Gnome Away from Home was a cozy tiny house. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing. The hostess was accommodating and had excellent recommendations for fishing and hiking spots. My pup especially enjoyed the farm.
My wife and I stayed here with our dogs and it was perfect one night stay. Their farm is beautiful, the cottage was plenty spacious and very clean, and our pups even got to make some new friends with the goats and cows roaming around the property.
We had a wonderful time, visiting with the animals and wandering the property. Everything you need is in the cottage and all questions were answered promptly! The perfect place to get away from it all!

Please read the description before you book. The location is shared with an active farm, and the driveway leading to the cabin is riddled with potholes, some deep enough to damage cars if you are not careful. The cabin has a window, an AC unit, and a portable space heater, but it did not get above 54 degrees inside. No Wi-Fi, no washer or dryer, no stove or oven, but you get a microwave and a toaster oven. The refrigerator broke during the stay and ruined the food for Thanksgiving, but if you like Goats and Llamas, chickens and geese, this is the place
This place was perfect for my 2 year old and I. He had plenty of area to run and play outside. The animals were very friendly and fun for my son as well. The cabin has movies and games for when your not able to get outside due to weather or if you just want to stay inside. Our experience was great. Many memories were made with my son.
Easy check-in/out but was a little confusing (probably because i didnt read everything). Nice, quiet, and comfortable place. We hope to be back again soon.
This place was amazing! We just stayed one night after driving over from Asheville to check out the Lost Sea (worth it) and taking in the downtown area. We had food and drinks at The Lazy Beagle (also worth it).The Gnome was perfect for us. The kitchen was very well stocked with just about any gadget you'd need to cook with, super hot shower, comfy bed, and we loved sitting in the rockers on the porch after dark. We also loved hanging out with the animals (even the cranky geese-haha!)The best part, however, was our host, Casey. I totally screwed up the arrival date and didn't realize it until right before we were already on the way. I emailed Casey in a panic explaining what I'd done and begged for help. She stepped right up and handled it like a pro. She explained they weren't quite ready for a 'day of' check in since nothing was on her books, but that she would make it happen. She got the place cleaned, raced to provide clean sheets and towels, and emailed us the place was ready by the 4 pm check in time. Pretty impressive turnaround as the folks that had just left on the day we were coming used up everything. I'd use VRBO more often if they had hosts like Casey. Don't pass up the chance to stay here. We will definitely be back!
Great place to relax while watching the farm animals graze; the neighborhood dog chase and herd the farm animals. The backyard views are amazing! Close to Sweetwater historic town. Yurt in the back near a body of water looks like heaven also. Ive already recommended this place to family. We plan on revisiting!
The property was exactly as described and allowed my dog to "meet" goats, chickens, and alpaca for the first time. I was rather surprised the roosters did not crow more. We (me and the dog) had a very relaxed, enjoyable stay.
The cottage on Casey’s property was charming and perfect for our needs. We love living minimally, so the studio layout was great. We brought a foam mattress for our daughter. Even though the cottage is near Casey’s home, we felt relaxed and had privacy throughout our stay. Casey’s thoughtful touches like fresh cut flowers and farm eggs made us feel right at home. Our daughter especially loved seeing the animals and petting/feeding the goats! We were able to visit our family in Rockwood and explore some local attractions like The Lost Sea underground lake, the Duck Park, and Knoxville Botanical Gardens. We had a lovely time and miss it already!
So much fun! For us the best part of the stay was the animals. We were able to hand feed the goats. The alpacas are so soft and the chickens, ducks and guineafowl were delightful. The cows on the next property over were entertaining as well. The bees were pretty low key due to the time of year that we visited.
The house has everything you need to be comfortable. Instant hot water and nice water pressure. The heat and ac work well. The kitchen had all the comforts of home that you can plug in. Fully stocked with dishes, pots, pans, utensils and most importantly coffee makers (both coffee pot and kureg).
The house was perfectly clean. The bed was comfortable and so were the pillows.
The host was quick to reply to any question we had and she even did little extra things to make our stay wonderful.
We brought a 70 lb dog with us and he had the time of his life.
Outside there is a nice porch with a beautiful view of the sunset. Fire pit and hammocks are available in the yard. There is a basketball hoop.
It's a lovely property with lots to walk around and see.
I can't wait to come back again.

The location of this property was what we wanted. The owner was flexible about pets and easy to communicate with. The property was clean. We're sorry that it was raining and we didn't get a chance to see the animals. Everything worked ok. The only issue we had with the property was that it's NOT a one bedroom. It's a studio without a couch or chairs to sit on if you don't want to be on the bed.
I'll be honest, the only reason I booked this property was because of the animals - they did not disappoint! The cottage itself was very cute and homey. We enjoyed our time here!
We had such a lovely stay... wish we could have spent more time there on-site. The property was very clean and manageable for myself and 3 of my kids, and the lovely bouquet of fresh flowers was so beautiful! My kids loved interacting with the animals...it got them cheerfully out of bed in morning after some very long afternoons/evenings spent elsewhere. 🙂 The peacefulness of the property was refreshing and I enjoyed the few opportunities I had to sit on the porch and just soak in the atmosphere. I truly hope we are able to come stay again!
Very clean and private studio with plenty of nature. Host met needs and ensured everything was in order. Great getaway off the grid a bit but with great hikes, vineyards and the lost sea near by.
Hi there! Our family moved to east Tennessee after years of dreaming of living near the mountains. We are all nature lovers and enjoy every little thing this area has to offer. We are extensive travelers and look forward to new adventures. We purchased this property in 2019 and at that time it was in pretty sad shape. The trees had recently been harvested and the property was a bit of a mess. We have slowly began replanting and cleaning up as time allows while continuing to grow our hobby farm. We are thrilled to be able to share our space with others <3
Why they chose this property
We have always dreamed of living in a log home but also have been fascinated with going tiny. This property gave us the best of both worlds. We live in the main home and share out tiny home/cottage with guests. This property also is in such an ideal setting for anyone wanting to unplug and relax. Beyond that we have been given the opportunity to take a property that had not previously been respected and make it beautiful once again.
What makes this property unique
On the property guests have the unique opportunity to interact with our free range farm livestock on a daily basis. You are welcome to collect fresh eggs for your own use and to wander the property. During the warm months you are also welcome to help out in the garden or simply pick your own fresh produce. Star gazing at night is beyond incredible and beauty truly surrounds the entire property.
