Perfect location

We had a very relaxing stay. We enjoyed many activities in the area. Canada right over the bridge. The town of Lubec was very charming and our rental was in a perfect location! We'll love to visit again.

Downeast charm

We would be comfortable coming back to rent another time. Everything in town is within a short walk, the location is bright and sunny. The property is nicely maintained for a structure being updated. A charming little place filling our needs for the week.

Nice clean side suite

Nice convenient location on a main road in Lubec with easy access to bridge to Campobello Island, and all the activities in the area. Only thing was I wished we had WiFi but we choose this suite was because it offered us a way to do laundry. It was nice and quiet and easy to find our way around the area. We spent most of our time at Campobello Island and Roosevelt Park with dinner at the Wharf Inn in Lubec.

Hello Rhonda, I am pleased that you liked the suite and that you enjoyed the surrounding area. It is stated on Home-away that there is free WiFi and there is free WiFi in the suite, which is provided by Spectrum. I am so sorry that you were not aware. I always reach out to each guest on the evening of their arrival to ask if they have any questions. Thank you for leaving the home clean. It was a pleasure to have you. Come again, and don't hesitate to ask any question. Jameelah

An Excellent Walk through the old neighborhood of Maine houses to the wonderful village of Lubec.

We were here for 3 very pleasant days, I wish it had been a week, it was such a wonderful town and area . Our duplex was large and well maintained and so quite. Our hostess Jameelah, was very gracious and informative and had the duplex well set up. We loved the neighborhood and area so much that we want to buy a home for ourselves. Merritt

Great access to the surrounding area!

This is an apartment partitioned from the rest of an older home. The owner is making improvements and the kitchen and dining area were completed before our stay. Everything we needed for cooking, laundry and bathing were found. The location is perfect for access to area activities. There are many things to see and do starting with a short walk to downtown Lubec. The owner was very concerned with our comfort and accommodated us well !

Everything was great! Every detail thought of!

Really enjoyed the house. It was very comfy with every detail taken care of! Bed was great very comfortable which was really good because it was a full size not a Queen size as reported. Which was our only real disappointment. Great shower, heater, and nightlights! Thanks for such a great experience!

Beautiful small coastal Maine town!

Overall we had a lovely stay and the house is right in the downtown of tiny Lubec - a few minutes walk to the ocean and Lubec is charming and quiet and everyone we met was very open and friendly. The rental is one half of the downstairs of an old (late 1800s?) home so it has lots of charm. It was plenty big for my husband and myself and our daughter. And it is a great value!

Quiet, Convenient, Clean

I stayed here with my college-age daughter for two nights in July 2018. We used this as a jumping-off spot for exploring nearby lighthouses, hiking, and boating. I couldn't have asked for a better location--we could walk to the restaurants and shops in Lubec, and it was a five minute drive to Campobello with all its beautiful trails and interesting history. The apartment was very clean and had every amenity we needed for simple meal preparation. The host was delightful, too! She had many excellent recommendations for things to do.

Lubec is great!

This property was pretty much as advertised. However, I did not see any chairs behind the property to have a nice view of the water. The back yard was tiny and I could not figure out where this picture was taken. The location was excellent and everyone I met there was very helpful. It was just me, so there was plenty of room. It was clean and nicely furnished. I would recommend this for 2 people.

Thank you for your kind response. Chairs were available in the house. The property manager introduced himself and he was available for all questions. The apartment accommodates 2-4 people. I added a queen size futon in the living room at the end of last summer and I moved the white couch into the space near the window off the dinning area to view the backyard. Thank you, Jameelah

Worked Perfectly

This apartment worked perfectly for me and my cello as we attended Summerkeys. It is a short walk to all the places where my lessons/rehearsals were held. The apartment is comfortable, light and airy. While the owner is in the process of updating the space, the bathroom and kitchen worked well, and the living area has comfortable seating for reading in the evenings.

