A perfect place to stay! This cottage is full of character and charm, yet offers every modern comfort you could wish for. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen and bathrooms are thoughtfully stocked with all the essentials, and the back porch might just be the best place to relax in all of Montreat. We absolutely love Idlewood and highly recommend it.
We had an amazing stay! The cabin is very authentic yet very comfortable for our large family. Margaret was so helpful and responsive. Would definitely recommend!

Loved our stay at Idlewood. The house was extremely clean and kitchen was as well equipped as we have seen at any rental. Location is great with easy access to trails and Montreat amenities, and a short drive to downtown Black Mountain. We enjoyed the area over New Years and are looking forward to trying it out for a summer stay.

We adored our time at this wonderful Montreat home. The screened back porch was a dream, and we enjoyed the beginning and end of each day there. The location allowed us to walk to Lake Susan and all our activities. We highly recommend this cozy montreat cabin!

Thanks for your great review Laura! We look forward to welcoming you all back soon!!!
We had a great stay and enjoyed the cabin. The only suggestion I have is to let people know that the front door locks automatically when you leave and close it.

Thanks Kelly for your great review and suggestion about the lock. Something we hardly think about since locks are rarely used in our sweet little town but I understand it can be a problem if it happens! We will take that into consideration with future renters and hope you will return to Idlewood again!
This is a fantastic house. It is super cozy and comfortable. The porch is so relaxing and our family spends hours out there. This is our third year and the host always has everything we need when we arrive. Can’t wait to be there again.

What a cozy spot to spend the weekend with family! From the doors to the porch swings to the fire place there is so much antique charm to appreciate and enjoy. It’s in a great location with walking distance to the creek and park. The hosts were very accessible and prompt to return answers to our questions. We loved our stay and hope to be back again!

Thank you Kelly for your wonderful 5* review! We do love our charming log cabin and appreciate when our guests do as well. We are glad you had such a memorable family get-away in our little town and at Idlewood!
The house was comfortable and clean, with plenty of kitchen supplies and dishes. The driveway was very steep and wet leaves didn't help, but overall it was a wonderful weekend getaway place!

Thanks Deb for taking time to review your stay at Idlewood. We appreciate your positive comments about how well the house is stocked as we take pride in trying to anticipate the needs of our renters. While we do wish that we could change the slope of our "mountain driveway", we did recently have it graded and re-surfaced to make it a little easier to navigate in inclimate weather. We hope you will return again to see the improvements to the driveway and/or take advantage of the street side parking we provide for our guests who are not comfortable driving down the driveway.
Thanks again for visiting our beautiful mountain town and staying at Idlewood.
It was a great place for 3 generations to be together for the Memorial Day long weekend! The layout of the house including a great Montreat porch and a backyard fire pit for somemores went to making a lot of memories with grandchildren! As one of the 4year old olds exclaimed, “it was cozy!”
We enjoyed the area and the home was absolutely charming. Very impressed with how well equipped the kitchen is for cooking. Communication with the owner was top notch. We had several questions prior to arrival and she was very helpful !!

We enjoyed the stay, there was plenty of room for all of us, and it was very charming. The kitchen was well supplied with everything you need. The outdoor fire made for a nice evening of roasting marshmallows and enjoying the yard.
The driveway was very steep and a little difficult after rain.

We had a lovely time at this very cute and rustic cabin. It slept 12 comfortably with 2 families each having their own space. It had all the amenities you could think of with a VERY well stocked kitchen including a homemade ice cream maker. Montreat is a beautiful area and very family friendly. We would absolutely return this rental someday!

Thanks for noticing all of our attention to detail at Idlewood. We are glad we could make you and your families comfortable and provide all of the amenities that you may need. We hope you will return to stay again!
We had a great weekend at the cabin. We had plenty of room and it was stocked so well. We set around the fireplace outside on Friday night and loved it. The next night we made a fire inside and played cards. I absolutely loved the covered porch upstairs. I could have stayed there all weekend. So peaceful. Would certainly pick this place again. I am jealous of whoever gets it next weekend.

Thank you Melody, so glad you enjoyed your stay at Idlewood. And we appreciate and share your love of the covered porch. It's one of my favorite places on earth!!! We would love to have you back again.
This is a great location. The hosts are responsive and accommodating. I found it odd that we had to rent sheets and towels, and then pay extra to have the beds made. Appliances are all new, and lots of supplies in the kitchen and firewood. New TVs and washer/dryer. Home is very old and could use some repairs (some doors don't close properly, need another space heater for downstairs).

Thank you, Tammy for the wonderful review. We do everything we can to make our guests comfortable in our charming 100 year old cabin. We do offer linen rental for anyone who would like to take advantage of that option (pretty standard in Montreat) in order to keep our rental and cleaning rates as low as possible for our guests. We hope you will return again in the future!
About the host
Hosted by Margaret Bouknight Bauer and Daisy Bouknight Miller
Sisters, small business co-owners, and 4th generation Montreaters, we wanted to give our families the opportunity to experience summers and off-season weekends in this beautiful place. We live less than 3 hours away and come up often to stay in our nearby family home. In order to have more flexibility, we purchased Idlewood and gave it a new life. We consider Montreat to be our second home. We hope you will love this place as much as we do!
Why they chose this property
Montreat is the perfect vacation spot for families and adult groups alike. So much to do here. Idlewood is ideally located in the Valley of Montreat on a quiet street just of the beaten path, close to all attractions, activities, and hiking trails, and a 20 minute drive to downtown Asheville.
What makes this property unique
Growing up summers in the Montreat home across the street, we were close friends with the family who owned Idlewood and spent as much time here as in our own house. When the family reached out with an opportunity to purchase Idlewood, it was a no-brainer. We have always loved the unique, log-cabin feel of this home and the coziness of the living spaces. Although we purchased in 2020, it has always felt like home to us.
We love relaxing on the covered porch, grilling on the back patio, watching our children entertain friends in the big grassy back yard (even movie nights out there!), and cooking family meals to be served in the classic 100 year old dining room.
