The cabin was even more beautiful than advertised. The views were stunning. This was a perfect place to spend a laid back spring break with our grandkids. The fabulous boat dock made it very easy to rent a pontoon boat for several days. My wife thought the hot tub was perfect. There were no unpleasant surprises!

Hi Doug,
Thank you for your kind review and I took you up on your comment when you first arrived when you said to me that my pictures did not do my home justice. I hired a photographer and now I have professional pictures up with a video! I appreciated your helpful feedback.
So glad you all had fun and I would love to host you again anytime.
The host was welcoming and very responsive as needed. The home was very well stocked- there wasn’t anything that we needed that wasn’t there. We loved the open floor plan and space for everyone. The cabin feel with lots of wood and exposed wood beams made it feel charming. The outdoor space was plentiful and the views were fantastic. My daughter and her boyfriend enjoyed the privacy of the downstairs suite.
We all just loved this place. We were blown away from the moment we entered the giant, open, multi-purpose room - serving as Dan, living room, dining room, sitting room, fireplace room and game room - with seating in this one area for at least 25. Big, Beautiful wood burning fireplace, extremely comfortable sofas and recliners, and instant surround sound music via Sirius XM on the stereo. Very well appointed and supplied with everything we needed for our trip, even including separate towels for the hot tub - which was awesome - clean and ready to go. We look forward to coming back in every season if we can to get a different view. Can't wait to see it with a canopy of leaves over the huge deck in the summer, with a blanket of snow in the winter, and the beautiful colors of Autumn from all the trees and mountains and lake sitting right outside the door. Also - great communications from this host!
We came down to celebrate a 64th birthday of a dear friend. Beds were comfortable. House was clean and well stocked. We enjoyed the hot tub and kayaks. Lovely property we highly recommend!
Beautiful and serene. The house was clean and well appointed. Lots of kitchen gear making cooking for large groups easy. Enjoyed the hot tub, kayaks, and floating dock to park our pontoon rental. Alicia was as nice and responsive as she could be. Highly recommend.

It was great meeting you and your beautiful family. I don't often have that opportunity. I am so glad the weather turned out ok for your family reunion and you all had a great time. I look forward to hosting you again and thank you for your thoughtful review. Cedar Key is a magical place with one of the best views on the lake.
What an amazing property! Our group enjoyed the serene location, beautiful mountain views and the quieter end of the lake. The house was well apportioned, we particularly enjoyed the spacious multi-tiered deck and hot tub which we put to use everyday. Highly recommend!
This home is truly a lovely place for extended family, including your doggies. We had so much fun and spent some great time together as a family. The dock fit our rented boat and jet skis perfectly and the 4 bedrooms were great - including the one that is separate from the rest for some privacy. Will definitely stay here again!
Great views, beautiful deck to stare at them, one of the best spots on the lake! Thanks!

We had the BEST stay. Beautiful home, beautiful views. Such a relaxing getaway. We brought the pontoon boat, enjoyed the views, and the dock was perfect for our picnic. Great kitchen, bedrooms were perfect. Would not have asked for a better host.

Thank you for your lovely review. Folks have told me over and over again that we have the best view on the lake. I am so glad you all enjoyed your stay. Please return anytime, you were great guests.
We could not have asked for anything to be better than it was for our family vacation! The weather, home, lake, and having family around the table for every meal made this family vacation memorable and enjoyable beyond measure! Thank you, Alicia! We will be back!
The property was just as listed and more! The location was perfect with its “No Wake” cove so the kids could paddle board and swim safely. We enjoyed sitting down at the boat dock every night, it was so beautiful. My whole family had an amazing time.