Great location for Bay of Fundy International Marathon

We were in town for the marathon and the house is perfectly situated for the race and restaurants in town. The apartment has all the supplies you'd expect and need. If I could recommend one change it would be an upgrade to sheets and pillows. Also perhaps to turn the heating on when guests are going to arrive in cooler weather. The house looks a little unfinished from the outside, but all in all we were very happy.
Response from VrboOwner on 6 Mar, 2020
Hello Ian, Thank you for your kind review. Sheets and pillows were purchased last summer. Pillows were firm when I left. II will check when I travel down this week. There were 3 heaters in the apartment for your use. Yes, the house is a very old home I purchased and I am slowly repairing. I started with the apartment you resided in. Thank you again, it was a pleasure having you. Jameelah

Lovely stay in a beautiful town

We had a wonderful experience at Jameelah's rental! The house has a quirky layout that only adds to its charm and it was more spacious than we were expecting, and quite clean. It's a 10-minute walk from the beach and only about a 5-minute walk from both the main street in town and the grocery store. And yes--you can see the ocean from the front of the house! It's a beautiful view. Jameelah was also super responsive to the few questions we asked her, and the property caretaker lives down the street and was available for any help we needed, as well. Lubec is such a beautiful little town and it was the perfect place to hide out from the pandemic (after making sure we tested negative, of course). We can't wait to go back and stay at Jameelah's again!

Ample space!

A lovely apartment. The washer and dryer were a plus. I thought the bed was a bit too firm for my liking, but a great place. Very close to the beach, just two blocks from SummerKeys. Jameelah graciously helped me figure out how to book last minute with credit card and was a wonderful person to rent from. Easy check in and check out. The upstairs folks wake up around 5:30am, they’re not loud but sounds of footsteps and such did wake me up once or twice-something to be aware of if you are a light sleeper. I hope I can come back next year and stay here again. Very reasonable prices for a large private space.

Lydia, welcome again next summer. It was a pleasure to have you. Lydia left the apartment very clean. I am working with a builder and I am trying to find out the best way to approach (low budget) keeping sound out. Renovations on the home is ongoing. I hope to have the main house available for rental next summer. There are four bedrooms and an unfinished bedroom, living room with a small place for a desk or dinning table, large kitchen, mud room,1 bathroom. Very spacious home. Thank you, Jameelah

Very uncomfortable bed, said room for 4 but they better be small 4

First thing when we got there the owner called us and said she has been calling my aunt to see where I was. No such person existed The bed was slanted down hill and a full size very uncomfortable I had my daughter and her husband but the sofa was so small my son-in-law slept in the car We got them a hotel room after 1st night On a positive note the area was beautiful and the location was great for exploring I could not find a hairdryer We would not recommend this place for a family but a young couple without children might like it

The couple made reservations for two people only. I was surprised four people were at the home. I addressed the issue and instructed the couple to document four adult visitors on the Home Away website. There is accommodations for four. The couple used the new washing machine / dryer, and left the home in good condition. All furniture is new (dinning table, chairs, sofa, stove, refrigerator, etc). The bed has a new memory foam mattress, which is very comfortable. The apartment is very clean with new linen and pillows. Renovations were made to the apartment prior to this summer rentals. Renovations to the main house (four bedrooms) is ongoing starting in the Fall and will rent next summer. Thank you, Jameelah Hegazy

not happy

Property was not as I felt it was advertised, very small, dark and dreary. The second bed was a solid hard small futon couch that folded flat, couldn't find the linen and my sister that was traveling with me was adamant that we were not staying there. Notified the owner, she was very pleasant though. This was my first time doing VRBO and probably won't do again, as this was not a happy experience, not to mention expensive and had to find last minute accommodations.

Response from VrboOwner on 6 Mar, 2020
The suite has a large living room, dinning room, and bath, reasonable size bedroom. There is lots of light in all the rooms, just need to open the blinds - the house is facing toward the south with lots of light and sun. The futon accommodates one person and there is a bed as well. My night rate is very reasonable, compared to most places in Lubec, especially guess has access to free WiFi, a new washing machine, and dryer, new glass dinning table for four, new refrigerator and new stove. Flooring is new in the dinning and kitchen. All furniture is new and my home is in walking distance to all stores, bank, restaurant, Summer Keys, and sea. I say if one wants to spend their time in a five star hotel then this is not the place. Next time reserve in a 5 Star hotel and pay the price. All security money was refunded to the couple, since there was no damage to the apartment.

Adequate but needs some attention

It was clean. Having kitchen facilities and a washer and dryer were great. However, there was no note with a name and address to contact to say I’d arrived or to call if I had a problem. Or what to do with trash. And for some reason this app wasn’t responding. Things needed: smoke alarm and window repairs. No smoke alarm. Is that even legal?Only 4 windows had screens and they all had to be propped open with a piece of wood. At least one window shows signs of breaking apart. Many neighbors are having their windows replaced, so there are businesses capable of doing this.

