About the host
Hosted by Colleen Brooker

Colleen was born in South Jersey and raised in Vermont. Roger was born and raised in Trinidad. He fell in love with sailing and one day sailed to St John with friends. We both loved traveling. We met on a little Vitran bus on St John. Roger took me sailing around ST john and the BVI on his 39' sailboat "Storyteller". We were married on St John and our first baby was born in Coral Bay,
We moved to Calais Vermont in 2005 when we had our second baby. We bought a project and fixed it up. We missed the VI and moved back in 2008. We moved onto our 50' sailboat "Storyteller". We got to sail down island with our boys to Trinidad. We moved ashore in 2013 and began finishing the house. We hope you enjoy our house!!

Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this house, even as it was, an unfinished project. We saw so much potential. Colleen lived in this neighborhood when she was traveling through in her twenties and fell in love with it then. Tucked away and quiet but yet close to Coral Bay. One of the only large plants it had was a big Travelers Palm in front. The flat protected land was perfect for gardening. We loved the fact the land already had mango trees and Soursop trees bearing fruit. We finished the house with the new design in 2017. We designed the upstairs bedroom with the help of an architect. It was inspired by the book "Caribbean Style".
Roger was here for Hurricane Irma. He stayed in the house with good friends.

What makes this property unique
We are off the beaten path a little but close to everything. The peaceful location is on a dirt road, yet walking distance to Coral Bay and the harbor. Surrounded by trees with lots of birds. There is a nice cooling breeze through the valley. We grew lots of fruit trees on our little 1/2 acre. There are mango trees! We planted a lot of coconut trees. The new deck is lovely. The grill is out there too....great place to barbeque. We added the hot tub last year. After a day of hiking or at the beach it is so relaxing to sit in there.
