Himmel House was perfect for our family vacation. It lived up to everything on the listing. House was well-appointed, warm and inviting; grounds, gardens and pool were private and lovely. We all agreed that we’d love to re-book in the future.

Thank you so much for your review! We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and hope if you find yourself in the Sonoma area again that you stay with us!
This is the most well equipped and fully stacked kitchen I have ever stayed. They have anything you can imagine in a kitchen. It would have been perfect to prepare gourmet food, but we did not cook. We did take advantage of it's proximity to a few of wonderful restaurants near by.
The house is quite comfortable for our group of 5. one of the 2 bathrooms is quite small but functional. The landscape of the yard is simple and pleasant. It feels like you are in the countryside of France. The pool is sizable but the water is quite cold in a warm sunny day in May at temperature of 78-80. This is the only negative to our stay.
We enjoyed the tranquility this house offered. We would consider coming back in the future

Great house, very quiet and private. Great location as well, halfway between Santa Rosa and Sonoma and very close to Glenn Ellen and numerous wineries. The bedrooms are nice and private, with two set on one side of the living room and one on the other. Perfect for families or couples wanting to share but still be out of the way. My only complaint is that the stove, while top of the line, was maybe intended for a professional chef and hard to use for the layman, and the bathrooms/kitchen was a little understocked with necessities.

A perfect escape in the heart of Sonoma wine country away from the more crowded and touristy parts of Napa. Glen Ellen is one of our favorite places to decompress, with a few perfect spots to shop and dine out, and the house is just off Sonoma Hwy in Kenwood for easy access to Sonoma, Healdsburg, etc., but you’d never know it-very quiet and serene. House is old California in the best way, but extremely comfortable, updated, and very well equipped with thoughtful touches, particularly if you like to cook. We stayed with friends and had several great meals in the house, even using herbs and vegetables from the garden. Comfy king beds in all rooms, heated floor in the owners bath for chilly nights, and great water pressure. Pool is lovely but solar heated-might be chilly deeper into Fall. We still got good use of it on a warm October day. Looking forward to another trip out soon, we’re already missing it!

We had a wonderful time at Hummel House. The location is a perfect balance between seclusion and activity. The house was spotless and had lots of meaningful touches. Would definitely stay again.
We couldn't have enjoyed our stay more! The home was immaculate and nicely furnished. And the best equipped rental home we have ever stayed in - I love to cook, and everything we could have asked for was there (with convenient instructions on how to use!). The setting was gorgeous as was the pool. It was the first time we had stayed in the Glen Ellen area and we loved the nice variety of restaurants close by.

The Himmel House is amazing! We were two couples visiting from out of town. It was the perfect place to unwind after a full day of wine tasting. Our only regret is that we didn’t have an extra day to stay in and truly enjoy the house.
Don’t hesitate. The Himmel House was wonderful. Our only regret is that we weren’t able to spend more time enjoying the house. We were out the majority of our stay in Napa.
Beautiful grounds and a well kept older (bathrooms remodeled) home. New appliances and all the basics supplied in a well furnished pantry. Quiet country retreat.
Lovely property. Home and grounds are just as described and Hummel Hays was exactly what we needed for a trip with our adult children. Kitchen is very well stocked with any cooking utensil or gadget one needs to prepare a grand meal. Somewhat disappointed we could not listen to music outside while enjoying the pool and could not use the gas fire pit outside when temperatures cooled down in the evening. Overall, a wonderful property.
What a beautifully situated and well-appointed home! We consider ourselves incredibly lucky to have been able to stay at Himmel House on our first visit to Sonoma...it was the prefect retreat for a long weekend away for a group of 6. The property is filled with helpful notes, beautiful details and personal touches throughout that make for a relaxing and comfortable stay. Thank you for helping make it a spectacular vacation for all of us!

Lovely Getaway
This place was amazing. We arrived late and were able to settle in right away. The house was extremely easy to navigate. One of my favorite things to do on vacation is cook. The kitchen wasn't huge but had everything I needed for our weeks stay. Even though I travel a bit, I always have to run and grab something I forgotten and need (usually leaving it behind as a contribution to their kitchen) ... but not this time. You can tell there was a lot of thought that went into making this place guest friendly. We spent most of the time enjoying the backyard. The lap pool was a highlight, along with all of the outdoor options. It is so serene back there, you have no choice but to decompress. It's all in the details with this place. We'll definitely be returning. Thank you Himmel for all of the fond memories.

