A Mid-Century Chronicle: Finding Solace in a Retro Sanctuary

In the sun-bleached folds of west-central Florida — not quite hidden, not entirely exposed — lies a home that tells a story. It is not a hotel, and certainly not a resort. It is something rarer: a portal. A return. A retreat. A place where travelers unspool from the tension of elsewhere and enter a space that feels less like arrival and more like rediscovery.

This is not a house that screams for your attention; it draws you in slowly. With grace. With nostalgia. With the quiet confidence of a bygone era lovingly preserved in shades of blue, chrome, and polished tile.

Welcome to Beacon Square in Holiday, FL — your sunlit, stylized escape.

First Impressions: Where Time Stretches

You pull in past xeriscaped stone and tidy palms. The facade — unfussy, inviting — sets the tone. This home doesn't rely on glitz. Its charm lives in the mid-century soul stitched into every corner, from the diner chairs to the starburst wall decals that twinkle like echoes of Eisenhower-era optimism.

Open the front door and enter a space suspended between the practicality of the present and the romance of the past. The living room, anchored by a mounted 65" Roku Smart TV, pulses with soft Florida light filtering through hurricane-resistant panes. The sofa, angled just so, invites the weary traveler to put up their feet, thumb through a novel, or stream a film noir classic. And if you listen closely — not with your ears, but with your memory — you might hear the clink of highballs and laughter from another time.

The furnishings are not extravagant — they are exact. Purposeful. Comfort curated for travelers with taste.

The Kitchen: Chrome, Checkers, and Coffee Dreams

The heart of the house beats from a cheerful, retro-style kitchen, where robin’s-egg cabinets and checkered floors meet culinary function. This is where you lean over the breakfast counter with a mug of fresh coffee in hand, steam curling like an invitation to linger. You might cook here — you’ll certainly want to. With a full-size range, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, and every utensil from whisk to wine opener, you’re prepared for pancakes or prosecco.

There’s a diner-style table for four, perfect for plotting the day’s adventure or unwinding with a deck of cards as the cicadas begin their evening chorus.

The Sun-room: A Place to Work or Dream

Head toward the back and you’ll find the sun-room — a workspace, but not the sterile kind. Here, the desk doesn’t feel like obligation, but possibility. Natural light dances over a bistro table with notepads at the ready. Maybe you’ll work here. Maybe you’ll write a postcard you’ve been meaning to send. Or maybe you’ll just sit, pen in hand, letting the quiet fill the margins.

The Bedrooms: Private Chambers of Quiet Luxury

Each bedroom feels like a gentle embrace — not ostentatious, but exactingly appointed.

• Bedroom One offers a King-sized gel memory foam mattress, cloaked in luxurious linens and room-darkening shades that ensure true rest. The Smart Roku TV, mounted across from the bed, whispers of late-night dramas and lazy morning cartoons. There’s a charging station in every lamp — useful, yes, but also subtly thoughtful.
• Bedroom Two features a Queen bed just as sumptuous, with the same care taken to ensure privacy, comfort, and tech accessibility.

Together, the rooms offer sleep as it was meant to be: quiet, cool, undisturbed.

The Bath: Where Retro Meets Revival

The single bathroom — adorned with a walk-in shower and spa-level towels — continues the home’s balancing act between style and substance. Complimentary Bergman Kelly shampoo, conditioner, and body wash line the shelf. Beach towels are rolled and ready. Everything you need, exactly where you hoped it would be.

Outside: A Patio for Dawn and Dusk

Step out back and exhale. The patio, fenced and private, offers Adirondack chairs positioned for the rising sun and the setting day. You could sip here, talk here, think here — and no one would disturb you. The solar lighting glows like fireflies, softening the edges of the evening. It’s a place not just to sit, but to stay.

For the Practical Traveler: All the Modern Conveniences

• 3 Roku Smart TVs, one in each bedroom and the living room
• Washer and dryer located in the garage — essentials for longer stays
• Iron and board, stored discreetly
• Wi-Fi with business-class speeds for streaming and Zoom calls
• Garage parking for one vehicle + one additional spot in the driveway (6'3.5" clearance)
• No pets, no smoke, no parties — a refuge for the respectful traveler

The Neighborhood: Tucked Away, Yet Near It All

Despite its serene stillness, this home is a gateway to the Gulf coast’s best-kept secrets:

• Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks – 10 mins
• Anclote River Park – 10 mins
• Fred Howard Park & Beach – 23 mins
• Honeymoon Island State Park – 30 mins
• Clearwater Beach – 48 mins
• Cypress Run Golf Club – 15 mins
• Winn-Dixie Grocery – 4 mins
• Tampa International Airport – 42 mins

Whether your journey involves beaches and bistros, paddle-boards or pastries, this location puts the very best of Florida’s Gulf Coast within reach — without ever feeling rushed.

Immaculate Standards, Uncompromising Cleanliness

In today’s world, hygiene is not an afterthought — it’s a promise.
This home adheres to CDC-aligned cleaning protocols, with attention paid to every switch, handle, remote, and faucet. It is not just clean. It is cared for. The host — mindful of allergies — keeps this property strictly pet-free, making it ideal for sensitive travelers.

