About this property
A Blowing Rock Property-Ideal for summer get-aways, fall colors, &winter skiing
Welcome to our mountain home! 9.8 rating with 303 guests' reviews
The mountain view is tremendous whether you love watching the sunrise at the start of the day or are more of a sunset person! Enjoy relaxing in the rockers on the large deck with a mountain view, or perhaps some time in the hot tub is more your idea of total relaxation! At dusk we often see deer in the back yard. Spend some time on the deck sitting around our gas fire pit. Take in an Appalachian football game this fall--10 minute drive to the stadium! Your dogs are welcome to join you on your getaway as well. We are a 5-minute drive from the ski slopes at Appalachian Ski Mt and a 10-minute drive from Tweetsie. In the summertime you can hear a faint train whistle in the backyard.
Our home is located at an elevation of 4,500 feet on Appalachian Ski Mountain in Blowing Rock. The main level consists of a comfortable living room with a 50-inch smart TV w/cable and DVD, stone fireplace with gas logs (operated with a remote control mounted on the wall) new (2025) leather recliner sectional sofa and loveseat, and 2 leather recliners with ottomans. We also have a good collection of books for the readers in your group!
The dining area has large windows to view the mountains, There is a large table with seating for 6, a small table with seating for 3--4, and 4 bar stools.
The kitchen is fully-equipped with dishwasher, microwave, Keurig and drip coffee-makers, coffee bean grinder, toaster, 2 crock pots, toaster oven, disposal, food processor, side-by-side refrigerator with icemaker and water and ice dispensers, glass-top range, disposal, cookware, extra large set of china and flatware.
The master suite (main level) has a king bed, cable 55-inch smart TV, private bath with glass-enclosed shower, and doors to the large wrap-around deck with the beautiful, covered hot tub overlooking the surrounding mountains. There is a hamper with beach towels located there for your use with the hot tub.
The main level also has a smaller 2nd bedroom with king bed, cable TV (Smart TV), and full bathroom (shower/tub).
Upstairs is a king bedroom with picture windows to view the mountains and overlooking the play area in the yard. It has a king bed, cable smart TV, and rocking chair.
The second bedroom upstairs has 2 double beds and also has a smart TV. There is a full bathroom with walk-in shower upstairs.
July 2025: New air conditioning system and furnace installed to ensure comfortable temperatures all year! There is a thermostat upstairs to allow that level to have its own desired temperature. The system is correctly operating at full power--cooling down to 60 degrees in the summer and toasty warm 80+ in the winter.
All mattresses and box springs are encased in certified bed bug protective covers for your safety.
The yard is large and relatively flat with a playground for kids and a bench in the backyard to sit and gaze at the views.
We have a gas fire pit, a gas grill and picnic table on the deck.
Our driveway is fairly flat, and is paved, and will accommodate up to 5 average-size vehicles--2 in the attached parking pad to the side, and 3 back-to-back in the driveway In the winter months we have a service that comes to clear the driveway for your safety.
Our private neighborhood is a nice place for walking, and we have a reading bench with a small outdoor library 2 blocks away. It is a very quiet neighborhood with very little traffic.
Our excellent cleaning staff prepares our home prior to your arrival and our certified hot tub technician cleans and sanitizes the hot tub prior to each guests' visit.
Conveniently located between Boone and Blowing Rock and close to the High Country attractions… it is a perfect mountain vacation home----ready for you to enjoy resting, relaxing, and spending time with family and friends.
We were very fortunate that we did not have any damage or water issues to our home from Hurricane Helene.
We do not offer long-term rentals (longer than 14 days.) Each year we have families that return for their vacations, so we do not want to prevent them from being able to return each year by accepting extended reservations from other guests.
Notes: 1. We enjoy having families and groups of adult friends visit. We do not rent to groups of young adults or college students. No events may be held at our home. This is a private neighborhood and excessive noise needs to end by 11pm.
2. Check-in is at 4:00 pm /Check-out is 10:00 am If you need flexibility with these times, please let us know and we will accommodate requests whenever possible.

The host was very responsive when asked about amenities. The view was great, our company enjoyed seeing the many deer in the yard. The house was the perfect size and had plenty of seats for everyone. Its the prefect distance to downtown Blowing Rock.
Such a wonderful property! The pictures don’t do it justice. The rooms were perfect and the fireplace warmed up the house quickly! Very impressed and definitely plan on booking here again as many years as it’s available!
This was a pleasant stay with attentive owners. The property is in need of some care but nothing interfered with a pleasant experience.

