The Carriage House was more than wonderful! There were so many little warm touches and it was beautifully decorated! The property was impeccable! We will most definitely stay here again in the future! I hated to leave!
Wonderful host. Made the best breakfast. Do not pass the breakfast up if you stay in this beautiful cottage. Very clean. I would highly recommend staying if you’re in the Goldsboro North Carolina area.
This is a really special place to stay. Definitely off the beaten path! The hostess was kind, helpful and the place is just too cute! Beautiful old hardwoods, vintage bed, clean kitchen and a nice porch to relax on.There's also a nice small pavilion you could likely use to cook out, but we didn't take advantage of that.If you need modern convenience, WIFI was working too.Nice place to stay!!
Awesome renovated carriage house with country charm and warmth. If you like being in the country and good down to earth people, this is a perfect getaway. Close enough to the AF base and town to enjoy the airshow and totally relax afterwards.
Ms. Mary Betty and her family are excellent hosts. We enjoyed staying in the charming carriage house to celebrate our anniversary, and would definitely return again. Making biscuits with Ms. Lillie was an added bonus!
Mary Betty was so accommodating & a great host. Everything you could need is in the carriage house. We were in town for a wedding and she even supplied us with a lint roller - just little touches that made the stay that much nicer!
From the time we walked into the main house to say hello to the moment we closed the door to leave, we felt like family. The cottage was very cozy, comfy and clean! The beds slept better than mine at home. My daughter and I were even allowed to borrow the golf cart and roam around the farm. We had breakfast in the main house and it was best scrambled eggs ever, cheese grits, sausage, fruit and juices. We will definitely be back!
Was not able to stay it was not what we expected and they had a very rude worker there. We had to cancel cause place was very small and was not going to separate my family have not received any refund yet and cannot file claim website does not work right

We offer the Carriage House as two rooms, if needed. This guest did not request special need for information on the space. We have an additional room not on VRBO just adjoining the Carriage House at NO charge with private bath and the guest refused to view anything further. I am not aware of anyone being rude to this family. The owner spoke explicitly to the guest about the amenities we offer.
A beautiful and relaxing surprise. Perfect pair with Chef and the Farmer.
There is something just right about the Carriage House and the entire experience at the Kearney's farm. We were arriving around 9 pm after dinner with friends at Chef and Farmer. It was a pleasant drive out of town into the country to get to the Inn and Farm. When we arrived, there were beautiful rows of corn and a beautifully kept Inn, Carriage House and working farm. Mary Betty and I had arranged to leave the key as we were unsure how late we'd be. When we arrived the place was lit beautifully. There is a porch area in front of the Carriage House with a fan, barbeque and smoker (They also sell the meat they pasture raise and antibiotic free right next door). Leading up to the Carriage House is a comfortable and quaint front porch with two rockers looking out to the corn fields. Upon entering this 1850's beautifully kept and updated small house, Mary Betty has it set up in a way that feels special, with beautiful attention to the objects, furniture, linens, lighting that make is so comfortable. The temperature was set perfectly for our summer night and there was a kind and informational note on the fridge that helped us to some info about the property and the well functioning internet.
I sat for a minute out on the front porch and Mary Betty pulled up on her mower; she was out mowing the acres. She was kind, welcoming, practical and immediately put us at ease, inviting my wife and me to walk the grounds.
After settling in, we sat in the covered area for a while, feeling the breeze. The sky was clear and there were no mosquitos. Out in the distance, there's a hammock, swings and as we learned from the note on the fridge, an electric golf cart for use. They have a store on the farm where you can buy their pasture-raised beef and pork.
Then we played, cards, watched a show on tv, and had a good night's sleep. Mary Betty left a fan in our room especially for me as I need the sound to sleep.
We slept in, missing the country breakfast that sounded so good. Now as my wife gets ready, I'm sitting on the porch, listening to the calls of the birds and the relaxing wind chimes.
The only note I would give is the following: It's a bit hard to tell from the pictures -- the place does sleep 6, 2 in the converted sitting room, which has its own door and a separate entrance to the restroom. The beautiful master bedroom has two extra beds as well.
Staying here really added a beautiful, unexpected experience as part of our trip. Appreciate you Mary Betty!

Thank u for such a kind review. We will hope to see you again in your travels to Eastern NC.
Very peaceful atmosphere. We enjoyed the golf cart ride around the farm. Finally got to meet Miss Mary Betty at the end of our two night stay. Such a sweet hard working lady maintaining a farm along with her family. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. It met all of our expectations.

Enjoyed having you both here onour farm. Safe travels!
This was our second time staying at the Carriage House. We come there to visit our son, who lives in Goldboro. It was a delightful, relaxing stay. We had everything we needed, and the setting is so peaceful. We also enjoyed getting to know our hosts! Thanks, Mary Betty! We'll be back if we need to stay in the Goldsboro area again!
I needed a quiet, peaceful getaway “now”
I sent my request on a Thursday morning and within two hours I was confirmed for my next day’s travels. Thank you, Mary Betty! The charming cottage and its beautiful farmland surroundings provided me with all the peace, comfort, and stay-cation relaxation and reboot that I was looking for.
Mary Betty is the epitome of a southern lady! She was warm and welcoming and even allowed us to check in early. She gave us full access to the farm and the outbuildings on the property and even welcomed us to the use of her golf cart to scoot around the property. Our group fell in love with the "turkey brooding house" turned into the most amazing event venue-- 14,000 square feet of charm and atmosphere! The location of the carriage house was in close proximity to the Paramount Theater in Goldsboro where we were attending a show on Saturday night. This property comes with our full endorsement- it was perfect for our needs!
All my worries were over when we pulled up to "my" carriage house beside the "big" house. I feel my self relax. It reminded me somewhat of how a weary traveler 100 years ago must have felt returning home...safe, welcomed, comforted, and cared for. And that's exactly how our stay can be summed up. The accommodations are a beautiful blend of antiques to state-of-the-art. Our hosts were gracious, available, and welcoming. We couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate my husband's 66th birthday. We had a blast!!! Go see for yourself...go to the plantation of yesteryear!!!

Hope your meats are good. Had loads of fun so come back when you can!!!
We were a party of six and four of us stayed in the Carriage House and two stayed in the main house. We showed up late and Mary was so kind about it. She is just amazing. The property is beautiful and we strongly recommend as a place to stay!
My husband made reservations at Chef and the Farmer and this was only 30 minutes away and well worth the drive. Owners were very friendly and allowed us to drive around their farm on a golf cart. If you like history and rural settings this is the place to stay. We plan to go back!

About the host
Hosted by Mary Betty Kearney
We welcome you to enjoy a visit to our farm, rock on the porch, and take in the country lifestyle.
Why they chose this property
The Benjamin W. Best House was threatened by destruction in 1997 when its owners decided that their tract needed more farmland and that the then-vacant house was superfluous. Following intervention by Preservation North Carolina, Ossie and Mary Betty Kearney purchased the house in 1998 and, because it could not remain on its original site, moved the house that April 7th to its current location ten miles south. In its new location, the house stands less than two miles southeast of the Henry Best I House and approximately three miles west of the Best-Harrison House, a turn-of-the-nineteenth century dwelling constructed for another descendant of Henry Best.
What makes this property unique
The Benjamin W. Best House has completely been renovated to its original status and was listed on the National Registry of Historic Places in February 2006. It is located on a 7th generation working family farm.
