The Space

Excellent communication from Shane, the host. The Bach has everything you need, feels very clean, and has sliding doors which transform a smallish living area into a much bigger space.Beautiful sheets and a decent shower. We loved the fact that the Bach was close to the beach but not too close to neighbors. My husband wants to return next year.
This is a really well designed, comfortable, thoughtfully-equipped bach in a fabulous location. It is quiet and peaceful with an amazing night sky. We loved being off grid and even enjoyed the 10 minute walk from the car park up the (steep) hill to get to the bach. We were sad to leave and will return if we can. Thank you to Shane and The Barrier!

Hi Karen,
Thank you, you were great guests although we didn’t meet in person.
Also thank you for the feedback, much appreciated.

Signs to tell us where the place is. Better communication about how to get from our car to the bach. The bach itself was great

As not all roads on Great Barrier Island are sign posted, a comprehensive directions guide along with a full set of Bach instructions are sent to every guest well before arriving on the island.
This includes contact numbers should the guests have any questions or difficulties.
Google maps also offer the precise location of Koru Bach accommodation.
This bach is well designed with an outdoor bathroom. Ten minutes walk up a steep road from the creek where you leave your car
Close to Medlands Beach and a bush walk to Tryphena
Really cool bach, up a short walk form beautiful Medlands Beach. Would love to come back in summer and get the full benefit of the decks and terrace, a really cool set up for our young family of four.

Great escape
The Bach is in a great location and is wonderful to escape town. Has everything you need and great spaces to relax. Loved the openness of the place.
This building was well thought out and built by a perfectionist. We enjoyed the peaceful location and privacy. Plenty of time to relax and loved being able to have a tech free holiday. Everything and more we could have asked for. Will definitely come again. A bit of advice if renting a car....they (airport rentals) will charge you $600 for desalting the car if you drive across the low tide stream and sand, so be prepared to walk across the foot bridge to accommodation. There is a short steep concreted road section to walk up so reasonable mobility is necessary. Also, plan your food/dining out options in advance as the Island shops/restaurants are not open everyday. There are some amazing uncrowded beaches on Barrier. Paradise!
A simple, sophisticated plywood cabin of delight. We loved the design, really good linen, quality cook’s kitchen gear, fine crockery, indoor-outdoor shower, & many comfortable outdoor lounging spots
The tide-limited access for the car was tricky as we were otherwise in true Barrier timeless flow.
The master bedroom is exquisite - the 2 children’s singles much less luxurious.
The eternal hum of ocean is mesmerising.
Koru Bach is a stunning home away from home. It is perfectly situated with stunning views over Medlands Bay, and nestled amongst the trees - the bird life Is phenomenal, with Kingfishers, Kaka and Ruru right on the back door step.
Very comfy bed king bed, great kitchen facilities with everything you need for your stay, and great decking and BBQ and outdoor furniture to help you make the most of the view. I loved the private, outdoor shower too!
The owners provided great instructions, and I was met on arrival by the friendly property manager who helped me find my way to, and around the Bach.
This is a unique and spectacular spot, I plan to return.
Recharge your batteries in this idyllic getaway, it's everything you want to get away from a busy life, even though we only had two days, it was the best day off we've had in years. The house is nothing short of perfect, go there to experience it yourself, you won't be disappointed!

We had the BEST stay at Koru Cottage.
We had the BEST stay at Koru Cottage. Exactly what we needed to unwind. The Bach is tucked away up a hill and nestled under tall whispy Manuka trees. It is so beautifully designed with everything we needed. The beach is a close 10 beautiful minute walk. The 4wd drive access across the stream was easy and the long walk up Medlands Beach is a must to de-stress.
Can't wait to go back one day.
