Wonderful hosts, wonderful home, wonderful trip!
My family (wife and 3 "kids" 18-25) just spent 3 nights at the villa. Our first visit to Sicily included 3 nights in Villafranca Sicula sandwiched between stays in Taormina and Cefalu in order to visit the town my grandparents left 100 years ago. With extended family still living there the villa was the perfect base.
The entire DiRosa family were absolutely fantastic to us all. I simply cannot say enough about their warmth and hospitality. We had several complications - all due to our - actually my - less than perfect planning, and they could not have been more generous or accommodating while helping us out.
As for the home itself, it is impeccably maintained. Spotlessly clean, with all the comforts of home and more, like being able to eat grapes off the vine. Many decorations, including the patio are filled with the beautiful ceramic work of the local artist and the views are spectacular. We booked this home because of its proximity to family, and I can honestly say that we left feeling as if the DiRosas were also family - they certainly treated us as such.
With stops in Colomonaci, Agrigento, Sciacca, Borgia, and various family members homes, in addition to walking through Villafranca itself, our stay was packed with activity. If you have family or friends in any of the nearby towns, but want to have your own space in the morning and at night, this is truly the perfect place. We even enjoyed a final espresso with family on the patio our last night. And, if you don't have family in the area but are looking to visit small town, authentic Sicily, while being close enough to visit beaches and some more touristy areas, Villa DiRosa is a great choice. I certainly hope to be able to visit again.
