Welcome to New River Lure!

About 20 miles to Boone, less than 8 miles to West Jefferson, and less than 9 miles to Jefferson, this cabin is convenient to many fun things to do in the High Country. Located only a few miles off Highway 421, guests from Charlotte, Raleigh, or other areas east can get to this cabin faster than most other High Country destinations.
There are numerous areas nearby to drop off your rafts and friends, take a vehicle to a pick-up spot a few miles away, and spend an afternoon rafting down the New River. Nearby river guide services will get you geared up for tubing, kayaking, or rafting. Many guided fly-fishing and reel-fishing options exist for native and released trout, small-mouth bass, and other native sport fish.
Also nearby are Appalachian Ski Mountain (30 miles), Sugar Mountain Ski Resort (40 miles), and Beech Mountain Ski Resort (47 miles) for snow skiing and snowboarding, ice skating, and snow tubing. Hawksnest is a snowtubing park on Seven Devils, less than 40 miles away. Hawksnest also does zipline tours during warmer months. Tweetsie Railroad theme park is about 28 miles away. Grandfather Mountain is only about 38 miles away. Blowing Rock and Valle Crucis are both around 30 miles from the cabin. Many fun activities are in and near Jefferson and south towards Wilkesboro. Great walking and hiking trails exist in the New River Acres neighborhood.
The cabin itself is a charmer! It has five sleeping areas, 4 with beds and one with a sleeper sofa. The main level boasts vaulted tongue-in-groove ceilings, wood walls and floors, and large windows to let in the sunlight. The great room has a stone, floor-to-ceiling fireplace with gas logs, an HDTV, and comfy leather furniture. The kitchen is fully equipped, and a dining table seats six. Also on the main level are two queen bedrooms with HDTVs and a full bathroom in the hallway with a tub and shower combo.
Upstairs features a loft-style master suite with a king-size bed, an HD Smart TV, a desk for quiet work, and an ensuite bathroom with a shower. Downstairs is a family room with a game room and a den. The den serves as a media area with comfy, casual furniture, a large HDTV with a DVD player, and a queen-size sleeper sofa for extra sleeping options. The game room has an eight-foot slate pool table with a ping pong topper. The family room is surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows looking at the wooded property and the New River. A sleeping area on the lower level has two twin beds and a full bathroom with a shower.
The main level deck is wrap-around and partly covered but mostly open-air, with Adirondack-style chairs and gliders and a gas grill. The lower deck is covered and features a hot tub and a porch swing. The decks and porches have wooded privacy, and you can look down at the New River as it meanders through the mountains!
New River Lure has central heating and air conditioning, a washer and dryer, HD Smart TVs throughout, digital cable programming, and WiFi internet. You have so much to enjoy out and about in the nearby high country, but on rainy or lazy days, there is plenty to enjoy and keep you entertained at the New River Lure.

You can tell the owner takes pride in their property as everything is clean, well taken care of and properly maintained. The jacuzzi tub is clean and relaxing. Overall I would highly recommend this property and based on how well it is taken care of, if they own more listings I would not hesitate one second to rent. Will Definitely Return. A well appreciated vacation and a huge THANK YOU to the owners.

Thats so awesome to hear! Thank you for your business and allowing us to provide a backdrop for what sounds like a great time. Take care and we hope a revisit is in the works.
My son's wedding was held at a nearby venue so this property was a perfect setting and sizs for our extended family. The rooms were clean the beds and rooms comfortable and I can't say enough about the very well kept hot tub. The pool table and puzzles provided extra fun activities. We watched college football as television and wifi were also fast and reliable. I would seek this property out again for future getaways. Our pups were very happy, as well! Thank you!

Thank you so much for choosing and staying in our home. We are thrilled that you appeared to have enjoyed your stay and that the home met your vacation needs. We look forward to welcoming you back again to our home. Safe travels!
The cabin was fantastic. The walk to the river was a bit steep, but was not so daunting it kept me from walking down there multiple times each day. The driveway was a bit steep, but once again, I've been on worse while staying in the mountains. The cabin was well furnished. The bed was comfortable. We would not hesitate to stay there again.

