No ferry, Camano Island Garden Cottage - the peaceful Island you can drive to.
Please read the full description before booking and let me know you did when requesting a booking, even if insta booking. The garden cottage offers comfortable charm overlooking gardens bursting in flowers in season and just a 1.2 block/ 3-5 minute walk from our private community beach. If you EVER SMOKE (or vape) ANYTHING, do not book this rental!! No need to read on except to learn that you will be charged a minimum of $600 for residual smoke smell of any kind. We may have to cancel bookings for several days and up to a week over residual smoke! My nose will know, even if you don’t smoke here. That aura follows you like a Linus cloud…We wash each piece of bedding and sanitize/rotate out all pillows/ and liner/covers for each guest booking. There is no water view. The private community beach which you may use as our guests is a .12 mile (just over a block) walk.
NO PETS!! I realize that dogs are very popular around here and there are places where you can take them. Sorry, not sorry, not here- if you bring fido you will be assessed additional cleaning/ time loss fees.
The cottage has it's own private gated entrance and ground level deck with Adirondack chairs, a propane fire pit stove is available upon request , a breakfast table and chairs, and a small gas barbecue if requested. You are also welcome to use our barbecue that is around the corner on our deck. You will enter from close by parking, just off the street through the purposely indescript private gate onto the cottage private deck at ground level. Step two stairs down into the cottage. Comfortable and uniquely furnished, the cottage has two almost separate rooms, and there is a room divider that can be put across between the bedroom and the sitting/kitchenette room. The sitting area has a loveseat which becomes a twin bed and is easily pulled out, but does block access to the kitchen are for the most part. $10 extra charge for extra hot water, bed use linens/cleaning staff if using the pullout.
Unique wet room shower/bathroom, bench available upon request. There is no door on this room, but two thick shower curtains and there’s a fan, matches, and spray provided. Pretty much everyone sleeps very peacefully on our firm, yet soft organic queen bed with 100% cotton, high end sheets and bedding. Cotton sheets and blankets are freshly laundered and aired on the line. You won't find any synthetic bedding here. Pillows are traded out/sanitized for each visit, including extra pillow lining covers and throw pillow covers.
A baby or small child could sleep in a Pak-n-Play crib- just ask of needed. There is a room divider available. You might enjoy breakfast at the small table on the lovely deck in nice weather. Guests from very hot climates really enjoy just sitting on the Adirondacks in this peaceful spot.
An Eero wifi booster creates quite dependable wifi access. It’s sometimes necessary to restart the television or your computer a couple of times in order to wake up the Internet. Even though we pay for the highest speed cable, the internet company tends to shut it down when not in use, so just start your computer or the TV again a couple of times and wake it up! Sometimes it needs a real kick out of bed! A smart TV offers you viewing with our WIFI on your own Netflix or Prime, etc. accounts. We have access to Fubo and a few other complementary channels. WIFI is suitable for work, so bring your laptop and stay for the week of working vacation. (Sunday evenings are sometimes a little slow because everyone seems to be using internet in the area.) Take your lunch break with a walk to the beach or a spin on a kayak on a warm day.
Our kitchen is very usable for a little adventurous cooking even though there is no full-size stove or oven. Available are a microwave or convection/toaster oven . Please indicate if you have a preference. Many ways to cook: instant hot water pot, french press and coffee grinder or a pod style coffee maker, small NuWave oven upon request, mini fridge, hot pot available upon request, sandwich press, small and large electric fry pans, NuWave convection burner, farm sink, and well equipped dishes and utensils. You are also welcome to use our barbecue on the nearby ground level back deck or we have a small propane barbecue that you can use on the brick by your deck if you request it. There is a gas Firepit available fot marshmallow etc. roasting upon request. It often clears up enough for a sunset view at the beach, even on cloudy days. We are in the 'Rain Shadow of the Olympics' and have approximately 72+ more days with sunshine than the greater Seattle area. Its about 5-10 degrees warmer in the winter and 5-10 degrees cooler in summer than in greater Seattle area. Take a break from the heat here for a week or month and take advantage of weekly/monthly discounts.
Eat your breakfast on the deck in warm months and enjoy the shade of the Madrona tree over the deck on warmer days. Comfy Adirondacks create a nice spot to relax/read. Outdoor blankets provided for this area.
The kitchenette/sitting area has a comfy loveseat hide-a-bed. When it pulls out for bed use, it takes up most of the space of the sitting area kitchenette. Extra bedding for this bed is $10 extra for the stay. The darling woodstove heats the entire cottage quite sufficiently, but there is also electric heat in the bedroom area and in the bathroom. Wood and lighting materials are provided for the fireplace and can be replenished.
Take a cool refreshing dip at our private community Madrona beach and/or experienced kayakers may borrow ours if you sign a release. They are a little further down the beach than the 1.2 block walk to get there.
Sunsets are often stellar, if you take the short walk to the beach to watch, stay for at least half an hour after sundown for the best colors. If you don’t want to sit on the logs, just ask and we will provide some folding chairs for your use at the beach.
Hike short or longer trails in the nearby state parks.
We are just an hour from Seattle during light traffic times, but longer at rush hour and/or if you come on a holiday weekend- up to twice as long! It's so worth the trip, even in traffic. You will feel your blood pressure fall when you drive onto this sweet island. We are a nice half wayish stop between Sea-Tac Aiport) (55 miles) or Paine field (24 miles) and the San Juan Islands, and Vancouver Int'l (74 miles)

