We had a great time in this wee, cosy cottage. Cottage itself full of beautiful decor, very clean.
Great stay, really. OK, the weather wasn't that good all week.
For sure will come back summer time!

Thank you for your kind comments and sorry the weather was so unkind to you. It will be lovely to welcome you back and hopefully the weather will be good so you can see the beautiful area at its best and enjoy walks and outside activities. Lesley.
Our stay at Clachan Cottage Anwoth was perfect. The cottage is ideal for 2, is well equipped and furnished and comfortable. The bonus is the beautiful garden shared with the numerous birds that visited the bird table ,including to our delight colourful woodpeckers! Lesley gave us a warm welcome and was very helpful. We appreciated the peace, the walks in lovely countryside, and coastline. The nearby towns of Gatehouse of Fleet, Castle Douglas, and Kircudbright all have something to offer of interest as well as satisfying all our shopping needs. An excellent stay and we hope to return.

Thank you for your kind comments. It was a pleasure to meet you and David and I’m pleased you enjoyed your stay. It would be lovely to welcome you back again sometime.
Unfortunately parking was an issue as there was no designated parking at the property it was across the lane on a gravel/grassy area which was an access route to the local farmer.
It is a lovely little character property but would benefit from some modernisation without taking away the character. For the price we paid felt it was not value for money..

Thank you for submitting your review. I am sorry to hear your issues regarding the parking. When you were not happy to leave your 2004 model Porsche on the parking area just a lawns length from the cottage I allowed you to park it on the front lawn next to the cottage which I thought you were happy with.
For the benefit of future prospective guests who might read the review I would like to point out that in 41 years of renting the cottage as a holiday cottage no one has once complained about the parking. It is as stated on a short grassy/gravel area a few yards from the cottage and two cars can park alongside each other and still allow room for the occasional access to the farmer’s field.
Regarding the price. I am sorry you did not think it was value for money but because you chose to book through VRBO you paid £114.80 over the price guests who book direct with me. Our weekly price for October half term is £470 and our nightly price for 4 nights is 80% of the weekly rate i.e. £376. I believe you paid £490.80 to VRBO for the privilege of doing so.
Clachan cottage is absolutely charming with a beautiful garden that extends way back and has all sorts of nooks and crannies. the cottage was very comfortable and had all you could need including a great view of the birds feeding at the bird table. Lesley was very helpful and the vase of flowers from the garden was a lovely touch.

Such a pretty cottage and amazing garden with ponds and fish.
Lots of space inside and we made the most of the sun room watching the birds and red squirrel.
So much to do in the area.........many castles and gardens.
Castle Kennedy Gardens and Logan Botanic Gardens were highlights.
Many sandy beaches close too. A little gem!

A pretty little cottage with a stunning garden and perfect silence. Set in a tiny hamlet if you want to be away from everything this is the place. Equipped with everything and a lovely wood burning stove for cooler evenings. The perfect getaway.

A delightful country cottage in an amazing setting
This is a hidden gem of a holiday cottage.
The setting is beautiful and the lovely cottage has everything you need with the added bonus of an amazing garden and doorstep wildlife! Lesley and Bill were the perfect hosts and we were made to feel truly at home. The village of Gatehouse is perfect for holiday makers who like peaceful towns and is nestled in beautiful countryside. There are handy shops and good places to eat. Easy to access the whole of Dumfries and Galloway from this area.
This cottage is a must for anyone who loves the countryside, coast, gardens, peace and quiet, dark skies and nature!

About the host
Hosted by Lesley Pepper
Hello, I am Lesley and together with my husband Bill came to live in The Old Schoolhouse in picturesque Anwoth in 1980 when we opened our home to B & B guests and rented out Clachan Cottage, the wee But 'n Ben next door, to self catering holiday guests. We are keen gardeners and have developed attractive gardens surrounding the cottages and produce all our own fruit and veg in the adjoining veg garden. Eight years ago we built a cottage in part of the veg garden which we moved into last year and now rent out Anwoth Old Schoolhouse for holiday accommodation together with Clachan Cottage. Over the last 30 plus years we have enjoyed sharing our home and this idyllic haven with l00's of guests making many friends along the way and hope to continue to meet and make many more friends in the years to come. We are at hand to help out with any queries you may have and advise on the wealth of things Galloway has to offer but at the same time will also respect your privacy. 2016 is our first season with Owners Direct so as yet we haven't any reviews published but reviews can be seen on our website.
Why they chose this property
Bill has travelled a good part of the world but has found this little gem in the virtually undiscovered and unspoilt corner of Scotland hard to beat. This view is shared with many of our guests who after discovering Anwoth return to the cottage time after time as is corroborated in the comments expressed in the guest book. We look forward to welcoming you to the cottage to share the same experience. Further details on places to visit in Dumfries and Galloway can be found on our website.