Thanks for sharing. Its such a pleasure when a guest enjoys the home and has a great stay. We hope to see you again soon.
This is our second stay at this cabin for a girls weekend for 4. It was wonderfully private, and with 4 bedrooms, perfect for us. The kitchen was well stocked and the house well appointed. We all found the beds comfortable too. The porch has a beautiful wooded view down to the river and comfortable Adirondacks....perfect for morning coffee. Easy hike to the river. Pool table, fireplace, and big farmhouse table for group eating and games...met all our need. Also, easy trek into West Jefferson where there is a nice downtown, great winery and good eats.

Hi William, we are sorry that evidenced by the tone of your review you were not excited by your stay. We gather you felt the fees were too high. Fees are transparent and listed prior to you booking, did you just happen to miss those? We truly regret that you feel your stay was anything less than perfect.

Felt Like False Advertising…
We booked this property back in November 2021 for our family vacation July 2022. On the website it looked perfect: River access, up in the mountains, enough space for everyone to sleep comfortably. In person there were a number of issues that could have been dealt with better by the property management company. The “easy river access” they advertise is actually a pretty steep hike down what looks like a drainage ditch to the edge of the river which has a private property marked on the right-hand side (which we were warned about ahead of time) and a new sign from a cabin up the road stating the river access is private and only for the residents of that cabin (which we were not warned about). The cabin rental company claimed they didn’t know anything about it but said it should be fine for us to use the river area anyway, but we decided to pass on it since we didn’t want to start trouble with the other cabin owners. The cabin we rented also had pretty bad water pressure to the point that you could hardly even wash dishes by hand, let alone shower unless all the other taps/shower heads in the cabin were turned off. We also had to call the cabin rental company to get extra linens for the pull-out couch they advertise since apparently they had failed to communicate to the housekeeping agency they use that there was a pull-out couch at all and a family member had to go without for a couple nights. The listing also warns about needing 4-wheel or all-wheel drive in the winter due to the steepness of the driveway, but even in the middle of summer I’d advise having it. The driveway was a nightmare to get in and out of in an all-wheel drive Subaru, and we had a family member have to park his sedan near the top of the driveway and walk the rest of the way down to make sure he could get out okay. And for an added bit of excitement, at the very end of our trip we could hear what sounded like squirrels in the walls starting the evening before we checked out, though a family member said they had heard the sounds the first night into our stay. Overall, not totally impressed with this cabin, but I put that blame on the cabin company the rental is managed through, since everything but the initial booking on Vrbo in November was done through them.

Olivia we do regret that you had any issues with the access to the river. However its plainly described in the guest information book (blue notebook) in the home that the shared access is to the left as you approach the river. Cross over the wooden bridge. The private property signs should be to the right. There is a map explaining this in the blue notebook in the cabin. We are in the mountains and trails that are not park service controlled can sometimes to folks not familiar with mountainous terrain be daunting. This also applies to driving, yours is the first complaint regarding the driveway and this includes dozens if not more stays in all seasons. We could not find where any water pressure issues were reported, had we known we would have attempted to rectify. In all of our homes linens for pullouts and trundles are kept in the nearest cabinet or dresser to the bed/pullout. We do apologize if a set was not available but we do see where we ran a set out once we knew it was missing. We do regret that you found your stay anything less than excellent. New River Lure is a fantastic home that has provided the backdrop for many cherished memories to countless families. As always we take any critique from a guest and strive for improvement.
Gorgeous property, very well equipped, spacious inside and so comfortable! We enjoyed the pool table, gas fireplace, kitchen and deck. So relaxing and close to beautiful West Jefferson for a fun excursion. Next time we’ll test out the hot tub and River..definitely recommend it and we’ll be back!

Thanks so much for your feedback! Its our hope that you will visit us again soon.
The cabin was clean and cozy, and just as advertised, the drive was a steep one but not any problems at all getting in or out. I appreciate being able to bring along my fur baby who enjoyed a mini vacay as well. We were not able to tube as planned due to cooler temps and rain though we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and West Jefferson. The cabin is conveniently located within a few miles to anything you could possibly need for your stay. West Jefferson offered great food, drinks and shopping as well!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share. We welcome all feedback and use each review as a tool to deliver the very best vacation rental experience possible. Our staff is thrilled to hear that the home met or exceeded your expectations and we hope for a revisit sooner rather than later.
The cabin was great. Plenty of room and it was very clean. The location is pretty private. It is on a hill, so getting to the river is chore. The hike is rough coming back because the trail is pretty uneven and a steep incline. Access to the river is limited. There is a 3-5 ft drop to the river, which is overgrown with tall weeds. If you're looking to trout fish you will have more luck at Elk Shoals Park. The river is beautiful and we saw several large trout.