Beautiful setting. Very comfortable bed and lovely courtyard where I was able to eat my breakfast each day. A very short walk to the beach to watch the sunset each evening. Ample storage for clothing etc.
It's a very cute little cottage, even without the full kitchen we were given enough appliances to make a full dinner. The owner Sue is a gem of a human being. Interacting with her is always a treat. The bed is very luscious and the bathroom is a great large wet room. This was our second stay and it was just as good as the first
We enjoyed our stay here. The only thing we didn't like was the bumpy bathroom floor!

Our fibinacci inspred bathroom floor was made from stones at the beach a block away. Some people love the Accupressure like massage it provides, but it's not for everyone. That's why we provide both a silicone bathmat, and comfortable nonslip flip flops in two sizes, all of which are sanitized for each new guest visit.
Very clean & quiet little place to stay on Camano Island. Owners Sue & Ken very personable & professional. Like be in a guest house near family in beach village neighborhood.
We'll be open to returning one day. Very considerate owners ensuring our stay was the best it could be. Lacked nothing for a simple life atmosphere. Bed was super comfy. The shower floor was very therapeutic.
I met the owner briefly when I arrived, and she explained a couple of things that would have taken a bit of time to figure out on my own. The cabin had everything that I needed, and the bed was very comfortable. Very pleasant stay.

This was a quaint little cabin. Though no oven available, there is a microwave and small toaster and possibly a hot plate inside and a BBQ available outside. Lovely Decor!
Could use curtains for privacy. --- Lovely place and we had
a Great time getting our limit of crab nearby at Camano Island state park. -- Loved being able to park my boat and trailer in front of the property.
What a gem of a find. I couldn’t have been more pleased. The bed was very comfortable. It’s in a very safe neighborhood. The owners who live on site are wonderful kind people who wanted to make sure I was happy. Hope I can stay again some time.

It was great having you. Hope to see you back again for that crabbing experience! Bring a kiddo too!
This little cottage is a quirky/charming place. Camano Island is beautiful and it was peaceful and very quiet.. Enjoyed our two nights there. We were there for granddaughters wedding. We were busy with the wedding events, and by end of both days, being senior citizens, we were ready for a good night's sleep and this little cottage was especially perfect for that. The bed was soooooo comfy. Overall stay was very nice,
Excellent hostess. Comfortable cottage. Esoteric shower. Sue (hostess), took extra care to make our stay very memorable. Kitchen cookware was a bit challenging but doable. Close proximity to the beach made for afternoon beach exploring. Very clean abode.
Sue and Ken's cottage was exactly what we were looking for: a beautiful, self-contained space close to the beach. Great location within walking distance to the beach, with a small but well-equipped kitchen (coffee, tea, spices, organic popcorn and more), on a quiet street. We paddled using their kayaks and had a seal follow us, hung out on the lovely patio, walked on the beach, and had a relaxing time. Loved the bathroom and shower, Julietta the rabbit and Jack the cat, and Sue and Ken's hospitality. Highly recommended!

I imagine you must mean cluttered because there are accommodations that take up a little space. The cottage is small and very comfortable. What you must be calling clutter is there for comfort.. If you like a sleek and modern look, this cottage is not for you. I did offer to take anything that was in your way out when you arrived. I realize that if you’re not going to use some things such as the firewood, fireplace tools or the slippers or the extra blankets which are up on top of the wardrobe or in a drawer and out of the way, then they may be in your way and I’m happy to remove them. It’s too bad you did not indicate things were in your way, as I offer to remove items you didn’t need to use. I love having comforts available so I provide them. There is no clutter. The beach is literally .9 blocks away. It takes 2 to 5 minutes. Five if you walk very slowly.
The perfect little accommodation for a coastal getaway. The cottage has all the essentials you’d need & is a perfect home base for someone that wants a quiet place to return to after spending your days exploring and adventuring. It’s on a quiet island that is more residential than touristy so while there might not be a plethora of restaurants or shopping, it’s perfect for someone who wants to slow down & blend into the local lifestyle. The beach is just two blocks away (you could literally roll down the hill to it if you wanted) & it’s so serene. A lot of the time I was alone on the beach or maybe watched a lone dinghy or paddle boarder pass by. The hosts are obviously very passionate and thoughtful about the cottage and your experience. They’re very eager to give you the best experience possible and make sure you’re comfortable, and Sue has really gone above and beyond to share all of the best restaurants, shops, & experiences with you.
This cozy cottage and peaceful environment was the perfect spot for our long weekend birthday celebration. The hosts Sue and Kenny are absolutely amazing. They are incredibly friendly and helpful and could not have been more of a joy to meet and spend time with. This property and surrounding area offered the best of both worlds...plenty of activities such as kayaking, crabbing, paddleboarding, and outdoor space for lawn games if you're feeling adventurous or playful; while you also have the option to lounge on the beach, enjoy a postcard-worthy sunset, or just hang out on the garden-surrounded patio if you want to relax. I cannot say enough how much we enjoyed our stay. This is the perfect place to either hang out or also a good jumping off point to explore nearby areas, all with stunning views. We would highly recommend and we only hope we're lucky enough to return for another visit!
I've stayed at many vacation rental properties, and hands down, this was my favorite of all of them. I was visiting a relative in Stanwood during the most of the day and hotel options are few and far between in this area, but this was perfect. It was very peaceful and the neighborhood was quiet and if I wanted to sit on the beach to reflect or read a book when not in Stanwood, the beach was only a block or so away. The cottage is in the back of the property of the owners, who have a beautiful garden and have done a wonderful job making it really comfortable. The cottage is pretty much gated within their property so you feel really safe, and traveling alone, that was a big bonus! The owners were very hospitable and wonderful conversationalists, and I so much enjoyed their company when I would see them. If you are traveling alone or with one other person, I highly recommend staying here.