I don't keep garbage cans on the outside of my property. It is important to maintain a clean environment to keep the animals away from the home. Garbage is picked up every Tuesday morning. When you visit a rental property, it important that you communicate with the owner if you have questions; the same way you reached out to me to book your stay. All information is on the website. There is a smoke detector in the home in the main house which works for the whole house. If you noticed, houses are old in Lubec and owners slowly do repairs. Since you were busy noticing other homes in the area, you could have taken the time to notice my home you were residing. I have replaced the floors in the dining room and kitchen, painted the walls in the dining room and kitchen, replaced the old roof with a new roof, and also rebuilt the front stairs and added a small deck to the house. Repairs are ongoing. There are two fans in the apartment which suffice during the summer months. If you were not happy about the windows, there are many homes in Lubec you could rent in the future. Thank you, Jameelah

Delightful

We very much enjoyed our stay here -- everything was clean and comfortable. (The prior review of it being dark and drab is utter madness - There were plenty of windows and light!) Very convenient to downtown Lubec with the few restaurants there being within easy walking distance. The parlor off of the bed room with all of the art was a delightful place to sit and read in the evening and my wife very much enjoyed the art magazines provided. The wi-fi (info provided on fridge) was extremely fast and reliable. The kitchen is probably better suited for 1 when cooking but definitely good enough for a vacation rental. The bathroom is large and well-stocked with towels and supplies. Sitting up on the hill behind the house during the evening was lovely -- very quiet and so many stars. Oceanview may be a bit of a stretch -- you can see it, but it's definitely not like sitting by the water. But when you can be to the water in 5 minutes, it's definitely not a big deal. The temperature was perfectly fine in the apartment during the mud-August nights. Should we ever happen to find our way to Lubec again, we would absolutely stay here again.

Expected rustic, not indoor camping with multiple fire hazards

We arrived at the residence 3am due to traffic and weather. Building was not with number on it so that made it difficult to find especially in the dark. No outside or inside lights were on either. Once inside we discovered the thermostat does not work and the owner had in her directions to us told us to use the space heaters provided. We plugged in and turned on the living room space heater and put our food in the refrigerator. Within 10 minutes the power went off in the kitchen. We opened the refrigerator and noted there was no power to the refrigerator plus we then saw it was not plugged in to any outlet. The only working outlet for the fridge was just outside the bedroom next to the kitchen. We moved the fridge there, plugged it in and went to sleep in the bed, exhausted after the 8 hour drive there. We also unplugged the space heater. Of note the residence was in major disrepair. Ceiling light in the bedroom was hanging by the electric wire. Bedroom closet doors falling off the tracks and the closet knobs coming off in our hands when we tried to open them. Upon contact with the owner later in the morning - as we did not attempt contact till a reasonable hour that morning-and in subsequent contacts for repeat power outage leaving us without lights/heat, we were repeatedly lectured about not having multiple appliances on as this she was sure was the cause of the breakers going offline and leaving us without power or heat. We in turn repeatedly told her this was not the case as we were not running multiple major appliances. The owner then blamed the tenant on the other side of the building for this problem, although the tenant was out and not running multiple appliances per her own report. The owner did have her property manager get the power back on, but then was of the bizarre belief that we had brought our own refrigerator to the property. We repeatedly told her that we did no such thing and that we arrived in a SUV - no ability to bring a fridge in that! The last straw was when we told the owner that it was cold and dark in the unit to which she asked “is it really dark there at 5pm?” We replied that for the rate paid/night we expected light and heat. I am in my 70’s and my wife in her 60’s. I do not believe having light and/or heat is unreasonable. We called the town building inspector who came out and was there for at least an hour due to the numerous hazards. We can attach his letter to the owner to this review…

Unfortunately, Mr. Robert's intention was not to enjoy a country seaside vacation, but to use my home as a storage and a dumping ground. His other intention was to do construction on a dilapidated house he purchased in Lubec. Although the property manager and I instructed him not to use the new washing machine and dryer, the electric stove, and have all the lights on at the same time, he continued to do so. I have never had problems with visitors as I did with this individual. He left my home filthy with a week's worth of pizza boxes and food all over the apartment which could attract mice. He also stole my remote control for the new electric heater. He stored his refrigerator and other items in my home. As a result, I am informing VRBO that the $300 deposit will go to me. I have never demanded the deposit from any visitor. My home is for summer vacationers not people like this individual. Regarding my home condition, it is clean and very accommodating to summer vacationers. All furniture is new, free washing machine and dryer, free Wi-Fi, private driveway and entrance. I have done many repairs and it's an ongoing project similar to many rental homes in Lubec.
