About this property

4BR home in Yough Mtn Resort, sleeps 12. 15 min to Deep Creek Lake Resort

Laurel Grove is a large chalet situated on a beautiful mountain site with western exposures for perfect sunsets! Inside you will enjoy a warm and inviting mountain retreat with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, along with a sleeper sofa, to accommodate up to 12 guests. The outdoor space offers a large wrap-around deck, hot tub overlooking the mountains and valley, gas grill, backyard fire pit (fire wood provided) backed by lush forest, a basketball hoop, and ample parking for 4-5 vehicles. We love this place and think you will have an amazing visit too!
Inside, the main level features a large open living/dining/kitchen area, with a classic mountain woodstove (firewood provided) as the focal point. Beautiful views abound from everywhere in the space. The kitchen is fully stocked for elaborate meals or a quick breakfast with coffee. The hallway on the main level leads to a full bathroom, a bedroom with 1 full bed, and another bedroom with bunk beds (full and twin) and another twin mattress. A large loft master suite offers a king bed, sitting area, and private bathroom, with great morning light and views of the valley and mountains. The lower level of the house is a favorite space for fun and entertainment with a pool table, toys and board games, an enormous selection of new and classic DVDs, and access to the outdoor hot tub area. The lower level also has a bedroom with a full bed and direct access to a third bathroom, as well a laundry room with washer and dryer. Ceiling fans are located throughout the house and bedrooms. Even on warmer days the fans are often not needed if the screened windows or doors are opened because of the mountain location and regular breeze.
Many upgrades were installed in summer 2019, including a new gas grill, king mattress, and high-efficiency hot water tank. Laurel Grove offers satellite wifi, but the service in the mountains is slower, so please plan on typical speeds of 1-4 mbps (we are actively looking for faster service options). Also due to the location, there is no cable TV service available. Depending on weather, the antenna picks up channels sporadically (we are also actively exploring options to provide TV service). We also offer a free electric vehicle (EV) charging station for guests with battery electric vehicles (BEV) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). The charger is a Level 2 charger (32 AMP maximum current) with a common J1772 connector.
Our property is situated in gated land with 50+ miles of private gravel roads that offer excellent walking and biking through forests, streams, and scenic views, including access right to the Muddy Creek. The immediate surroundings include the waterfalls and swimming holes of Swallow Falls State Park (5 min.), the legendary Snaggy Mountain Area trails and natural rock mazes (2 min.) - a favorite of kids and adults alike, Herrington Manner State Park (5 min.), the Cranesville Natural Area (8 min.), and many state forest lands (1-10 min.). The 4,000 acre Deep Creek Lake and Deep Creek Lake State Park, as well as many other outdoor recreation areas, are less than a 15 min. drive. The Deep Creek Lake area also offers plenty of restaurants, bars, nightlife, and recreation outfitters. Throughout our property and the entire region, plant and wildlife are abundant, with frequent opportunities to view deer, bears, lizards/turtles, foxes, turkeys, beavers, an array of birds, and rare mountain plants including lady slippers, ferns, and pitcher plants; lucky guests may even spot tracks of the elusive mountain lions in the area.

The idyllic location of the Laurel Grove Chalet creates a wonderland of activities during every season, including hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, boating, water-skiing, tubing, and canoeing/kayaking in the summer. In the winter, enjoy skiing/snowboarding, snow tubing, sleigh rides, snowmobiling, snow-shoeing, and hiking. The fall foliage color is world-class (as is the white water rafting/kayaking), and the spring flowers are beautiful. Of course, all year round, enjoy the clear mountain skies, brilliant starry nights, and memorable camp fires!

We had a wonderful time staying at the property! We especially loved the beautiful view from the window, the jacuzzi, and the cozy fireplace. The house was very well equipped with everything we needed, and we felt completely comfortable throughout our stay.We did experience a small issue with the sink, but it was resolved quickly and efficiently by the maintenance staff. As a small suggestion, adding a door or some type of fence to the open space on the second floor could be a great improvement, especially for families with children. Overall, we had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay and would absolutely love to return by next availability.

Wonderful warm home!