Kathryn was a lovely guest, we enjoyed having her.
This property is very small. It was adequate for me and my purpose of peace and quiet (except for the construction noise the first two days). The kitchen was adequate as I only brought microwaveable things. There are lots of other cooking appliances but not sure where you would plug them in. The bathroom was adequate but not pleasant. I’ve lived in third world countries so I could adapt, but not easy for basic grooming. Close to beach (about 3 blocks) but no view or sound of water. Bed was comfortable. Host was friendly and lots of communication.

Yes I’m so sorry about the construction noise. It’s very unpredictable when a neighbor nearby decides to get a new roof. There isn’t usually any noise near us.
There are multiple reasons that I ask you to be sure that you’ve read the entire description of the cottage. And I’m not talking about in Expedia because they have claimed things that I haven’t. I’m sorry that you didn’t appreciate the acupressure massage of the shower floor. Any people enjoy it but for those who don’t, there is a silicone mat and a couple sizes of water shoes to wear All sanitized each day. The beach is literally .12 miles, that’s just over a block. You walk past the cottage and two other small lots, turn the corner and pass the second house you passed before and one more small house lot, then the street and pass two more houses on the short path that is mostly paved to our private neighborhood beach. That is not three blocks. I have never claimed to have a view of the sound. That and lack of full kitchen the reason why are very cozy and peaceful spot (most of the time) It’s for $20-$40 less per night than nearby units that also usually sleep 4. We sleep 2 to 3 people. It’s for those who are a bit adventurous in the kitchen to try a different appliance adventure and those who can walk a block to the beach where there are often spectacular sunsets and the water can be enjoyed in the summertime.
This cute cabin and our host, Sue, gave us a wonderful, refreshing rest. The cabin is cozy and cute while comfortable and spacious inside. We found Sue to be thoughtful and gave us everything we needed for a peaceful stay. Sue and her husband added so many creative touches both inside and out. The cabin has a beautiful garden. The surrounding area is a cool, eclectic neighborhood only a few blocks from the beach. Camano Island offers unique shops such as a scrumptious bakery along with a farm stand named "The Black Dog Harvest"which sells produce and homemade, natural, aromic soaps. Sue uses them in the cabin for her guests. Our host was welcoming and so sweet with our 6 month old infant. We felt safe and well taken care of!!! After a couple days of renewed rest we were so sad we had to leave but so glad to have experienced this peaceful retreat. We had a memorable time and hope to return! Thank you, Sue!

About the host
Hosted by Sue
We love to meet people who stay in our cottage from all over as well as when we travel and look for adventure travels, especially in the water. We could snorkel all day. Sue used to be a music teacher, teaching orchestra and sometimes choral or general music classes. She still plays the cello and loves playing in the Symphony. She is pursuing some creative outlet. Ken is in construction and loves to work around the yard and house. He loves to play volleyball and is amazingly strong. He takes our little dinghy out in season in pursuit of crab - no matter the weather - to catch Sue's favorite food, Dungeness crab. We fantasize creating a volleyball court and neighborhood pea patch to share. We love to dance. We love the outdoors and getting out right here on this beach, where our dinghy and kayaks reside. Our picture was taken at the Yacht Club party down the street during their period gangster murder mystery evening that usually happens every year with a uniquely written murder mystery, written and parts played by locals.
Why they chose this property
We searched for a character home in a beach neighborhood and found it in this eclectic and friendly neighborhood.. We very much wanted a separate space for a rental. Ken wanted a garage, and only got a small space, but he has made do in finishing this 'art space' to the great cottage is has become. I had fun designing it and collecting the rocks for the shower floor. We love our yard and are constantly working to keep it under control - not quite winning. We fell in love at first sight when it was June and the thirteen peonie bushes were almost all still heavy with bloom, Wisteria crawled all over the trellis and shed, and Clematis bloomed over the archway.+++ Each month and season brings new excitement. We look forward to meeting people from all around the world. We hope you will find peace and comfort here as we have. We like we get a little exercise to go to the beach. Come find your peace and your piece of sea glass.
