Cute & central plantation-era Wailuku Town home
Summary Wonderful clean 1BR suite in a small old-hawaii-style duplex in Wailuku Town. This home has been lovingly well maintained to retain its historic character, while having been remodeled where it counts (like the kitchen!). Private off-street parking. Central Maui location in the heart of Wailuku Town where you can walk to an eclectic variety of shops.
Details This cute plantation-era Wailuku Town home is absolutely perfect for adventurous visitors who are looking to escape the touristy trappings of South and West Maui. This is a safe, inexpensive and central home-base to adventure all over our wonderful island.
The suite has a queen bed and a/c in the bedroom. The living, dining and kitchen areas are an open and airy light-filled floorplan. Optimally located jalousie windows allow the sweet tropical tradewinds to blow though the home so you probably wont ever want to turn that a/c on anyway!
The owners are wonderful and also own and operate a business immediately adjacent to this house. While they are quite nonintrusive and respect their guests privacy, they are also available to talk story and share their favorite local dining and exploring tips!
Location Located in the heart of old Wailuku Town, just ten minutes from the airport. This location is perfect for folks who plan on exploring all around Maui (something I suggest no matter where you stay!) It’s also worlds away in attitude and experience from the touristy hotels and resorts.
Wailuku is the capital town of Maui; completely non-touristy and down to earth. Compared to mainland cities, Wailuku is a sleepy laid-back small town, a throwback to much simpler times. In recent years Wailuku has seen a resurgence, with an eclectic array of hip shops and restaurants opening up alongside old-time Maui standards. You can walk all of Wailuku Town from this very central location.
Examples of what you might find strolling around the neighborhood: hip coffee shops, local clothing boutiques, hair salons, all different manner of inexpensive restaurants that aren’t on the tourists radar, antique stores, island-style pawn shops (with items like surfboards and Hawaiian antiques and jewelry you wont find in the resorts), a funky record store, yoga studios, the Maui Academy of Performing Arts, a smoke shop, historic Iao theater, a sushi bar, art galleries, a crystal shop, an authentic tiny New York style pizza joint – and so much more! Bonus: the first Friday of every month there is a block party where folks come from all over Maui to hang out, listen to live music, eat and browse the local vendors wares.
Moving outside the town, you’re also situated just a couple minutes before where the amazingly picturesque West Maui Mountains split to open into historic and sacred Iao Valley.
Iao Valley is just a few scenic minutes by car and has hiking trails (Kepaniwai Park just between here and Iao Valley is a great spot for a picnic.) The North Shore of West Maui starts close to here as well, with scenic vistas and less crowded hikes like the Waihe’e Ridge Trail. If you’re interested in learning more about Maui and Hawaiian history and culture, the Bailey House Museum is also close by and holds a large collection of photographs and Hawaiian artifacts that range from traditional stone tools to Duke Kahanamoku’s surfboard. (Bailey House is also a great place to score some unique gifts that are actually made in Maui.)
15 minutes in another direction takes you to the Maui Ocean Center and the Maalaea harbor for snorkel boats and whale watches. You’re also five miles from Maui Tropical Plantation and and you’re just 15-20 minutes from the resort areas of Kihei & Wailea. Half an hour will get you to West Maui’s Lahaina Town. You’re also closer to a Road to Hana adventure, and also to Haleakala than the resort areas are.
For wind and kite surfing, and downwind enthusiasts, Kanaha, Kite Beach and Kahului Harbor are just minutes away.
An incredible value for your travel dollar when you consider what resort lodging costs – and the unique value added experience and authenticity that comes alongside is invaluable.

This cottage is a great options for a short or long stay on Maui. It is well appointed, clean, easy access and we had good communication with the management.
Clean, convenient, comfortable! We stayed for a few night while visiting the islands. Highly recommend and may stay here again when visiting local family!
It was a very centralized location albeit on a busy road. It was close to the airport and shopping and not too far from the beach. We enjoyed doing The Road to Hana, a Luau in Lahaina and Baldwin Beach.
This place was a great option for staying on Maui and being able to get to just about everywhere. It’s a great place to begin a trip down the Road to Hana, and there are a lot of good places to eat in the city. Highly suggest trying JJ’s Tacos food truck just blocks away.
The bed was comfortable and the AC worked very well for a good nights sleep.
Had a great stay visiting friends on Maui. The cottage is very clean, kitchen has all you need, and it is located within walking distance to several restaurants and cafes. Also location is great if you want to venture to both, the South of Maui, incl Hana as well as to the West/North (Napili etc)Communication with host was easy and prompt.
My husband and I stayed here a few nights on our trip to Maui, and this was the perfect spot! It was a great location, close to the airport, central location on the island to go and do lots of fun activities, and overall a very pleasant stay! Thank you!

Quaint and eclectic
Great location, especially to get a feel of the local life. Easy walking access to some wonderful restuarants and Bars (as long as you like local) Top location to explore the entire island.Shared parking with the back apartment can be tight.Only detractraction is the local traffic can get noisy.
Communication from property managers always prompt & courteous. Very comfortable house. Close to many activities we enjoyed: Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Bailey Museum, Native Intelligence arts store, Wailuku Coffee & Ululani’s Shave Ice. Would happily stay again.

Convenient location in town center of Wailuku. Living area/kitchen, one bedroom, and bath suite in a former plantation house — airy, with high ceilings, Convenient to interesting dining and bakeries. Neighborhood might be difficult for older patrons because of traffic and lack of sidewalks. Good value for adults.
Pros: The home was spacious, conveniently located and accurate to the listing photos. We appreciated that the host provided shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the bathroom. The two chilled bottles of water in the fridge were also a nice touch.
Cons: There was a surprising amount of noise from the road (cars speeding, blasting music and a few fireworks). The bathroom and bedroom doors were also tricky to close. The floors were dirty when we arrived.
It is nice and comfortable but you have to be aware that it’s a very old house.
We enjoyed staying in the “A” suite as it had excellent cross flow ventilation and was actually reasonably large. The high (10 or 11 foot) ceilings make it feel open too. The suite was renovated so that everything is clean and functional. We never saw a bug in the place. The furniture is good quality and beach chairs/ umbrella were appreciated. There’s more traffic noise than expected but it’s not terrible. It’s an old house in the old part of the city. If you’re okay with that, this is a good place to stay. If you’re looking for a resort experience this isn’t it. The location makes it easy to get around too.
My wife and I stayed here March 15th to the 22nd. It was our first time visiting Maui. We were both very impressed how nice the house is. It was very clean and comfortable. Also everything that we needed for our stay was provided (appliances, etc.), and in good condition. Thanks to Eric for the excellent recommendations on some of the local restaurants. Particularly Bistro Cassanova , which we really enjoyed. The location makes a good starting point for day trips. Easy drives to several parts of the island. We took several trips to both the Lahaina and Kihei areas, as well as Makawao. We would definitely consider staying here on our next trip to Maui.
Clean, cute, comfy bed. Location is good for traveling to different beaches. The property itself is in a busy area surrounded by businesses and apartments. If views aren’t what you need great place. Management is excellent and cute clean place.
Quick easy access to property hosts. All questions and concerns handled promptly. The central location allows for quick travel to all points on the island.
