About this property
Peaceful Cabin in the Woods near lake, wildlife. Hike, swim, fish and boat.
You will arrive down an enchanting trail at this vintage, off-grid log cabin in a magical old-growth forest. Starry nights at the bonfire are accompanied by the sound of bird song, owls and animals scurrying in the woodland. There is no light pollution here. Bear, deer and moose wander the tens of thousands of acres that surround the Cabin. Hike into the woods, gather and chop wood for the fire or enjoy your coffee and tea in the fragrant morning air. The Cabin is suited for small groups of up to 6 people but it is even more cozy and romantic for couples looking for privacy and a minimalist get away. Enjoy the kitchen, with pots, pans, dishes and all the amenities you need. You can light the cozy wood stove and snuggle up by the fire. There is a queen bed on the main floor, 1 queen and 2 singles in the 16ft (4.8m) x 21ft (6.4m) loft. The beds are very comfortable indeed! You will have fresh linens and soft towels provided. A pretty lake is just a 10 minute walk down the lane which is excellent for swimming, fishing and boating. Guests can use the cabin and its supplies as if they are family. Water is brought in by vehicle and will be supplied fresh for every visit. Your vehicles are parked safely on private property off the main road. There is one outhouse and it is kept very clean. An off-grid shower is provided and it is amazing! There is no electricity but there is a sporadic cellular signal if needed. The cabin is sparkly clean but don't be surprised if the odd red squirrel or mouse pays you a visit. This is a truly authentic Canadian cabin experience and humans are the visitors to this forest. Check in is between 3pm to 9pm. Guests can be met at the trail head which is a short distance from the town, or they can follow the simple instructions given before check in. 4x4 or All-wheel drive vehicles are better on the trail but going slowly, almost any vehicle can get in. Plenty of free parking is available for up to 4 cars. From the location which is disclosed upon booking, you will follow the route to the cabin where you can drive up to the front door in spring, summer and fall to park. It may be necessary to show you the ropes initially. After that the place is very comfortable. It is unlikely you will see any other people on your visit but in town there is excellent food at several good restaurants and the local micro-brewery just 10 minutes away, if you so choose. There is also a general store, a liquor store (LCBO) and the gas station. There is a public dock by the local dam which is excellent for swimming and fishing and provides amazing views of the lake. There are often local events in the summer and great snowmobiling trails in the winter. I generally get my supplies and head into the woods for days on end. There is no hunting or use of firearms at the Cabin or on the lands around the Cabin. Check out is 11 am. Guests can roam freely on 10,000 acres of prime crown land or stick to the trails on the 100 acres where the cabin sits. There are numerous lakes in the area, two are within easy walking distance. One in particular is uninhabited by people and frequented by moose, deer, bear, turkey, racoon and chipmunk. There is also the historical pioneer road just around the trail corner where you can still see the original corduroy road used by Canadian pioneers over a hundred years ago! Expect to see wildlife. As well as birds and owls, foxes, moose, deer, porcupines, bears, wolves (if you are lucky enough to hear them), chipmunks and squirrels, there are mosquitos in the forest. It is just a part of the natural order of things. Protect yourself from insects by using bug spray or covering up, it is that simple. Long sleeves and pants help as does light colored clothing. Some bug spray and bug jackets are provided. There is a charcoal BBQ, an outdoor wood stove and fire pit for cooking stews and keeping warm and comfortable seating scattered about camp. For hiking in the woods and on the trails, best to bring sturdy outdoor clothes and shoes (or boots) to get the most out of your visit. For safety and security reasons we have a trail cam that monitors traffic to and from the Cabin. This will be pointed out to you for your visit and it will not infringe on your privacy.

Check-out instructions
The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Lock the doors and return the keys
Leave the cabin as you find it, clean and tidy. Keep food packed away, dishes washed to avoid attracting rodents and bugs. Take out all your garbage, please don't feed the wildlife.
Put all outdoor fires out before retiring or leaving. If something gets damaged or broken or used up, let me know, or better still replace it, that way the next visitor doesn't have to go without.
Shut off all twinkle lights. Close and lock all windows and doors. Return key to its place.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

About the host
Hosted by Sonia

I am well travelled and have worked internationally in hotel, spa and restaurant management. Born in Canada, my true home is in the Canadian backwoods. I would love to share a true taste of our Canadian wilderness with you in our magical old-growth forest surrounded by wildlife and bird song.
Why they chose this property
The forest has humans as its visitors. It is a pristine wilderness where humans rarely go. The quiet and natural peace prevail in a world where noise, flashing lights and human chatter is the norm. Finding time away from the human chaos is the best part of this location.
