A perfect place to relax and unwind, this ocean front condo complex has a glimpse of a view of the ocean from the very private lanai. With tropical garden views in every direction and the sound of the waves in the background, relax and enjoy. We’re delighted that this is a unit that sees guests coming back for repeat visits!

The condo was recently fully remodeled and is tastefully decorated in contemporary Hawaiian style. The unit has the largest and nicest kitchen in the complex. The dream kitchen has granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, island/eating bar, and lots of counter space. Kitchen amenities include dishes for toddlers and all the cooking gear you’ll ever need, down to the rolling pin! The kitchen is fully stocked with everything but your groceries.

The master bedroom features a Queen bed and the second bedroom has two twin beds (may be made up into a King), making it perfect for families or two couples. In addition, the Queen pull-out sofa sleeper in the living room provides sleeping accommodations for up to 6 people. Both bathrooms have large, tiled showers with river stone floors, and granite countertops. This is the only ground floor (no steps!!) unit with 2 full bathrooms in the complex.

The lovely large lanai has a patio table and chairs for al fresco dining, as well as chaise lounge chairs. It has a very private feel but is still open to the beautiful, lush gardens of the complex. A few dozen steps to the left and you are ocean-side at the seawall. This oceanfront gathering place is a wonderful, warm spot to visit and watch the whales and sunsets.

Maui Sands is oceanfront, and sometimes beachfront. It’s amazing to be able to walk on the beach all the way from our property for 3 miles to Kāʻanapali. The Maui Sands complex is the very last resort from which you can walk on the beach for miles, all the way down to Black Rock in Kāʻanapali. Steps into the ocean make it easy to swim and snorkel in the reefs right out front. Soft sandy beach right out front when the tide is low. The ocean entrance is rocky, not sandy. Since we’re at the end of a 3-mile-long stretch of beach, our shoreline changes depending on currents and storm systems far away. Typically during the summer months the ocean currents move the sand north towards our property and our beach grows. This is due to the increased tropical activity south of the islands. During the winter months the Alaskan storm systems push the current and the sand south towards Kāʻanapali and our beach comes and goes. During those months, the ocean entrance is rocky, not sandy. However, sandy beaches are very close by some within walking distance (1 block north or 2 blocks south) and others a short drive away.

Maui Sands features safe swimming areas in both the pool, and the ocean thanks to the Kahekilli Marine Reserve that fronts the resort. Beyond that is the Hawaiian Humpback Whale Sanctuary with the densest concentration of humpbacks in all of the Hawaiian Islands, where humpbacks are a common site from December to April. Spinner dolphins, sea turtles, eagle rays, and Hawaiian monk seals can be spotted year-round. The double volcanic reefs out front break the waves into bathtub calmness during low tides making it one of the best spots in Maui for toddlers to play in safety. Year round you can surf, kayak, snorkel and swim right at Maui Sands.

A few steps to the right you’ll find the pool, an unheated freshwater pool (90% of pools in Hawaii are unheated). Lounge chairs surround the pool and BBQ grilling area. The area also features covered seating area to one side for relaxing, outdoor eating, and visiting. The pool area also has an ice machine, soda machine, picnic tables, the property 'library', and outdoor shower. The grounds host a total of three BBQ grilling areas, and a coin operated laundry is only a few steps from the door of the condo. All units surround a large grass areas where the kids can play. This property is family friendly, yet still very peaceful. Located on the ground floor close to the pool and large grass/garden area of the property, the kids will be able come and go from our lanai (patio) doors rather than needing to exit the front doors and walk around the building to the pool or to play. This convenience of being able to walk out of your unit from the lanai straight to the pool, ocean or just to play on the large grass areas of the property is a reassuring benefit.

Amenities of Note:
• A large flat-screen TV, cable, DVD player, and free high-speed internet.
• This unit does have three air conditioning units to cool the space, located in the living room and each of the two bedrooms. In addition, there are both ceiling fans and floor fans in the living room and the bedrooms. Please note that since Maui has some of the most expensive electric in the US, the air conditioners are kept on timers to mitigate costs.
• On the lanai you’ll find a bin stuffed with beach chairs, snorkel gear, beach toys and shoes. The unit also has coolers and beach towels available for your use.
• The unit provides one assigned parking spot and there are NO resort or parking fees.

Maui Sands was one of the first resorts on Maui. The complex was built in 1966 when developers were able to sparsely populate the oceanfront properties. This means you'll enjoy the lowest density property on West Maui. The resort features four acres of lush, tropical grounds that are beautifully manicured with mature plantings, ranging from coconut palms, mango and banana to hibiscus and plumeria. The view spans the Au'au channel and encompasses a view of the island of Molokai and the north side of the island of Lanai. You will see turtles lunching on seaweed off the reef year-round, and lucky visitors may encounter an endangered Hawaiian monk seal sleeping in the warmth of the sand. If your stay is in the winter, between mid-November to mid-April you may see humpback whales teaching their newborns to swim.

Within walking distance is a grocery store, natural food store, farmers market, coffee shops, restaurants, spa, shops and much more. The property is within walking distance to world class restaurants, including Dukes, Roy’s, and the Hula Grill. Beaches are located close by, to the north and south. Golf courses are just a short drive away. A beautiful walking/jogging pathway through the Ka'anapali area has fabulous scenery for miles. We love to go for a beautiful long walk every morning! Whalers Village is near by with lots of shops, restaurant/bars, and lovely beach.

While you will be surrounded by incredible beaches, you will also be conveniently close to scenic golf courses including the Plantation Course in Kapalua, less than six miles north, and the Ka'anapali Golf Courses only three miles south. On your way, visit local favorites like Ohana Tacos, peruse the farmers market, or rent some snorkeling gear or a bike at Boss Frog's. Honokowai Marketplace, located less than a half-mile away, also offers everything you might need for your vacation, including breakfasts at Slappy Cakes, the Times Market for any forgotten items, and refreshing shave ice.

Maui Sands is located at the border of North Kāʻanapali Beach and Honokōwai areas of the island. We're right on the ocean in west Maui, a few minutes north of Kāʻanapali and just south of the Kapalua area. The resorts next to Maui Sands are Papakea Resort and Paki Maui.

We take your safety and well-being seriously. We have a comprehensive cleaning and sanitizing program for this property. Our cleaning service and on-site staff are spending as much time as necessary to make sure that all areas of your rental are thoroughly cleaned before you check in.

While we would love to accommodate every request, we ask you to plan ahead as we may not be able to allow early check ins and late check outs as often as we would like. We have a check in time of 4 p.m. and a check out time of 11 a.m., unless prior arrangements have been made. Minimum stay required unless it fits into a short opening in dates. MAUI IS OPEN!! Beginning October 8th, all travel restrictions will end and West Maui (including Nāpili, Kāʻanapali, Honokōwai and Kapalua) will be open to visitors again with the exception of Lahaina. Maui Sands is located in Honokōwai, between Kāʻanapali and Kapalua. Honokowai and surrounding neighborhoods did not suffer from any fire damage. Fire damage was limited to Lahaina city which is several miles to the south.
