About the host
Hosted by Nerissa C. Rivera
Josh and I work remotely for the family business; we’re a 5-star licensed electrical contractor based in Brooklyn, NYC. As of 2021, we now live full time in Puerto Rico.
Josh spent a large part of his childhood in Puerto Rico (Bayamón) and has lots of family who now live in Hatillo and Arecibo. Nerissa was born in Guyana in South America (a former British colony), the only country other than Brazil, where the primary language is English (not Spanish). She grew up in Queens, NYC and is a city girl at heart.
We met in college at Pace University in NYC, and have been married for 20 years (no kids but we have plenty of the 4-legged kind). In 2015, Josh’s then employer offered him the opportunity of a lifetime to work full time in Puerto Rico! Nerissa’s employer offered her a full-time work from home Recruiting gig so she was also able to continue working from PR.
We spent most of 2015 living/working in Islote, Arecibo. In 2016, we started looking for and found our future retirement home, which we now lovingly call Casa Ocean Breeze. In September 2017, Hurricane Maria did a number on her but we were very blessed to quickly repair and/or replace what was damaged (sans FEMA). Now, every time we plan a new home project, we ask ourselves, "Is this going to be Hurricane Maria proof"?

When we’re not working, Josh and I like to travel, especially to beach destinations. We enjoy spending time with family, friends and our fur children. We also love hiking, snorkeling, live concerts, reading and working around the house.

Why they chose this property
We wanted to be close to family and an ocean view was a requirement. We found a For Sale listing on a local online directory in January 2016. The first time we visited in person, it was nightfall and with cell phone flashlights in hand, we knew she was the one! This home was a bank foreclosure and we were very lucky to be in the right place at the right time!
What makes this property unique
You will fall in love with the amazing panoramic ocean views and especially with the refreshing breezes constantly passing through. It's so easy to take a nap on a hammock or just sip on your morning coffee while you watch the iguanas in the trees and listen to the birds sing. We love how spacious each room is and there is no doubt, you will find your own favorite corner to spend time in.