Upon arrival we were so excited that the home was decorated for Christmas. This was our Christmas holiday with our adult children from various states. The pictures online do not do this mountain home justice. This home was so much better in person than the pictures on VRBO. We had a wonderful time & we will definitely return. It is very close to all deep creek amenities like 15 mins. Thank you to the owners for allowing us to enjoy your mountain/lake home. It also snowed for 2 days it was truly a winter wonderland. ❤️ The Fischer Family

Just okay, lots of issues

To start, the process of getting to the house was difficult and I highly recommend arriving during the day as instructed since there are no lights on the roads leading to the gate or inside of the community. After we finally found the house, two of the rooms on the first floor did not have any electricity. I called the 24hour help number and was told an electrician was coming the next day at around 11am. The electrician did not show up until 3:30PM and we were told that we could not plug phone chargers up in our rooms because it could trip the circuit and short the rooms again. The property management had attempted to call us, but there was no phone reception in the house and the WiFi was essentially useless. The refrigerator and freezer also did not work properly. All of our food spoiled in the first 3 days, the ice maker ran out of ice and never replenished, and the entire house ran out of hot water and we were forced to take cold showers for THREE DAYS. I also have to add that minorities in general should avoid this community as we were harassed by a neighbor to the point where she hit our vehicle with a tool as we were driving by.

You are correct in that it gets quite dark at night (we consider that a good thing) and we do try to advise guests to arrive during daylight hours when possible and to notify us if arriving after dark so we can try to better prepare. The directions have been very solid for many folks and we were surprised when you contacted us 'lost' to find out where you were; however we were happy to help get you to the home over the phone, There was a simple tripped GFI outlet that took out power to 2 of the bedrooms. When you called us (almost midnight) to advise on your day of arrival we asked you what time we could get maintenance there to address as we didn't want to inconvenience your sleep schedule - you advised "any time after 11" and we set that up. The PM maintenance department had other items on their plate (obviously no bedroom lights in the middle of the day was low priority, but important) and they did get there the day after your arrival, after your requested 11AM or later time, and make repairs - advising you how the GFI outlet works in the event it tripped again (this was the first time that had happened and we have learned ourselves that certain phone chargers, if not 'plugged in and unplugged correctly', can cause this breaker trip). The WIFI is the only service available to the rural area. It is adequate for checking emails, basic web surfing, etc but NOT adequate for streaming services and such. We try to make that clear and are sorry that you did not understand that limitation - which we have no ability to improve on currently. The fridge/freezer are operating just fine - they are tested on the day of guest arrival with a temperature gun. However introducing large amounts of 'warm' items to either - or blocking the air cooling ducts - can cause problems. They have both been tested after your departure and validated as cooling to the proper temperature. Sorry for your inconvenience but that is common with ALL fridges/freezers - cannot overstuff them with warm food - must introduce warm foods slowly to allow the cooling mechanisms to work properly. The hot water is a traditional 60 gallon tank - which is a common size for household usage. Obviously if guests take excessively long showers (as they may in a hotel with oversized hot water heaters) they can use their hot water supply up until it has time to re-heat. We were contacted by the community administrators and neighbors on your day of departure. We were advised that you were 'speeding and driving dangerously' for the neighbors and asked to have you slow down. We apologized to the community and the elderly neighbor. However it is always important to treat neighbors, any neighbors anywhere, with the respect they deserve. We were also advised that you were yelling at the neighbor who asked you to slow down for safety reasons (kids, elderly, animals, etc) and you got into a yelling match with them and the cops had to be called. WOW - so sorry for this experience. Finally, during your entire stay (after your first night of getting lost at close to midnight) - you NEVER contacted us by VRBO, you never contacted our PM who has maintenance staff on hand, and you never contacted our PM's after-hours emergency number to complain of fridge/freezer, no hot water, or anything else. Not cool to not allow us to try to help you during your vacation, irritate and endanger the neighbors, and not contact us during your stay - then to complain afterwards. Sorry that you didn't have a great experience as that is what we strive for! Please do treat neighbors the way you would want to be treated and don't hesitate to utilize the multiple resources provided to remedy any issues that you may have. Best to you in the future.