Liked: Check-in, communication
Disliked: Cleanliness
The host provided timely communication, and accommodated an early check in request. The home and its cleanliness fell far short of our expectations. Bugs, dirty coffee maker (still coffee in the pot), trash in the trash can, dirty grill (which we did not use), a hot tub that smelled of mildew and old water, and looking under dressers / etc to ensure the kids didn’t leave anything…well let’s just say there’s cleaning to do…were the main culprits. You can tell from the pictures, the house is really old (but it certainly has a lot of character), and in general the linens / mattresses / bedding materials seem to be at or past their useful life. As small example, I had a king size pillowcase and a tiny “pancake” for a pillow that didn’t fill 25% of the case. My son slept on a twin bed that had mattresses and toppers stacked on top of each other. While the description does say the house sits above 11 other homes, or something to that effect. I found the online pictures very deceiving. There is a road and at least three homes effectively in the backyard of this property. My search parameters were “lakefront”…and how this home sits / is positioned isn’t my definition of lake front. I’d personally consider it lake view. The windows on the back of the house and the porch are amazing. Unfortunately though, there weren’t window treatments/blinds in the living room / dining / kitchen area, making it uncomfortable to walk around after dark…particularly for my wife and daughter.

I’ve been renting my home for over 45 years and on VRBO since 2005, consistently maintaining excellent reviews (98.5% 5-star) with many repeat guests. I take pride in providing a positive experience and appreciate all feedback. I’m glad I could accommodate an early check-in for your stay and would like to clarify a few points:
Location: The listing clearly states the home is positioned on a hillside above other properties, and photos reflect this. While there are homes below, the layout and landscaping are designed to maintain privacy and maximize lake views—often described by guests as exceptional and among the best on the lake. Guests have not reported disturbances and often enjoy socializing.
Hot Tub: The water was changed two weeks prior and treated with a mineral system (Frog) to reduce chlorine odor. The tub had not been opened in the past two weeks, which may have affected the initial smell.
Cleanliness & Items Noted: A deep seasonal clean and professional window/sill service were scheduled for that week. I did not clean under furniture knowing this was upcoming. I vacuumed thoroughly and left the home clean, though I missed taking out the recycled trash. As discussed, my handyman used and rinsed the coffee pot after I left.
Beds & Linens: The primary mattress is new (07/2025), one queen is three years old, and others have seen light use. Toppers are available based on guest preference.
We had a wonderful time in this gracious, lovely home with its beautiful view of the tranquil lake and mountains. The owners are incredibly available and responsive. As this is one of their residences it is fully equipped with top notch details, from kitchen to hot tub to sound system. We highly recommend this property!

Lovely Memorial Day Weekend
We couldn't have enjoyed this more. Fantastic view of a quiet part of the lake, private docks where we tied up the boats the owner rented to us, and all of that in a wooded neighborhood perfect for long walks, and a beautifully and comfortably furnished house with a very well-stocked kitchen -- we and the dog loved it!

About the host
Hosted by Alicia Yowell
Greg and I love our house and location. We love to swim, boat, golf, fish and spend our days reading on the dock or deck... life is good!
Why they chose this property
We purchased our home in 1983 and have just loved vacationing with our children over the years at our home. It is one of most magical spots on the lake. The views are just breathtaking. We think we have the most beautiful view on the lake
What makes this property unique
Beautiful mile plus country road runs throughout our community, perfect for walking/running. Hardwoods woods throughout and very little traffic. Mountain biking just a mile away and beautiful;l shoreline walking trails at Smith Mountain Lake Park, just ten minutes away. For the more serious hike, the Blue Ridge Mountains is just one hour from the house, home to many nature trails or hike up Peaks of Otter Mountain and enjoy a picnic lunch along a stream or at the quaint restaurant.
One of three no wake coves on the lake. Ours is the largest, perfect for kayaking, paddle board or canoeing. We rent all three types of boats for $75.00 each.
We have four bedrooms with one located on the lower level. It has a full bath, queen bed with a TV. You can access this room only from going down the steps from the deck. It is completely private and guests have had to toss a coin to see who gets this charming, private bedroom. It is in demand.
We have a king sleep by numbers bed in the master bedroom with an oversized master shower that is stunning. We also have a queen bedroom and a twin.
