About this property
Family Heirloom stylish retreat and lakefront fun close to Ottawa. Pet-friendly!
TORONTO / HAMILTON : Families from the GTA and beyond have rented our cottage, much to our surprise. No Toronto cottage country traffic jams, for half the price!
A FAMILY HEIRLOOM
The cottage has been in the family for over 50 years and is much cherished. We've just gone through major renovations. We have a deep sense of respect for the family tradition we were fortunate to have handed down to us. Over the last seven years, our guests have taken care of it as their own.
A PRISTINE LAKE
Our family cottage is on Hughes Lake, in the Pontiac region of Quebec. It is situated on a large hillside lot with 40 m lakefront accessed by stairs leading to fixed and floating docks. The pristine water is perfect for swimming in deep water (no weeds); two kayaks and a canoe let you fully enjoy the lake.
A CHEF'S KITCHEN
The main floor contains one huge sun drenched space (74 sq.m. / 800 sq ft.) with cathedral ceilings. The fully equipped kitchen is anchored by a VikingWolf gas stove and offers 18 feet of counter space for pitching in. The adjacent dining area seating 10 and living room with a beautiful fieldstone fireplace create a communal space perfect for family gatherings.
A HUGE DECK FOR OUTDOOR FUN... AND A VOLLEYBALL COURT
At the front of the cottage is a large treetop deck (50 sq. m. / 540 sq. ft.) with a sitting area and firetable, dining table that seats eight, a gas BBQ and a dog gate. To one side, there is a large (40 sq. m./ 430 sq. ft.) three season sunroom with windows on three sides offering tranquil treetop lake vistas. Behind the cottage is a sand volleyball / badminton court.
SPACE FOR LIVING AND ENTERTAINING
The main floor is the social hub of the cottage. Two separate living and entertaining spaces, room to play cards, dominate the world at Risk or make your fortune at Monopoly. The sunroom doubles as a TV room. No video games here (unless you BYOD). If you don't know the acronym, ask your adolescent. If s/he doesn't know, welcome to a videogame free zone. A Sonos sound system is at your disposal. Download the SONOS app before coming to access your own music.
COOL BEDROOMS FOR COMFORTABLE SLEEP
The lower floor is a walkout facing the lake. It contains four bedrooms: the master bedroom with a King size bed, sitting area and fireplace, and two other bedrooms with a King and a Queen size beds. The fourth room is best described as a kids dormitory : the room is 18 feet long by 12 wide and it currently offers two bunk beds with double lower and single upper, with lots of room for extra kids' air mattresses. A powder room completes the downstairs space. A fifth bedroom on the main floor has a double bed. The main floor bathroom is equipped with a massage shower.
A FAMILY GATHERING PLACE
Our family cottage is perfect for grandparents to gather their kids and grandkids, for two or three families sharing a summer experience, or for a Christmas or winter clan gathering. Talk to us, we'll let you know how we've enjoyed the cottage over the last 50 years...
SAFETY FIRST
Water and fire safety MUST ALWAYS be top of mind at a cottage. Please be prepared and respect warnings and restrictions. Flotation devices in various sizes are put at your disposal. A small woodfire pit is usable under strict fire safety rules.
As with all cottages, small children need adult supervision around the lake. Life jackets are available for all ages and must be worn when on the water. Be smart ! Be safe !
Please enjoy smoking outside on the deck or by the firepit only. Be aware of forest conditions and please dispose of cigarettes safely.
House trained dogs are welcome. There are floor rugs throughout the cottage. Guests will be responsible for carpet cleaning fees should carpets be soiled. We’ve had two big dogs in the past and know how marking territory isn’t always against trees!
Unfortunately, my sons and I are allergic to cats and could not enjoy our cottage if it were contaminated. Cats are therefore not allowed.
