About this property

Stay awhile cottage is here for your relaxation and fun.

Our home helps you relax and take in lake life the moment you enter. It has authentic, original knotty pine walls that are beautiful and homey. With a wide open floor plan, you can view the lake and Bristol foothills from the kitchen all the way through to our "lake" room via the huge picture window. Our 50' wide lakefront property has a level walk to the lake or to the dock-- fishing off the dock is loads of fun. Lake access is just a step into it or a boat ride off the end of the dock! (Please wear water shoes due to zebra mussels.) We have a canoe and a kayak for rent if you wish to use it. Otherwise, bring your own watercraft or rent it from the local marina, Trident.
The lovely lapping sound of water puts your mind at ease while you sit on our spacious patio with plenty of seating, table space, sun-shading umbrella and Weber grill. A favorite patio pastime of mine is reading a good book. It's quiet all weeks and weekends except for Memorial Day and July Fourth. You'll think you're in paradise.
The fire pit is great for roasting marshmallows or making smores while you look at the night time sky or across the lake. Firewood is available around town or bring your own if you are within 50 miles of our cottage. There is also a gas grill for you to use if you wish. We have lawns on both sides of the road that provide for plenty of room to play games. The road, off the main drag, is quiet and neighbors are friendly.
Restaurants, stores, gas stations, wineries and scenic trails are all a short distance away. In the town of Honeoye, there are a couple restaurants, two shops that feature crafts from local creators and a seasonal weekend flea market, grocery store, and a drug store. Naples is 20 minutes away with Grimes Glenn State Park (so much fun), several wineries, restaurants, and an Artisan craft shop. Canandaigua is just a 30-minute drive.
We have three bedrooms, two with queen beds, the third one has two singles. Although they are not large bedrooms, they are adequate for your time at the lake. All bedrooms have in-window air conditioners. There are no televisions in bedrooms. Who needs one when you can gaze at the beautiful lake? All bed linens are supplied.
The living room also has an air conditioner and fan that's large enough to make it comfortable in the open floor plan. The main room is quite large, lots of room for dining at the table, lounging on the sofa and recliner, playing games, and looking at the lake from most all places in the room. The television is in this room. We have wi-fi and there is streaming service with information on how to get to apps. There is a room at the front (lake side) of the cottage with another fantastic view of the lake. It's pretty close to panoramic! The sunrise comes through the windows in this room and it's really a sight to behold. It's fun to have morning coffee in here if you don't want to venture outside so early in the morning. But, nothing can beat being on the deck next to the water with your morning Joe or fishing from the dock as the sun comes up. The deck/patio has tables and seating for a good number of people. We have all sorts of trays available for you to easily carry your food from the kitchen to the deck.
There are two bathrooms. One bathroom has a full tub/shower combination; the second bathroom has separate shower and toilet facilities and is incorporated in the laundry room. Towels and wash cloths are supplied as well as beach towels. Washer and dryer are there for your convenience. All appliances and utensils are in the kitchen and basic spices are supplied.
If you are a quilter as I am, you will be happy to know that is opportunity to visit approximately 20 quilt shops within an hour's drive of the cottage. So, plan two days for shopping if you want to add to your stash. You can even get to the shops listed in the ANYSH Western region in as little 20 minutes or up to 2 hours 10 minutes from the shop. If you're interested, you could even book a little longer stay and use a portion of it for a small group quilt retreat. There are basic supplies, like cutting mats and power strips, for that type of vacation as long as you give the owner advance notice.
Seneca Park Zoo, Eastman House, Strong Museum, Roseland Water Park and Niagara Falls are within driving for a day away and then a return to the cottage. We will leave you to enjoy your vacation without interruption, but are available to you from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. each day of your stay if you have questions or problems.

About the host

We are blessed with a great family of grown children, grandchildren and a large extended family. The major reason we bought our cottage was for gatherings of family and friends. Throughout our married life, we have traveled to many places. We've been to Mongolia, China, England, South Africa while family members lived there. We have also been to several Caribbean countries and many states. It's such a beautiful world, people are so interesting, and food is fun to explore! If we never traveled outside of New York state, though, we would be very happy too. Since we purchased the cottage, we are very content to spend a lot of time at Honeoye Lake. Yvonne was a high school English teacher for 22 years in a local district. She enjoyed it very much and is still teaching in retirement in a different way--to her grandchildren. Terry worked in skilled trades, testing units for today's cars. He has retired from that profession but still maintains a part-time job that allows him to work with older people on a weekly basis.

Why they chose this property

My husband traveled to Honeoye Lake in the Finger Lakes region to visit a friend several years ago and fell in love with the area. When I spoke to him about looking for a cottage just a few years ago, he wanted to look at Honeoye Lake again because of that experience. We visited several cottages but ours fits us to a tee. It is lakefront with knotty pine and an open floor plan. We looked at very modern cottages, worn out cottages, and those with authentic charm. Our cottage has the charm that we love. It's perfect for a couple, a small gathering of friends, or a family vacation. Honeoye is nestled at the base of Bristol Hills. From our cottage, you can see much of the length of the lake and the hills that surround the area. A short trip up any direction will show you the beauty of the area with hiking trails, farm country, and even a couple of state parks: Harriet Hollister Recreation Area; Grimes Glen State Park; Letchworth State Park.

What makes this property unique

Our cottage provides room to move in its open plan giving guests a gorgeous view of the lake come rain or come shine. Honeoye Lake is at the Bristol foothills. You have the advantage of being on water yet feeling like the mountains are all around, because the lake is in a small valley and the vista changes seasonally. The lake is shallow (32 feet at its deepest) so it is warm enough to swim in most of the summer unlike deep lakes that remain cold. There ARE weeds in the lake because it's shallow, so expect that when fishing. Most of our guests have told us that it makes for good fishing since fish like the protection of vegetation. We have weed mats in our little cove making swimming there very pleasant and, if the weeds get thick, we also rake them away so that you will not be hindered by them. Please wear water shoes, because we have zebra mussels. It's a great lake for recreational boating or fishing. Or, just gazing at it while releasing all the tensions away.
