Great home for a group!
My father and stepmom are from Florida and we rented this lovely home for their mountain visit. The house was excellent and met all our needs even with a little snow storm surprise. The hot tub was a great way to spend time after a long snowshoe and the drive back into Breck for dinner at Hearthstone was easy and not a hard drive at all.
There are a lot of stairs to navigate into the home since it's on the second and third floors. With ice/snow and someone with limited mobility could have an issue, but it was no big deal for us! We just shoveled off a lane of snow and had easy access to our car.
Bonus: We saw Moose two days in a row near the Blue River Rd entrance!
A relaxing week
Really a super location in Blue River just off HWY 9 and away from the crowds in Breckenridge. Yet close enough anytime.
Nice layout which suited our family well. The bedrooms provided many options considering we had an exended family, grandchildren and dogs. Perhaps the one small hiccup was getting the TV/cable going the first time; but we figured it out.
Colorado Family Adventure
The property is located in the quiet town of Blue River and is conveniently located near hiking, restaurants and other activities. The cabin was clean and well equipped, it easily accommodated our family of six adults, two toddlers and two dogs. For the young ones I recommend the playground which is within walking distance of the cabin. We had a great time and recommend this venue for a family getaway.
Great place to get together as a family!
Great cabin! Plenty of room for our family to get together, play board games, get in the hot tub and enjoy Breckenridge!
Loud dogs underneath/absent host/disheveled property.
I've never had a VRBO situation this strange. We asked host for an early check-in, he said to check with him the day before our arrival to confirm. We checked in via email and phone, didn't hear back. He apologized profusely a few days later, saying he was on a boat. He also at that time mentioned "caretakers" living below the unit, which I hadn't realized. The supposed "caretakers" were the owners of two very large dogs (a st bernard and another large dog) which charged at me, barked constantly (until 1am one night) and seemed rarely let out and NEVER walked. The caretakers didn't have blinds over their windows, but sheets covering every. single. window! They played video games loudly until 1am, even after I told them I could hear EVERYTHING they were doing as I was sleeping in a room directly below theirs. In the home instructions, the host complained about cigarettes on the property. There were cigarettes in the drive and the home was smokey, I'm fairly confident it was his caretakers causing this issue, not his AirBNB guests. He also specifically gave instructions not to put out trash early because of bears. Guess who put out trash early, attracting bears? The "caretakers!" One of my guests received a package, the "caretakers" took it (!) opened it (!) and then they didn't open the door when we knocked. They finally gave it back. We had no response from the host when we complained about the dogs barking, or the package situation. We also overheard the caretakers complaining about being AirBNB renters to neighbors. But we were polite, respectful guests. The home itself was shabby - there were several lights out or unable to be turned on, or flickering. Someone wrote in the guest book that the toaster didn't work, but it worked fine for us. I'm glad I was traveling with several men — as a woman, I would not have felt comfortable staying in this home with the strange group of men and dogs staying below me. One night I heard the man below me baiting his dog, pushing him and asking him if he'd bite him very late at night... What do you even DO in that situation? Listening to a dog growling late at night? I did not sleep well any night. We will be asking for some sort of money back, as we paid several thousand dollars for what was essentially a crashpad.
Hi Kali, We were sorry to hear that you had such a negative experience with the caretakers in the unit below the cabin. As long-term tenants, the homeowner trusted them to look after the property while their short-term guests were in residence. After receiving your feedback and the feedback of other travelers, the homeowner let us know that they will no longer be renting to these tenants and that they have moved out. The homeowner has also started updating the cabin.
They have replaced all of the mattresses! In addition, they replaced all of the master bedroom furniture with new fun mountain cool pieces. They also removed the queen bed in the bunk bed room and replaced it with a double set of bunks – full over full combined with a twin over futon coach that can be converted to a bed. They have also replaced all of the bedding with flannel sheets and Eddie Bauer mountain style comforters – should make for a nice change. In addition to all new linens, they have replaced all the towels throughout.
They appreciate you letting them know what other maintenance concerns at the property require their attention, and we are confident that any issues will be thoroughly resolved for future guests. Thank you for letting us know about your stay, and we hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a fantastic travel experience the next time you book a vacation rental. Best, the Evolve Team
Nice house but in need of some love
Great location, loved that the house came with towels, bedding, and an amazingly stocked kitchen!! Plenty of room to sleep 7 adults, best bed in the house is upstairs, other rooms could use some new beds. Could use some improvements in the upstairs bathroom and the microwave is a little sketchy but the hot tub was really great! Pictures are winter so be prepared if you go in the summer, outside area could use some cleaning up. Short drive from downtown and very quiet neighborhood. Owners let us bring our dog which was really appreciated. Enjoyed a nice stay but, thought the pictures were a little deceiving.
Hi Kirsten, thank you so much for your review. The homeowners have asked us to pass along the following response:
"We have replaced all of the mattresses! In addition, we replaced all of the master bedroom furniture with new fun mountain cool pieces. We also removed the queen bed in the bunk bed room and replaced it with a double set of bunks – full over full combined with a twin over futon coach that can be converted to a bed – should make for a fun kid room! We have also replaced all of the bedding with flannel sheets and Eddie Bauer mountain style comforters – should make for a nice change. In addition to all new linens, we’ve replaced all towels throughout. Finally, while our tenants/caretakers are in charge of keeping an eye on the house, keeping the deck clear and making sure trash cans get to the street weekly, we have enough wood and the house doesn’t burn down or have no power etc, we also have a third party maintenance team – so if there are any issues we’d want them to go through us so we can ensure the right solution is deployed. We also have a third party maintain our hot tub, so those issues are handled separately through Rocky Mountain Hot Tub company & a separate plowing company for the driveway."

Since the town of Breckenridge pre-dates the ski area by 102 years, the place blissfully lacks a master-planned feel and has authentic, historic, small-town charm.
