Lovely stay in a pretty town with all the island has to offer
We have had a lovely stay at this delightful house. Its location is ideal for exploring the beautiful town and Port: just round the corner from an excellent restaurant and the bike shop; easy walks and cycle into town and to the beach. Ars is a lovely spot with galleries, shops, church, restaurants and cafes, the daily market and the bright little harbour. Easy access to the beach and the cycle paths around the Island. Really good for teenagers to be able to go off and explore for themselves. Our hostess could not have been more helpful - she was there to meet us on arrival, speaks excellent English (which is helpful), was great for directions and excellent recommendations, super-prompt e mail replies, very helpful and even did a same day dishwasher change when the original broke! The house was cool downstairs in the heatwave, and is nicely furnished with lovely paintings. We really recommend the house and location - you do just need to be a bit accommodating over the shower-room and single (separate) toilet, but it was not a problem at all. We arrived by train and taxi and then hired bikes. We loved the cycle paths. Our advice is that you would be mad to bring a car - don't do it - the streets are too narrow and a car is totally unnecessary. The cheap and reliable bus got us back to La Rochelle in time for our train home. Thank you very much for our lovely stay - we shall return!