Thank you for your nice review! We are pleased that you enjoyed your visit.
Yes, you are correct that our home needs some additional care--specifically the exterior of the home needs the window frames replaced and some painting done. These projects are scheduled to be done, but the work has not begun yet. The hurricane has caused many delays in our community. Fortunately, these things do not interfere with guests visiting and do not create any problems with the interior of the home or the outside amenities (hot tub, gas firepit, deck chairs)--- as noted in the review. We do look forward to having them completed as soon as possible though!
The beds were all comfortable and the rooms spacious. We had everything we needed and more. Seeing the deer and red fox wander the neighborhood was special. We enjoyed our girls vacation very much and look forward to returning
Our family stayed at the property for a quick getaway. Property is in a great location, was clean and easy to work with the owners. Gorgeous views and close to Boone and Blowing rock.
We have stayed here a couple of times and it is beautiful and comfortable. Has plenty of room with a great living / dining area and kitchen. Large master BR and the view is so pretty. We really enjoyed our visit. Working with the owner was great and we had no issues with anything.perfect stay!!! Highly recommended.
We used to book all sorts of different places for our annual trip but since we found this house several years ago it has become our go to place. Perfect combo of great views, kid and pet friendly, and close to both Boone and Blowing Rock.
The house was the perfect setup. Plenty of dishes, glassware....also they had all the little things you don't think of. Dish soap, hand soap, trash bags, aluminum foil. It felt like being invited to a friend's house who had everything you needed. They had plenty of towels and blankets. The gas logs were the best after spending the days on the slopes. We've always stayed in the banner elk area, but this house was so much better. We were in the mountains, but super close to stores and restaurants and we truly discovered the town of blowing rock being so close. This is a must stay for families.
Beautiful property and an easy drive to all the fun activities we planned for our trip. We had a wonderful time, loved sitting on the deck and the kids loved the hot tub.
We loved the hot tub and the big back yard.. The furniture was comfortable and so were the beds.

Thanks for your nice review! Having comfortable beds is very important to one's vacation, so we have replaced all of the mattresses in the house in the last 4 years. We also have certified bed-bug protective covers on all mattresses and box springs. We hope you will be able to return and visit with us again soon!
My family had a great stay. The house is very spacious and my kids loved the backyard. It’s in the perfect location as it’s in between BR and Boone. Karen was a great host and responded quickly to any questions I had. I will definitely be staying here again!
We had a lovely stay in Blowing Rock. The house is nicely situated close to Boone and Tweetsie Railroad. The house was clean, beds comfy, and very well stocked with plenty of towels, dishes, soap, trash bags, etc. The reclining sofa and loveseat was a major plus since one family member is disabled and needs to have legs propped up. It’s really hard to find rentals with reclining seating and plenty of living space. Karen, the host, was also very communicative. Would definitely recommend this house to friends.

About the host
Hosted by Karen Priest Ritter
While vacationing in Blowing Rock, my parents fell in love with the area and decided to begin looking for a home there. They found this home, but it needed a good bit of work. The mountain view was so wonderful though, they decided to purchase the home and begin renovations. They added an extra bedroom and full bath, put on the deck, bought a hot tub and added gas logs. They started on their landscaping projects soon thereafter and have continually added things to make the home more comfortable, while maintain its home-like feel. It was a second home for them and they decided to share it with guests who also enjoy a clean, comfortable home where they can relax and feel at home themselves, at an affordable cost.
Since that time, my parents have passed away, leaving the home in the care of our family. My husband and I take care of their home and enjoy working with the families who have come for many years, as well as welcoming the new guests who are visiting for the first time. Our home is child and dog friendly.
Many families come each year, making memories and spending time with their own families as they continue the tradition. Appalachian Ski Mt is in our neighborhood--just down the mountain from our back yard and we are a 5-minute drive from Tweetsie. Our home is located midway between Boone and Blowing Rock, so it convenient for Appalachian State University and all of the fun places in a nice college town as well as convenient for the unique restaurants and the scenic town of Blowing Rock.
My husband and I live in Greensboro, NC--a two-hour drive from our mountain home. Fortunately, we have excellent assistance with our incredible housekeeping team and handyman team and snow-clearing staff in the winter. We love having return guests and appreciate their suggestions on things they'd like us to add to our home for their next visit. Suggestions are encouraged and welcomed! We love our home and want you to love it as well. Karen Priest Ritter
Why they chose this property
We love our neighborhood because it is very beautiful with trees and flowers and has gorgeous mountain views. While you are here, you feel that you have really escaped from the noise and traffic, and busyness of life, yet you are 5 to 10 minutes away from all of the conveniences of modern life. There is a little neighborhood "library" with a bench that is a lovely place to sit and read or just commune with nature.
What makes this property unique
1. Gorgeous mountain view year-round! (just had the trees trimmed for an even better view) 2. Large paved parking area for 5 average-size cars 3. Hot tub, with large bath sheets for your use (in hamper by door to spa in large downstairs bedroom. 4.. Large deck with lots of chairs and side tables for enjoying mountain view 5. Large gas fire pit on the deck 6. Keypad entry for ease and security 7. Moderately firm mattresses for all king beds; less firm mattresses on double beds 8. Certified bedbug encasements for all mattresses and box springs 9. Private neighborhood--very quiet 10. Large back yard with swing set and slide and climbing rocks 11. 5-minute drive to Appalachian Ski Mountain ski slopes and ice-skating rink and Tweetsie Railroad 12. Located midway between Boone and Blowing Rock (10-minute drive each way) 13. Family-friendly home; pet friendly 14. 20+ years of experience in renting to families and groups of adult friends 15. Excellent reviews from our guests
Note: It is a 10-minute drive from Boone or Blowing Rock to our home. As you enter the neighborhood you will see the streets (about 1 mile's distance) are more narrow and somewhat curvy as you ascend the mountain. Two cars can pass if driving slowly. During wintery weather (snow and ice) the streets are scraped twice each day, but driving can be challenging. You may wish to consider 4-wheel drive based on your driving experience and comfort level. Our driveway is cleared during inclement weather.