Private and cozy

We had a wonderful stay in your cabin on our family vacation. The home was just like the photos that were posted, very comfy and clean. We were really warm being it was August but the house, yard and hot tub were very nice. I would love to come back in the fall and winter. Very private❤️

Beautiful house but difficult entry process

This is a lovely house with great furnishings and a beautiful view. It is a great getaway. We loved walking the dogs around the woodsy neighborhood. The hot tub was wonderful. Our major complaint was gaining access to the house. We were there for Thanksgiving and had family and friends visiting on different days over the long weekend. Initially, we had to go about 20 minutes out of the way to retrieve a key fob to enter the neighborhood gate and on leaving, to return this after our stay. Then, any of our family/friends arriving later needed to be buzzed into the neighborhood gate. The set-up at the gate did not work for any of the 3 guest cars that tried it. They could not see the directory listings on the screen and couldn't call in. There is no landline phone at the house and our cell service for calls was spotty at best. We could get text messages and so the arriving guests could text us when all else failed to drive down to the gate (fortunately not too far) to let them in after they were unable to call in. The management company was communicative, but we were stressed by the entry problems. There has to be a better way! The house description says there is dining seating for 12. This would only be true if you were using the outdoor picnic table. For a family style dinner indoors, the table with two chairs plus benches seats 6 adults easily, and 8 thin adults at best. In this, the house description is very misleading. Fortunately, we did not have 12 people all at the same time and were able to adapt for our dinner seating. Nice collection of DVDs, great gaming selections, but no streaming service possible. We were OK with being disconnected for the holidays.

Wonderful getaway

This is a lovely, very well situated home, quiet, relaxing and clean. Navigation when arriving at night can be a little challenging but worth the effort. The view from the deck is better than a martini. The house is comfortable and well appointed, with plenty to do-- or not do. We had only two nights to enjoy the experience and would have been most content to have been able to extend our stay.

An absolutely gem of a find! So serene. This home is off by itself ( having little ones it’s perfect

What a great getaway and family vacation spot. After being apart from our daughter and son n law for a year and a half, we made some truly good memories here! Convenient to the beautiful Swan Falls State Park. And a 23 minute drive to Deep Creek State Park. Both worth the time for a splendid day and / or evening. This house is situated that we saw gorgeous sunsets! And then enjoyed the deck and/ or lawn for fires and yard games. Plenty of great games and movies. We will recommend this spot to friends! And if we get the chance to visit again, it will be Laurel Cove!

Nice house, needs improvement with property management company

The house is beautiful, clean, and spacious. The view is wonderful, and the location is nice and quiet. Kitchen was well stocked, beds comfy, and the game room downstairs was awesome. The hot tub worked great. Only issue was that there was no car charger, despite the pictures and description (the property management company had no idea there was one). The issue was with the property management company. They were super communicative - I needed to follow up and remind them several times before the visit. Going out of the way 30 mins in each direction to pickup the gate fob and drop it off was a major pain. They need to make it easier. The key code when entering was wrong, and the dishwasher was broken. All in all, it’s a shame that the property management company doesn’t serve this property well.

Great place. Listing doesn't do it justice

We loved our stay here. The ad and details may need to be updated because we expected it to be bare bones, but had a lot of things anyone would need on a trip. Our two complaints were that we had to drive over 30 minutes out of the way twice to pick up and drop off the key at the office. I would think at the very least, you could leave the key at the rental upon check out. And the directions for various things were very limited or nonexistent. The directions for the wood burning stove were "google it" and we also had a bit of difficulty operating the hot tub. But the rental management company was great with communication, they allowed us to check in early, and made sure we had propane for the grill per our request even though it was during the offseason. All in all, this place is fantastic and offers a lot to any variety of guests of all ages. We loved our stay in the winter and plan to try to stay again in the summer to check out more of what Deep Creek area has to offer!

Nice House, Not so nice management company

Cute cabin in a secluded location. Loved the games, movies, and hot tub. Our complaints are mainly with the property management company not the house itself. It was very inconvenient to have to drive 20+ min in the opposite direction to pick up/drop off the house key. Did not enjoy taking cold showers because we ran out of hot water, or the lack of air conditioning.

Family Get Away

The views from this house are amazing the decor is so cozy and inviting. My kids “want a house just like this”. We would like to return to see some snow! Abundant wildlife and a lot to do we shared a lot of laughs and made great memories as a family. The only bummer was the hot water heater that was supposed to be fixed by our second day there. That did put a wrench in some of our plans we had to work around showering and going to a separate place to shower. With multiple kids and a baby that was a bit of a pain. Otherwise we had a great time thanks for having us!
