About the host
Hosted by June Stoute
I'm an islander - born and raised in Barbados. My father's family have been in Barbados since the 17th century and my mother's family have been in the Caribbean since the 19th century with roots that go back to Maderia. I'm a mother, grandmother, wife and dog owner. Some would say the dogs should be listed first. I'm inquisitive and like learning about just almost anything. I feel blessed that with current technology I can be an islander without being insular.
Why they chose this property
Port St. Charles Mariana is a well planned and built residential development. I named our apartment 'Bluescape' because that is what I see as I enter the living room - the blue lagoon beyond and the sky. Situated on the island's western coast we enjoy calm sea that is great for swimming. The gardens are beautifully maintained and all the homes are waterfront - either beach front or on the lagoon. One thought is that we may live there when we downsize and no longer wish to maintain a home and garden ourselves. It has all the amenities needed on site - a gym; beauty salon; area to walk, a dock, restaurant and helipad (don't think I'll use that other that a lookout).
What makes this property unique
Dawn and dusk are the best part of a day. Sitting on the patio it is cool and quiet; I listen to the birdsong and often hear the the splash of a fish in the lagoon.
There is a mixture of 'development' and rural Barbados is the surrounding area. A fishing village is to the north and to the south is Speightstown, a.k.a. 'Little Bristol'. There used to be a whaling station there. Today you will find a diverse offering of restaurants, two modest supermarkets and sidewalk vendors whose trays a full of fruit, vegetables and ground provisions.