Thats fantastic! Appreciate you sharing and we hope that a revisit is in the works.
The house was perfect - used the pool table and whirlpool. The weather was very rainy so we didn't get to enjoy the porch or hike much unfortunately. The driveway was steep and parking would have been challenging with multiple vehicles but it held up to all of the rain! Close enough to Boone and West Jefferson so no need to cook if you don't want to :) Bed was comfortable so we got good rest. Thanks for hosting and allowing us to bring our dog!
The cabin is in a great location for River access yet close enough to downtown West Jefferson! I was a bit let down that the cabin was not as clean as expected seeing as they have a cleaning service. There were so many dead ants on the lower level, we were not able to enjoy that room which is where the pool table and oversized couch is. Other than that, the house served its purpose but not sure that I would rent there again.
We drove 10 hours from Ohio to stay at the New River Lure. And overall it was worth it we had a wonderful time and will definitely return.

Comfortable
This cabin was very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and probably would return. There were a few things which could have made it better. One of the beds did not have clean bedding upon arrival. Also, there are some large cobwebs and vacuuming under tables/furniture could be better. Lastly, some hooks in the loft bathroom would be nice to hang towels etc. but overall it was nice, relaxing, and spacious.

New River Lure Review
Great house, great location. Very nice experience with Carolina Cabin Rentals. My one suggestion is that the gas fireplace in the house doesn't really put out any heat and seems to operate very low.
The property was nice, supplied fairly well. Our AWD handled the driveway fine, but can see where others might be intimidated. We saw squirrels and deer and it was nice walk down the road/path to the river.
Got to go to the Dr tomorrow- I checked out 11/4. I have bed bugs- I thought it was ticks- but found it ODD- as I never went outside the property. This is a serious health hazard! I have contacted our attorneys. This is unacceptable!!! 💯💯💯. Being in the travel business for 33yrs- this is Unacceptable!!!!

Darlene every effort was made to contact you with no success. We contacted a nationally known Pest Control Company to inspect the property and no bedbugs were found in the home. Our quality control teams as well as our cleaning staff inspected prior to your stay and after your stay and no evidence of bedbugs was found. We are a highly respected vacation rental company with over 350 homes and host thousands of reservations annually. Each of our guests comfort and safety is paramount to us. If any type of incident occurs we prioritize working with that guest in whatever ways are needed, but if a guest refuses to reply to our overtures, it restricts our options. We repeatedly reached out for pictures as well as documentation from your doctor and you never replied to our calls nor emails. We are very sorry you experienced something, it obviously was traumatizing to you. Perhaps being in the travel business as you say you may have contacted something in that line of work. Its our sincerest hope that you gain closure to what is obviously a stressful event for you.

The cabin was very comfortable, clean and well stocked dishes, towels etc. The 3 bathrooms made it very covenient for 8 people. The view of the river 😍 We spent time on river fishing and had a camp fire. We also went Christmas shopping. LOVED West Jefferson. Location was great we also did some hiking. I Guess you could say we give New River Lure thumbs up. We would love to return in warmer weather to float the river. To the owner thanks for having us.

There was a cigarette butt on the ledge of the main deck. The hot tub didn't work and the couch had lots of crumbs and dog hair under the cushions.

Relaxing getaway
We celebrated our anniversary here. Beautiful cabin with lots of space and all we needed for “staying in” entertainment during this pandemic, but still close enough to downtown for groceries or a special coffee and shopping, etc. Great windows for natural lighting, beautiful surrounds, peaceful atmosphere. Perfect for a family!!

Nice and Secluded
We came to New River Lure to get away from the worries of the world. Once we arrived, we didn't leave. We didn't see another human being. The house was great and had all the comforts of home. While the weather was rainy, it didn't matter. We had a great time.

Awesome to hear! We look forward to having you back soon.
Excellent house layout. Driveway was steep and the trail to the river was difficult and not maintained. Great swimming hole. Don't plan on using the sofa bed on the lower level - very old and uncomfortable. All the other beds were very comfortable! Enjoyed our stay.