A lovely place to unwind in Sonoma
I have stayed at this house twice and I can’t wait to go back. The first time, there were three couples and the second time we had two. There’s plenty of room for six (and none of the bedrooms share walls), but four is better for a quieter, more relaxing getaway.
The house has a big, open living room with lots of natural light where everyone can gather to talk or play games (of which there are plenty), but there are also many places where you can go off and be alone. At one point we went and sat under the covered porch with the outdoor blankets (and with the heat on!), had a glass of wine, and watched the rain. It was so relaxing…I was worried that the rain in the forecast would ruin our getaway, but it turned out to be wonderful.
I’ve stayed in two of the rooms and they’re both roomy and nicely done, with comfort and relaxation in mind. One room has a reading area, which I loved. Each room has fantastic robes, yoga mats, a selection of interesting books, a music player, and of course a super comfortable bed with nice linens. And while I loved the rooms, I would go back just for the bathroom (I’m not joking!), which is has a heated tile floor and a shower that is incredible.
The house is close to a lot of great wineries and restaurants and they’re all listed in the house book. We especially loved Salt & Stone and Glen Ellen Star. We didn’t make the trek to Napa, as there’s plenty to do nearby. We stopped at the Village Market in Glen Ellen (great wine selection!) and bought a bunch of groceries so we could cook together. The kitchen is well equipped.
I love Sonoma and I know I’ll go back to this house, because it’s the perfect place to unwind. You feel it the minute you walk in. Everything you could possibly need has been taken care of. It’s tastefully decorated and arranged, but it doesn’t feel like you’re staying at your fussy aunt’s house. It’s very nice, very comfortable.
It’s also very quiet and private. There are neighbors around, but you don’t really see them (though you can occasionally hear them). You can definitely hear sounds of nature…listen for the owls in the evening.
Like I said, I can’t wait to go back. I’m hoping for good weather next time, but to be honest, it doesn’t really matter. As much as I love to go exploring, Himmel is a pretty nice place to be “stuck” inside.

Spectacular Getaway!
Visiting from Europe we had high expectations and must say these were met in full. We spent a fantastic week and were extremely comfortable in the Himmel home. You can feel the care and attention that has been taken to make each guest feel welcome and comfortable. The linens are soft and fresh. The decor is stylish. The location is in a quiet neighborhood where you can enjoy serenity and local wildlife but also close to all the wonderful restaurants and wineries that Sonoma Valley has to offer; we loved this aspect of it. The yoga mats and foam rollers provided in each room were such a welcome surprise... There is even a charming old train station (Kenwood Depot) just a few blocks away for yoga classes.
The house is wonderful! It is sparkling clean, has fantastic amenities, the kitchen is well stocked with dishes, cookware, any and every utensil, coffee machine and full oven. It is truly a chef's kitchen and well organized with labels! There is a small dining area in the kitchen and a large table in the living room but the real treat is dining in the backyard by the pool. Truly spectacular! We ended up eating every meal there.
Should you have the good fortune of visiting this home, your expectations will be exceeded. Enjoy! Thank you for the wonderful memories Himmel!

Anxious to return!
We have stayed in many places throughout Napa and Sonoma over the years. Arriving at Himmel was perfect, it felt so removed even though it is just a mile off HWY 12. The location is half way between Santa Rosa and the town of Sonoma. It was ideally situated for a variety of activities beyond (and including) wine tasting. It was memorable and rare to arrive somewhere and decompress so fast! It was easy to enjoy the property and all of its comfortable amenities. We appreciated the variety of venues around the property, to soak up the sun, space and nature. There is abundant natural light in the main living space throughout the day. We were able to harvest herbs from the yard for most meals. Sitting under the stars and moon., listening to the birds and wildlife, was a highlight.
This was our second stay at Himmel. You could tell the people care about the property and their guests experiences. We thought our first visit was great but on return, they had already updated many things. It was just my husband and myself but the space would be ideal for 1 or 2 couples...
Perfect, comfortable getaway-had everything we needed (except the wine:). We look forward to our next visit... Lou & Jess

Wonderful Sonoma, we can't wait to come back!
House Himmel, just as the name implies, is a special place and we can’t wait to come back. It truly feels like a home, making the whole much greater than the sum of the countless thoughtful and high-quality details. After we arrived it became immediately obvious that the hosts are going great lengths to ensure the stay is memorable for all the good reasons. From the upper terrace overlooking the pool, to the outside seating areas - perfect for breakfast, lunch & dinner, or drinks and nibbles in between - all around the property it’s evident that this place exists to slow down time, stretch tense muscles, and to aerate overloaded heads. Everything is intelligently meticulous, while also warm and well composed, and ultimately welcoming so we can’t recommend this house enough for your next trip to the Wine Country.

