had to switch to paper products because we were not comfortable eating off dishes from in there. There were Cheeto stains on a comforter in the guest room and a large stain on an arm chair in the main area (that we were hoping wasn't blood because it looked like it). We understand that we arrived towards the end of "busy season" and no unit is perfect. However, this is our 8th summer staying here and by far the most issues we have encountered. Vacasa was quick to respond but nothing was done to actually fix the root of the problem. Hopefully these can be fixed for future guests. We would stay in this condo complex again but may be looking for another unit in the future.

Wonderful Vacation!

This is our third trip to South Beach in the last five years, twice in this specific condo. We love staying here. It's the perfect location on the island, well appointed and comfy stay. HHI is becoming our favorite place to vacation!

That View!!

The first thing we noticed was the view from this beautiful 4th floor condo! 5 minute walk to the Salty Dog, shops, etc. Large pool with plenty of seating. The beach was very relaxing and we were entertained daily by the dolphins and other marine life.

Amazing views - but condo needs some love

The views are amazing, and this *could* be a 5-star property, but this unit needs maintenance. Almost all of the paint in the secondary bath is peeling off the wall. The carpet in the secondary bedroom was REALLY bad and should have been replaced a long time ago. The paint in the master bedroom also peeling around slider door and on the ceiling. The kitchen, which is nicely remodeled, REALLY needs a deep clean. There was layers of grease running down the outside the oven. These are all easy fixes - too bad the maintenance has not been set as a priority.

Perfect views!

This is a beautifully updated condo directly on the sound. We saw dolphins daily and the sunsets were incredible. It’s an easy walk to the shops at South Beach and the Salty Dog. We would absolutely stay here again.
