This lovely studio is set in a garden among olive trees, close to but separate from the main house. The studio has two private entrances. Enjoy your personal patio, gas grill, two outdoor eating areas and outdoor shower. I rent the 340 sq ft studio by the month to one person only in the fall and spring, all year except June, July and August. The newly built kitchen is ideal to prepare simple meals, complete with a cook top, sink, refrigerator, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, and electric kettle and pantry. Enjoy your meals inside or outdoors. Relax indoors on a stylish sofa facing a smart TV with Netflix streaming included. Sleep all night in comfort on a new queen mattress in a quiet room, cooled by a ceiling fan as well as a/c and heat. Your newly built ensuite half bathroom is spacious and modern, with a large vanity and plenty of storage for your toiletries (hair dryer is included). A newly built closet offers plenty of hanging space and shelves for your clothes as well as space for two suitcases. The spacious and private outdoor hot water shower is a few steps away within your personal garden area. If you take a morning shower, the Santa Barbara's golden sunshine will warm the entire space and, in the winter, a wall hung heater will keep you toasty warm. The beach-themed outdoor shower provides shampoo, conditioner and body soap as well as a dressing area and hooks for your towel and clothes. At this point, there is no laundry available for the studio guests, but a laundromat is only a block away. The owner has a motion-activated security camera installed on the exterior, pointing toward the driveway. If you want to book, please send me background information about yourself, including your interest in coming to Santa Barbara, your hobbies, and expected activities while here.

I stayed in this apartment for 2 months and thought it was adorable. Kathryn the owner is great. Very friendly and very accommodating whenever I needed something. I was apprehensive about the outdoor shower, however I actually liked it! The weather is beautiful in California, so it’s actually quite nice It’s built really well, and is very secluded. Plus, Kathryn provides a very cozy robe! I felt like I was in a cool little oasis on vacation. The property is very clean and well manicured too. I saw Kathryn outside at times cleaning my seating area outside, which is lovely! There is also a grill that she allowed me to use, which is nice when you don’t have a full kitchen. However, there is plenty of amenities in the kitchen and the hot plate works great. There is a toaster/oven which was more than enough, as well as everything you need for a very comfortable and cozy stay! It’s small of course, but well worth it if you’re looking for a cozy well equipped retreat/getaway in Santa Barbara that is secluded enough, very quiet, but almost right in the heart of downtown! I highly recommend staying at this VRBO apartment!

Thanks, Meredith. I'm so glad it worked out for you. Since you left I've kept working at improving the studio. It's changed a lot with a stove top and pantry in the kitchen, which is now separated from the living space. Also, you convinced me I needed to add a TV, something that was even more critical during Covid!
The whole experience was excellent. Kate is friendly, very responsive and accommodating, and a pleasure to chat with. The unit itself feels welcoming and has everything that you need. The bed and couch are very comfortable and the space is nicely decorated. The outdoor shower is wonderful. Can’t beat the location, a short walk to downtown. I highly recommend!

Thanks for staying, Kristyn. You were a pleasure to have as a guest—mature, pleasant, clean and tidy. You are welcome to return anytime the studio comes available.

I'm a writer and writing teacher and love to spend time at Santa Barbara's beaches. I also travel as much as possible, usually to Italy where I also teach each year. I moved to Santa Barbara in 2016 and have devoted myself to improving my property, inside and out. I've been lucky attracting travelers who appreciate and respect the ambiance I've created.
Why they chose this property
My Garden Studio is well located near downtown Santa Barbara-- just around the corner from McConnells famous ice cream and the great coffee at the Daily Grind, a local favorite. Stroll just six blocks to discover interesting shops on State Street, the theatre district and Funk Zone farther on where you can enjoy a rich variety of restaurants and wineries (See my guide in the Studio). A three-mile drive will take you to Arroyo Burro Beach and the Boat House, a popular restaurant and lively bar and one of the few places on California's coast where you can dine with beautiful views of the Pacific and, in Santa Barbara, the Channel Islands as well.
What makes this property unique
I chose my home because of its historic features and interior charm despite its age--soon to be 100 years old! I hope you enjoy the studio's antiques-filled space, unique garden, a spacious and very private outdoor shower, as well as a Weber grill, beach chairs, boogie boards and beach umbrellas.
