Casa Anzuelo is located on the Caribbean in the coastal rain forest of Portobelo National Park. The house is two story with separate entrances, two bedrooms, one bath, kitchen, living room in air-conditioned comfort. Snorkel/fish right off the dock in a beautiful lagoon behind the reef. Ninety percent of the photos were taken within a hundred yards of the house. Truly a nature lover/ocean lover paradise. There are many options to explore locally from ziplines to fishing charters, diving charters and sailing charters. The people in the village are extremely friendly, and there is plenty of exploring locally. Snorkeling is safe and beautiful in the lagoon and at the local reefs. Watch schools of sardines and Blue Tangs swim past the dock. Hike up the mountain behind the house for amazing views of the Caribbean blues. From up there you can see across to beautiful Portobelo! Great stay in lovely place

Jim was a superb host and the accommodation is really nice with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The village is simple and friendly and the wildlife great - monkeys and sloths. The lagoon and reef outside the property is really interesting. Will stay again.

Northern Panama Getaway

The house and the property were very well managed, the accommodations also met my needs very well. Casa Anzuelo is a place to escape from the world, so if your goal is a peaceful place to read, think and enjoy the ocean & the warmth of the weather, then this is the place for you. Jim, the owner, was great to speak with regarding everything in the area as well as the background and history of Panama, and was willing to assist or help in anything that you needed. A great host!

Jim was the perfect host. We enjoyed time sitting on the porch listening to his stories. He gave us the history of the village as well as advice on our continued travel. Very nice place !

We had a very pleasant stay. Jim is a very nice host and he always makes sure that everything is correct. The house is simple but confortable. In the rainy season, however, it is necessary to pay attention to the road to reach the house.The inhabitants of the small village are really very welcoming.The snorkeling close to the house was nice. Place very exotic and we recommend it for people who like to be away from busy city.

Place at the end of the world

We have had a very nice stay at the house of Jim. Thanks again. Really enjoyed al of it. It is really a place at the and of the world. No shops no entertainment but natur. You have to like it and we did. Nice snorkeling in front of the house.

AMAZING

The "casa" was fully equipped with clean dishes, cookware, linens and towels. The location is perfect if you are looking to be away from the busy city and enjoy day trips exploring Panama. The owner Jim was so friendly and accommodating. Every day we came back from exploring and tell him about our adventure. He would fill us in on a bit of history about the area as we swapped stories. The people in the village we very nice. We were there over Carnaval so we had the chance to dance and celebrate with them. We truly enjoyed every minute of our stay. We highly recommend Jim and Casa Anzuelo in Jose Pobre, Panama.

Beautiful, undeveloped area, but best part is the host, Jim

We had to leave early, because a power outage prevented my wife from using her C-pap, and, unknown to us, she was already sick with flu--we had to come back to the states. But Jim could not have been nicer or more honorable about the situation. In addition, his knowledge of the area and its wildlife added great richness to our experience, and he is beyond generous with his time. If you like exploring a remote area of the word, and snorkeling in fantastic waters, you will love this place. We learned a lot in the short time we were there. I just wish it could have been longer.

When we first were driving to the house I kept thinking that it was in the back of beyond. It was, but that was also what made it fun. Jim was a great host. His place is was right on the ocean. He has a kayak, snorkel gear, etc. which we were able to use to see the under water lava beds with the fish swimming in the sections that have voids. He also put us onto going to a near-by island where we spent a pleasant day. There is no internet so it was fun to unplug and have fun in nature with the howler monkeys in the hills behind or in the water.

Great host, lovely apartment in a remote location

Jim was a great host from the start. Super friendly, accomidating, always ready to give recommendations, arrange anything I needed. Jim is just a great host and a lovely guy. The place itself is in a beautiful remote location right on the sea front with its own pier. The house is just outside of the small town of Jose del Mar. It can be quite the adventure to find the first time and would recommend a 4x4 if driving. But Jim will happily guide you in. The nearest mini supermarket is a 20-30 minute drive away, with a great restaurant (Panamarina) only 15 mins by car. The place is comfortable, clean and well furnished. The wifi reliable which is incredible given the location. The only small thing is its worth giving the pans and plates a quick clean before cooking. In summary, amazing host, lovely place and a great remote escape into nature.

Bird Watchers Paradise

An off the main path experience, Jim was a great and gracious host, he went out of his way to make sure everything was right. Casa Anzuelo is a very well equipped and comfortable place to stay. Sitting in the rockers on the front porch you can see a variety of birds , a sloth and her baby just down the road. and the pet chicken and dogs greets you every morning. It is not a 5 star resort but if you want to experience Panama at it's finest Casa Anzuelo is a great place to do that. It is very nice to open the window in the morning and hear the jungle wake up. Highly recommended for the people that want the out of the way, adventure. Thank You Jim, for making our stay so enjoyable.

Casa Anzuela, in Jose Pobre - Find yourself, at the endo of the road.

Secluded, tranquil, idyllic… If you want a getaway, far from the madding crowd, Casa Anzuela is it. 118 miles from Panama City’s Congrejo district, you’ve got 45 minutes of top cruising speed, until you hit Colon. Take a right and you’ll cover 50 miles, in 2 hours, along a 2 lane coastal road. Let your co-pilot or back seat drivers take pictures and do the oohs and ahs, as you’ll need to focus on the Long and Winding Road, with serious pot holes. I kid you not, these will hide in shadows and jump out at you. BE CAREFUL! In Puerto Linda, stop on the left and pick up some groceries. Full liquor, beer and wine. At around 52 miles down the sea lane, you’ll come to an unprepossessing offshoot to the left. You might see the battered sign “Casique”. Get off at the 1st part of the intersection, where it’s a relatively smooth transition. There’s a hut on the left where the guy sells veggies and has medium size heads-on frozen shrimp, $4/lb. These are quite tasty. Cruise carefully along 5 miles of dirt road (making a left at the cross) and then you’ll hit the end of the world, as we know it, (Jose Pobre). Keep left and go behind everything. You’ll come to a white bridge. Take the ford to the right, Henry. 3-4 houses down is Casa Anzuela. Park in the secluded area in front of the dilapidated pier, under the mangroves and head in, to the house. Downstairs is yours. Upstairs are your delightful hists, Jim and Shirley. Jim resembles a tall Hobbit, with striking blue eyes and Shirley could be out of Lothlorien. They are awesome! Laid back, mellow, intelligent and informative, I unexpectedly found two new, great friends. The house has everything you’ll need. The bed is comfy and the pillows downy. Ducks, chickens, 2 and 3 toed sloths and other stuff, if you’re a nature lover. The water is crystal clear. The kayak quickly takes you to the reef and great snorkeling. Dive shops abound, for SCUBA enthusiasts. Nearby are other really good, economical restaurants, bars and tourist attractions. Jim and Shirley will give you the deets.
