Wonderful stay! The home is full of history and charm with amazing views. The house and guest cottage accommodated our family so nicely. My family loved having multiple areas to enjoy the views and the ocean breeze. Can’t wait to come back to New England for the summer.
Delightful place. Lovely location across causeway from town and harbor, above cove beach with open ocean views. Nice safe neighborhood with big trees and lovely gardens. House has charming rooms. Kitchen just the right size and well equipped. Nice plantings and big back yard lawn with views. New front porch/deck overlooking beach. Easy walk (or drive ) to village center with cafes, village supermarket, some nice restaurants etc. Very relaxing vacation and very nice communicative (when necessary) owners. We would happily stay again for even longer! Highly recommended!!
The area was beautiful, wish I could say the same for the house
Upon arrival we noticed there was no way to lock the guest cottage when you leave. After being exhausted from our long drive one of us had to run to a hardware store to buy a lock so that our belongings would not be taken when we left. Not the way you want to start a relaxing vacation. Upon further inspection of the property we noticed it did not appear to have been recently cleaned and was very cluttered. We knew the house was old, but we at least expected it to be clean. The kitchen floors were dirty and we found old food on some of the silverware. The grill was rusted and had food dried and caked on so bad there was no way we were using it. We had to clean the whole kitchen and bathroom(the shower curtain was covered in mold) just to feel ok staying there. The whole house was dusty and didn't appear to be really cleaned in a long time. There was dog hair in all the stair corners(luckily nobody in our group was allergic). There were a lot of us, so finding another place last minute was not happening. Luckily we brought some sheets and pillows or else we would have had to wait for the wash to be able to sleep. There was a washer/dryer combo in the kitchen which took 3.5 hours to do a small load. We were informed later from the property owner that there was a washer and dryer in the basement, but the ceilings were so low you needed to go down backwards. We made the best of our stay, but would never stay there again. If you like cleaning on your vacation and spending a considerable amount of time on the phone trying to secure a refund then good luck to you. I would not recommend this rental to anyone, and trying to have a conversation with the host was a waste of time. He was always being defensive and never felt responsible for anything.
The house gave us the feeling that we were staying in a cottage from that Jane Austen book turned TV movie. The house is beautifully situated to not only enjoy the surroundings of the ocean and beaches, but also the coziness of the house during a rainstorm.
I would definitely recommend the house to any family looking to relax and at the same time be able to explore natural surroundings of ocean, forest trails, or nearby historical sites. Just one warning, though; it’s an old house so it has some quirks and must be treated with care.

Great view, but just okay
The home has beautiful yard and wonderful view of the water from both the front and back yard. The space is great for outdoor gatherings and is conveniently located near the harbor and James is very responsive. Unfortunately, the space could use some updating. None of the doors truly worked and the beds were not very comfortable. This rustic charm home is perfect for those on the go!

We are a family of 5 and so enjoy our time on First Cliff!
Why they chose this property
The air and sea are special from the vantage point of this unique bluff overlooking the Atlantic. Built in 1866, the original owners chose one of the best spots of all the four cliffs in Scituate!
