This is a spacious studio apartment located on the lower section of the property with its own balcony area. You'll find that you're out of sight and out of the way of anyone bothering you.

In 2004 this property was voted #1 for beautification and featured on a local TV channel.

We are located on the east end of St Thomas, near Red Hook in an area called Nazareth (like in the bible). The neighborhood is professional middle class, mostly quiet. Older community. Classic caribbean homesteads.

You get what you pay for

Communication with host was good when I expressed interest, from booking and forward communication was not great. No response from within the app, no arrival or checkout instructions, i called her for help when the bedroom door locked behind us with no key to get back in and she got one of the neighbors to shimmy the lock and let us in but was rude with us about needing help. Cleanliness on arrival was okay, does not sleep 4 as advertised, stove and oven do not work at all, wifi was not working either. Best thing about this place was the convenient location with proximity to Red Hook and the ferry. This listing is a place to sleep, shower, and refrigerate your food/drinks. it'll get the job done but don't expect much.

Red Hook USVI

When I checked-in the water in the first unit had a bad oder and the A/C didn’t cool the room well. The whole property uses the same cistern but, other units didn’t have the bad oder. The host said this wasn’t true and that I just wanted out of the contract to move to a cheaper property, which was not true. We really just wanted to go to something in better condition. The owner let me look at a second unit, it was better and didn’t have the oder problem. We moved to this unit. We were even told by Ophelia that she didn’t want to hear complaints. The property is located near the top of a hill and a little challenging walking to the store and Red Hook. Taxi’s are $5-6 a person per trip. I enjoy walking but, the roads aren’t made for safety of pedestrians. This BNB could use some updates and repairs. The microwave oven turntable no longer turns. The windows use a crank to close but the cranks don’t function well and windows don’t close up tightly. A range hood over the stove would be a nice addition. This is the worst BNB experience I have had to date and I’ve been traveling for the last 8 months.

DISAPPOINTING ON MANY LEVELS

So, Ophelia-the owner may live in the main residence but she is 76 and does not take care of the property. Her son Antonio is actually the one u deal with but u don't know that until u have problems. When I got there the place had not been cleaned so I actually talked to Ophelia, got a broom and mop and swept/mopped the floors myself. She was nice and apologized. The air conditioning unit is too small for the apt. and barely cools the room down. The fridge kept everything luke cool and barely works & had to keep things in freezer just to keep it cold. The stove u see in the pic doesn't work and they give u an electric hot plate to cook on. The tv doesn't have a remote so u have to turn the tv on and adjust the volume by hand and the one remote there is for the cable box to switch channels & u only have about 5 channels. The ceiling fan in the pic works but the lights do not. The shower barely has hot water or pressure. The lamp between the beds in the pic does not work & broken. The liquid dish soap was actually a little soap and the rest water. After a long day of travel and trying to settle in at midnight and finding all this stuff wrong I went to Ophelia knocked on her door and said that I was unhappy and we needed to fix the issues or move me. She agreed that she would move me in the morning to a different unit. Thirty minutes later I get an email from her son antonio saying how dare I go to his mom that late and complain. He provided his phone number in the email and I called him immediately at 12:30 at night to straighten things out. He could have cared less, tried to talk over me, told me I was the problem and then told me he would have someone there that day to fix the issues. I stayed at the apt. all day waiting for anyone to come fix the issues and no one showed. I text him at16:00 and asked for an update on expecting someone. He then told me that I needed to leave the apt. and that me talking to his mom at midnight gave her a heart attack and put her in the hospital and he was now flying in because apparently he doesn't even live here. This was a lie and when I tried to text him about staying/meeting up to talk he was having none of it. He canceled my reservation, and then sent a pic to me of him holding a handgun in his car threating me if I didnt leave. I am limited here but the full review is on another popular review site for the TRIP (hint, hint)

I love the location and proximityo hidden gems like Secret Harbor and Red Hook less than 1 mile away

I had rented from Ophialia earlier in the 2022 and she is an awesome host. She is a very kind person who will go out of her way to make your stay special. Today, I consider Ophilia a friend that I come to the USVI to visit.

We loved the place and it’s local charm. It was a great location. The air conditioning was perfect for me. Ophelia was very sweet. Zoom taxi knew where we were and took excellent care of us. Would go back for sure!

Good Choice

Hi! The place is just like the pictures. Stayed here almost a week. Clean, shower works good, nice balcony, the beds were just fine, A/C works good; just make sure to close the bedroom door for the A/C as the bathroom area / foyer is open the atmosphere through mesh at the top. Close walking distance to Secret Harbor Beach (awesome btw; A good mix of all the features of St Thomas beaches) and Sunset Grille. Spent alot of time at both, reasonable prices at the grill. Aqua Action is nearby and I did their Discover Scuba course, highly recommend!

Good location for active travelers

This review actually applies to Ophelia's 2 bedroom unit on the same property. We had booked the studio but upon arrival we were given the 2 bedroom. Ophelia is a great host! She is responsive and helpful if you have questions or need anything during your stay. We had clean, fluffy towels; fresh bed linens; a kitchen with dishes and utensils needed for basic meals; a small living area with TV; and the main bedroom has AC so you can stay cool while you sleep. If you tend to be on the go when traveling this is a great location for a reasonable price. There is a beautiful beach about a 10 minute walk from the property and you can walk down to Red Hook in 20 minutes, or so. In just a few minutes you can reach the main road to hop on the safari bus or public bus. That being said, the only issue we had was with transportation (other than walking). Not all of the drivers seemed to understand where we needed to be dropped off in order to reach the property. The aquatic center might be a good landmark for future travelers.

Great place to stay if you’re not into a luxury and don’t mind to walk up and down hills. It is about 15 minutes walk to the best beach on the Island and about 5 minutes walk to the safari bus stop, which takes you around St Thomas. You can also walk to Red Hook shopping/restaurants area (about 20 minutes walk). Would highly recommend this place, Ophilia is a great host!

Worst experience ever

Stay far away from this place. Not only does it look worse than the pictures but the air conditioner does not work and it is 82 degrees in the room at all times. We told the owner of the issue and it was never fixed, all we were given was a fan which did not help at all. We saw multiple cockroaches inside, and the entire property is in overall poor condition. This was by far the worst place we have ever stayed.

Had a great experience, very conveniently located, comfortable, with a private patio and view of the marina. Not the strongest water pressure but that is common on the island so be conservative. Well worth the cost, great time!

Great location n great host

Miss Ophelia upgraded me to a bigger place right away and even let me have a late checkout. The place is prettier than in pics, in a safe area, walkable to secret harbor beach and 15 mins walk from red hook. Miss Ophelia is kind and every time there was a problem (shower due to electricity gone or WiFi not working), she was very proactive in fixing them. I enjoyed my stay and would come back to stay here.

Mini vacation

apartment was clean and neat. Perfect for my trip. My host Tony was very friendly and helpful. He even gave me a ride into town and gave me some history on the island and his family. Very enjoyable. I w0uld stay there again.

Why they chose this property

This property was chosen because of it's proximity to St John where much of my family and youthful memories reside. But, you know you always have to give a little distance from those you love.

What makes this property unique

You're within walking distance of Red Hook which has a lot of bar/restaurants, gaming (slots), grocery, pharmacy, marina (charter private boats, captain school), and the ferry to St John and the BVI (passport).

Best of all, Secret Harbor Resort is a 10 min walk away. The beach is beautiful. There's Sunset Grill. Personally, I like to get a Sunset Burger, two Rum Punches, and then float.

If you want a more authentic island experience, we can guide you to some nice locations that aren't necessarily on the tourists path.