Luxurious Comfort
As you pull into this adorable ranch style house, up a really long private driveway, it has a huge front yard. But, then when you walk in and start to acclimate to the property, you walk into the back yard, wow, stunning. Everything is so comfortable yet lush and posh, exactly what we want for a stay away from home. I am someone who loves stuff... honestly, this place has everything you need. I don't think I have ever stayed in a rental house like this. So much thought went into everything you might need. Kitchen, bathroom, toiletries, linens, guidance signs (so I didn't have to use the house book to figure things out). We didn't even want to leave to go wine tasting! Every one of the three bedrooms is very nice, king beds in all three rooms, great for 3 couples. All communications with the agency were super easy, professional and quick. We really hope to return. A retreat treat!
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Himmel House in Kenwood. We felt like we were at home, but clearly there was much more that we could only wish we had at our home. The house was clean and well suited for our relaxing book reading, afternoon laps in the pool needs, and casual dining prepared in a kitchen that has all the appliances, glasses and dinnerware that we fully utilized. The grounds around the house are amazing and the house location has a secluded private vibe but is easily accessible (10-20 minutes) to a market, restaurants and wineries. If you do stay at the Himmel House look for the drawing diary that the owners encourage you to draw in of an animal or flower that you saw on the property. We’ll be back with our east coast friends to enjoy the best of the west coast!

5 Star R & R Experience – Himmel House Has It All
If you’re looking for a perfect respite, Himmel House is for you! From the moment we approached the property on the inviting private driveway, we began to unwind. The home is orientated on a lovely knoll where we felt completely removed from our typically hectic urban pace. And although the neighbors are close, you do not see other houses from the majority of the one acre property. Step inside and your relaxation commences in earnest. Himmel House has all the amenities you could ever want, from the well-appointed kitchen to other features such as hand fans, loaner straw hats for hot days and outdoor lap blankets for cooler evenings under the stars. For the creative spirits, the home is even stocked with “how to draw” books, colored pencils and sharpies (for those artists confident enough to start right off with ink!) The home is fully furnished and surrounded by beautiful grounds - a perfect setting for a much needed R & R.
We were amazed at the number of things to do and points of interest “off campus” in this rural setting. Wineries, shops and restaurants are all nearby, including the charming communities of Kenwood Village and Glen Ellen. Himmel House exceeded expectations - it was quiet, private and immersed in nature. When we left we felt renewed and ready to face the challenges of city life – knowing that we would again return to this beautiful spot in Sonoma County’s wine country.

Nature-filled, calm, and great design!
Highly recommend! From the SF Bay Area it was an easy drive, and we went from the chaos to quiet in a little over an hour.
We were looking to do some hikes, and lots of options were outlined in the info book. Sugar Loaf is a must-do; even ended up doing a little bouldering. Good food options nearby (guide book is funny and lots of "secret" tips).
My favorites: GREAT sleep (really comfortable beds), yoga mats in the room for stretching, fresh herbs in the garden and a well-planned kitchen. Can't wait to return.

Highly recommended tranquil retreat from SF
My now-husband and I stayed at Himmel to unplug and celebrate our engagement. The location was perfect; it was an easy 1 hour drive from our apartment in San Francisco but it felt like a complete escape. We cooled off in the lap pool as soon as we arrived and then lounged on the deck with a glass of wine. The house is thoughtfully oriented on a knoll so you feel completely removed from any kind of hustle or bustle. The hosts were incredibly considerate about all aspects of the home. The house itself was thoughtfully laid out, with everything we needed to prep snack and meals or simply relax. It was stocked with lovely amenities, like hand fans and loaner straw hats for daytime in the sun, and outdoor lap blankets for evenings under the stars. The house rules were easy to read and helpful for navigating the house and property. We had a lot of fun drawing the animals (owls, dragonflies, etc.) we saw around the property using "How to Draw" books the hosts supplied. There was also a book with thoughtful suggestions and maps for where to eat, shop, and drink nearby. We honestly felt like we had a local concierge at our disposal. We took their suggestion to explore Sugarloaf Park, which was an unexpected forested gem in the middle of wine country.
Himmel was absolutely perfect for our weekend away and we recommend it whole heartedly. We hope to be returning very soon!

Perfect getaway
Perfectly quiet and secluded, coming from the east coast, this was an ideal getaway. The property and home are in an ideal location, with several areas to relax, and the owners have thought of every detail throughout the home. We didn't get to enjoy all of the amenities, as it was too cold to take advantage of the pool and backyard, but the house was very cozy and the heated patio with yard blankets was surprisingly enjoyable in the rain. The skyline was beautiful in winter but we can't wait to return during sunshine.
