About this property
Gateway to Glacier Bay, Vacation Rental in Hoonah, Alaska
Experience the wonders of Chichagof Island while residing in the privacy of this red and yellow cedar cabin located in Hoonah, Alaska. The chalet rents in a small neighborhood setting with all of the amenities of home. Hoonah Hideout is rented only on a short-term or daily basis (two day minimum). It can be used as a private stay for one to seven guests.
The flawless wood of this structure was harvested from Southeast, Alaska. Icy Straits Lumber & Milling Inc. harvested and milled the timber locally. This fine company further aided in the construction of the cabin with their team of first-rate craftsmen.
Hoonah, Alaska is a small community located in Port Frederick (accessed by Icy Strait), on Chichagof Island. The culture of Hoonah is deeply rooted in its Alaska Native people and traditions. This sleepy community has in recent years grown with the addition of a port for commercial cruise liners. Point Sophia is a renovated cannery which serves as a stop for cruise ships, touring the inside passage. While this commercial point is a place of interest, even more so are the endless miles of logging roads surrounding Hoonah. Deer, brown bear, and other wildlife abound on these roads as well as some of the most remote and scenic mountain passes beaches and bays in the world.
Hoonah has a grocery store, hardware store, as well as several restaurants. When one travels to Hoonah, it is usually connected to the area's incredible fishing (fresh and saltwater), hunting (deer & bear), wildlife/marine viewing, sea kayaking, mountain biking, or touring among the various coastal Alaskan communities. Water taxi, fishing and hunting guides, and road tours are all available in Hoonah. Hoonah is located directly across Icy Strait from Glacier Bay National Park. Most visitors reach Hoonah via small plane service out of Juneau, Alaska. There are two services that have several scheduled flights each day to Hoonah. Both are based out of the Juneau Airport. You may also charter a plane or take a scheduled Alaska State Ferry from Juneau to Hoonah.
