Hi, I'm Sara Kies – a wife, a mom, and a part-time nature lover. Why only part-time? Because while I adore basking in the natural beauty around The Lake House, I don't believe in giving up the comforts of modern life. Whether it's enjoying a cocktail by the fire, kayaking down the Wapsipinicon River (affectionately known as the Wapsi), or paddle boating around Goose Lake, my love for nature is matched by an appreciation for life's conveniences. Central air conditioning, wifi, a warm shower, and a queen-sized bed with quality linens are just as essential to me as the feel of sand between my toes.
Our Story: A Journey from Personal Retreat to Shared Paradise
The Lake House, nestled on the banks of the Wapsipinicon River and Goose Lake in Independence, Iowa, has been a part of our lives for many years. It's a place where memories have been made for over a century. As our lives grew busier, with boys growing up and our jobs demanding more of our time, we realized that we couldn't enjoy The Lake House as much as we did when the boys were little. So, we decided to share our part-time love with others. Our vision is for guests to create their own memories in this idyllic setting, where the pace of life slows down, and nature's beauty comes to the forefront.
