About this property
Le Bleuet-A Gite in the Beautiful Normandy Countryside for Families and Couples
Our gites are located in a converted barn adjacent to our home; with a large lawned area to the front and a fully-enclosed garden to the rear there is plenty of room to relax in the Normandy sunshine. Each gite comfortably accommodates up to five guests in three bedrooms and can be booked together for larger parties (please see property reference 1783565 for our other gite)
Upstairs, bedroom one has a comfortable large double bed, with a good-sized wardrobe and a chest of drawers; bedroom two is similarly furnished with a double bed; bedroom three is a single room with a bedside table and a large rail for clothes. There is room for a travel cot in this room. All three rooms are bright and airy, and have small electric radiators for those chillier nights. There is a spacious shower room with toilet on this floor with ample storage for all your toiletries. Please note that this is the only bathroom in the gite.
Downstairs is a large open plan living-area with a corner sofa and three armchairs, a dining table seating five, and a well-appointed kitchen with a dishwasher and a washing-machine, a full size cooker, and an under-counter fridge with a small freezer compartment. There is a tv in the lounge area with the full-range of UK and French channels and a dvd player, as well as well-stocked bookcases with a good variety of novels to suit most tastes, and a selection of games.
At the rear of the property is a large garden; each gite having its own patio area with a garden table and chairs, and a barbecue. Judicious planting helps to screen the two patios for added privacy. The remainder of the garden is shared by each gite, and has a swing set for the under 12s, a large grassy area for outdoor games, and our popular above-ground pool with its own seating area. The pool is unheated, and whilst not large, it does provide an opportunity for a cooling dip in the summer months. The pool is available from June through to August and outside of those times at the owners' discretion. Use of the pool is strictly limited to those guests staying in our gites. The rear garden is fully enclosed, and whilst we request that all children are supervised in the pool and the pool area at all times, the garden itself is secure.
At the front of the property is a parking area for up to four cars in total and is used by guests in both gites and a further garden area. This is mainly laid to lawn but has a number of seating areas (a garden swing, and picnic benches). The lawn is ideal for badminton or even croquet, but this is a lovely spot in which to simply sit and while away the hours! Each gite has a small table and chairs outside the front door with potted plants; an ideal spot to catch the late evening sun.
The gites sit well back from the road, which is mostly used by the local farmers, making La Maison Sans Soucis a peaceful place to stay.
We consider our gites to be ideally located for exploring much of what Normandy has to offer. Popular tourist sites such as Mont St Michel, Bayeux, and the DDay Landing Beaches are no more than an hour's drive away. Closer to home, whilst our village has no local commerce, we are five minutes drive from Hambye and ten minutes from Percy, where you will find a range of shops and a small supermarket. Hambye has a wonderful bakery and we suggest you try one of their specialities, la demoiselle, for a yummy dessert. The bakery is currently closed on Monday and Tuesday. On these occasions you can purchase bread and pastries from the little supermarket in Hambye or drive into Percy where you will find three bakeries.
You will find a limited supply of tourist pamphlets in the gites and we strongly suggest a visit to any of our tourist offices, The staff at Villedieu-les-Poeles, Coutances, and St Lo are very helpful, with each town being an easy twenty drive from the gites.
Please note that guests aged over 18 are required to pay a local visitors tax (taxe de sejour) which is currently set at 85 cents per person per night.
If you are travelling in more than one car please can you let us know in advance so that we can arrange for additional parking

About the host
Hosted by Anne-Marie Piper
For a number of years David and I have dreamed of owning a property in France, then in 2011 our dream became a reality. I moved here in the summer of 2012 on my own whilst David continued working in the UK as an electrician. Finally, David moved here to join me in March 2014. Our love affair with France continued and in May 2015 we were married in a lovely ceremony at the Mairie followed by a reception in our garden surrounded by family and friends. Since then we have become involved with our village Comite de Salle de Fetes and help to organise our annual Apero Concert and Mechoui. France has become our home and we look forward to sharing our little corner with you.
Why they chose this property
Our search for a home in France began in 2008 in the Aude region. We both love the area around Carcassonne and were looking for a holiday home that could become a permament home once we retired. The more we searched the more we realised that what we wanted was to live in France now but we quickly realised that would not be possible in the Aude. We thought long and hard about where we could put down roots and decided that Normandy with its ease of access to the UK would be ideal. I cannot remember how many properties we looked at, but we had decided that we would come over for one last weekend to check out a property we had seen on a previous visit and hopefully make an offer. Our estate agent suggested we look at one more place, so we saw the first house in the morning and arranged to see the second property in the afternoon. We made the decision that unless the final place was amazing we would offer on the first. Well, we checked out the first place, decided it could work for us but that we would wait before making an offer. We cheekily drove through Le Guislain and found what we thought was the second house before our official visit in the afternoon. I remember looking down the drive and thinking 'if this is it tI want it'! To cut a long story short...it was the one. We made an offer that evening, which was accepted the following day. Six weeks later the house was ours. Why did we choose this one? The gites were already up and running although they did need some work to smarten them up. The house needed more work (and still needs it), but we fell in love wth the fireplaces. Most importantly, it felt right and it felt like home.