What You Won’t Find Here (And Why That’s a Good Thing)

• No clutter.
• No chaos.
• No crowds.

You won’t find loud neighbors, plastic hotel key cards, or forced socialization. What you will find is a space where the day begins when you say it does, and ends when the stars have had their say.

Before You Arrive

Access is simple. You’ll receive a lock-box code prior to check-in, along with a warm welcome and clear instructions. You are not renting a room — you’re borrowing a home, and everything in it has been chosen with you in mind.

Great Stay!

Robert's King Bed & Queen Luxury Retro worked out very well for our needs. It was clean, quiet, spacious, well-appointed, and located well for our plans. Robert was very responsive with communications and had a manual for guests that was quite thorough regarding everything in the house. We also took advantage of his dining recommendations and he was spot on. We would stay here again.

Excellent stay in Holiday

Terrible property, worse customer service from host.

Arrived shortly after midnight. Did a brief walk through and noticed a dirty floor in the kitchen. The next morning when we went to take a shower, we found pubic hair all over the shower floor and a giant spider web and spider dead in the corner window of the shower.By the second night, we found two cockroaches on the back patio. By the next morning, a large dead cockroach was laying on the back patio. I immediately reached out to the host who tells me that since I didn't notify him of the problems within 4 hours of my arrival, and I didn't request extermination within that timeframe then there was nothing he was going to do about it. He indicated that they recently had an exterminator out to handle a "local" infestation, but never notified potential renters of the recent infestation. After that, we refused to use the back patio. By the third day, the toilet would not flush unless you added water to toilet and tank. Again, I reached out to the host who thanked me for my report of the problem and dismissed me all together. This host is only trying to make a quick buck off a crappy property.

Great property and great location.

The house was very clean and very well furnished. Lots of kitchen dishes, utensils, bowls, etc. The garage was an added bonus. We did over 90 miles of bike riding while we were there and we were centrally located to a lot of great trails. Very open communication with the owner with quick responses to our questions. We had a great stay!!

Nice and clean crash pad when visiting nearby relatives

Robert keeps a modern and clean house, with no unpleasant surprises. This was perfect place so we didn't have to stay at elderly relatives that lived nearby, and much much better than staying at any nearby hotels. A great value and was very convenient location for us. This is not a fancy Florida house with a swimming pool to hang out in -- but served its purpose perfectly -- for a great price compared to a hotel, and much more room than if you stay in a hotel. Robert is super responsive for any requests, although everything went as smooth as can be. Definitely recommend if you want a home base while hitting beaches or visiting relatives.

The best stay we've ever had

We loved the retro remodel. A throw back to our younger days. The house is well kept, clean, organized, we'll stocked, and had perfect AC. It's located in a good neighborhood near town (grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, etc.) Centrally located within a few miles of many tourist areas. You can park in the garage if you want. This is where we will staywhen we return.

Weekend getaway

We stayed in this rental over a long weekend in order to visit local family. Not only was this home within budget but extremely comfortable, welcoming, and close to beaches , dining, and grocery stores . The home has everything we needed to cook in home , coffee for breakfast , and (the best part) a great sleep in cozy bed and comfy pillows. My finance and my 7 year old daughter were both content with the tv channel selections and everyone felt right at home. Nice big shower and everything super clean.the garage was a great addition for our rental car and made us feel even more secure. We will definitely be back ! 10/10 experience

Cute house!

Very easy to get to, and neighborhood seemed nice, although several people were speeding down the street. Robert was a great host, and communication was top-notch. The beds were so comfy and everything we needed was in the kitchen. Kind of wished there were board games or some sort of activities in the backyard. Overall, for the price and location, this cute little house definitely beat staying in a hotel, and I would stay again!!

About the host

Hosted by Robert

Host profile image
I am originally from the Midwest. I like to travel: I love London, traversing the Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park, or, recreating the “On the Road” trip, Jack Kerouac’s epic journey.

A spattering of my favorite reads: In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Candide by Voltaire, Beloved by Toni Morrison, Portnoy's Complaint by Philip Roth, and American Sphinx by Joseph Ellis.

I do volunteer work. Argentine tango dancing is one of my hobbies. I cook Italian. Example: Pasta with Winter Squash and Tomatoes, Pasta with Prosciutto and Lettuce, and Baked Mostaccioli. Here are few of my favorite architects: Richard Neutra, Eero Saarinen, Arne Jacobsen, Carl Graffunder, and Alvar Aalto.

I look forward to hosting travelers. I strive to create a “wow” factor, going above and beyond expectations, addressing any guest input quickly, and delivering an excellent stay experience at a reasonable price…exactly what I want when I am a guest.

Why they chose this property

This property is very close to beaches, shopping, restaurants, and many activities while still being offered to travelers an extremely affordable price, far less than any comparable hotel accommodations.

What makes this property unique

A large capacity washer and dryer is a must-have for traveling families. For those who enjoy movies: the living room features a 65” Roku TV. For those who need to get some work done or enjoy gaming: there is a powerful computer work station.
