About this property

Your private cove awaits! Recharge and reconnect on Lake Tillery.

Birch, please! is clean, quiet and ideally-situated between city amenities and Uwharrie trails. A tree-mendous property you will be re-leafed to find. A re-tree-t you would be stumped to find better. When you leaf us, you'll pine. We might be a-corny, but ash anyone, we're very poplar. But seriously....

Enjoy hot tub, ample parking, full-sized laundry, free wifi and streaming and a fenced yard at your home-away-from-home. Unplug on the water with kayaks, pedal boat and floating. Unplug on land with yard games, books and puzzles and gardens for contemplation. We are a forest-inspired space, with natural textures and elements and particular emphasis on the white birch.

Sunny basement walk out in shared building boasts a modern kitchen with brand new AC, full-sized electric range, microwave and dishwasher. The entire downstairs and fenced yard is yours, and private. Just minutes to trail heads (Uwharrie 5 miles, Morrow 6.8 miles) or watch deer, birds and beaver from your own patio. Enjoy twinkling light show as you relax in the covered hot tub. Hot tub pH and chemical balancing performed weekly with near religious zeal.
Hoses provided to clean off your mountain bikes, OVH rides and muddy boots after a fun day shredding trail.
And if you prefer more genteel activities, we are only a few miles away from local vineyards, brewpubs, restaurants and the Albemarle social district.

We have over 160 feet of lake shore at the end of a cove. Five kayaks, a 5-person pedal boat, PFD in various sizes and inner tubes provided. Pontoon and bass boats usually fit at the dock. Lot is gently sloped, with no stairs or cliffs to navigate like elsewhere on the lake. Host feeds fish each night. Feel free to join in!

Ample parking just steps to your private entrance. Exterior video security ensures your vehicle and personal safety. The suite has a few stairs to enter. Inside is one level, but not wheelchair accessible.
No smoking anything, anywhere on property strictly enforced.

Yes, the entire place is private, but we share a roof. The entire downstairs is yours, but it’s bright and well-lit, not a basement. So yes, the owner might be on site, but you never have to see me. We don’t share anything but the dock, and I avoid it if you’re using it. Again, sunny walk out/ first floor apartment.

Your pets are always welcome. Small fee per night for extra cleaning required. I don’t want to be one of those places that fees you for everything, but pets are special and when I travel with my fur-babies I expect this. Documented service animals always welcome at no charge. ESA must be under control at all times, never left alone and be fully house broken. Failure to comply will result in forfeiture of deposit and reporting to hosting platforms for fraud.

Special note about holiday bookings: New Years, Christmas, Labour Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Thanksgiving, Valentines Day holidays will have a STRICT cancelation policy. You will be notified before booking that your request falls into this category.

We try to stagger all maintenance and lawn care between guests to optimize the tranquility of the suite. Depending on weather, length of stay and random luck, some routines may have to be conducted while you are visiting (weekly hot tub test for instance). If we have to intrude on your space in any way, we promise to give ample warning. In case of lawn maintenance, we attempt to get it all done while you are out exploring the area. This is not always possible and may result in a short period of noise. Thanks for understanding.

Relaxing and Perfect!

Thoroughly enjoyed the property. Loved relaxing on the porch & dock swings. Took advantage of the hot tube in the evenings & the paddle boat/kayak during the day.. Perfect size kitchen, bath & common area to enjoy games & meals (we cooked!) The property was well stocked including food to feed the fish on the dock. The owner was tentative & had everything available should needed. Would highly recommend!!

Lovely Mid-week Getaway

Lovely stay at Birch, please! We brought our own paddle boards and stayed most of the day on the lake which could not be more accessible from the house. We loved the touches of whimsy in the decor and yard. The dock is an extremely pleasant place to hang out. Beds are comfortable and despite the owner being above you, everything was very quiet as promised. The lake itself was also very quiet with little boat traffic, which makes is perfect for kayaking and paddle boarding. We will definitely come again!

Great getaway

My family really enjoyed our last minute winter getaway to Birch, Please. Lynn was great - being flexible with my changing plans for our dog, giving us a heads up about what to expect with winter weather, and generally providing a super welcoming place. There are lots of great touches, and we felt really at home. The dock and lake are great. We really enjoyed the hot tub, given that we stayed during an ice storm! There's even a nice hill for sledding. All in all an excellent getaway, and we hope to come back sometime to experience it in warm weather.

complete package

Lynn is very thoughtful, thorough, responsive, professional AND friendly. She even had ice cubes in Tristan's dog dish upon our arrival! Hot tub was GREAT---as was the kayaking opportunity which my wife took advantage of. Very clean, all appliances worked---including the smoke alarm (that way we knew when dinner was ready!) Loved the fenced in yard for Tristan. Quiet, safe neighborhood. very serene and peaceful.

Peaceful getaway

“Birch, Please!”, was a great place to stay for a few days of R&R with my teenage son. While we didn’t totally unplug; we were able to spend some quality time together. While he preferred to be indoors, I preferred to sit out on the dock or in the swing and read - and we both took advantage of the available kayaks! The hot tub was also a great way to loosen tight muscles and just relax. Lynn really does a great job of making you feel welcome! I would definitely stay here again, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet lakeside escape!

Lovely basement apartment

We enjoyed our stay in this lovely basement apartment. The owners were present and very friendly. The lake, kayaks, fire pit and hot tub were nice perks. It was a short drive to wineries, hiking and restaurants. Note, the second bedroom has no door but there is a curtain for privacy. Also, bring your own grill if you want to cook out. We were very pleased to be able to bring our dogs, who were able to browse around off leash in the small fenced in area. Nice getaway!

Hiking, Kayaking, Chilling

I'll start by saying that Lynn is the coolest host we have ever had. She left some great touches to enhance the stay, Welcome notes, snacks, even some food for us to feed the fish. The house was clean, the kitchen well stocked and the whole place was warmly decorated. We took advantage of the kayaks and spent some hours on Lake Tillery. The backyard/dock were great quiet places to hang out. We did some fishing (no catching) and chilled with good reads -The relaxation we were seeking. The hot tub was very nice after our hikes in Uwharrie. plenty to do in the area - hiking, kayaking, wineries, some great local BBQ joints. Great Stay. Thanks Lynn!

Nebraska to North Carolina

We stayed here for one week the latter part of April as part of celebrating my wife's birthday and to just get away from the office. Lynn knew it was my wife's birthday and when we got there she had a bottle of wine and special message waiting for us which was a very nice touch. We were quite happy with the location and the place was awesome. We took advantage of the kayaks almost every day as the weather was perfect and the lake area is beautiful.. We highly recommend doing this if you stay here. The place itself is in a secluded area; it was quiet and peaceful; and just enjoyed getting up everyday, soaking in the hot tub, and relaxing. This was truly one of our best rentals through VRBO and would not hesitate to come back. Thanks a bunch Lynn-you are a great host.

if u want to swim in the lake don’t go here

if you were thinking about bringing tubes or rafts and floating in the lake and chilling out by the docks, that is a big no, there’s about a foot of water and is full of sticks and algae. Very disappointing.

The perfect oasis for quiet comfort.

After an exhausting year of constantly being on-the-go (for reasons beyond our control), we needed to get away for a rest and to re-group. "Birch Please" was the perfect spot, and our little dog, Ellie, was able to accompany us on this adventure. We enjoyed fishing and just hanging out at the dock, walking the lovely grounds, relaxing in the hot tub and exploring the area. Lynn is an amazing hostess - she thinks of everything her guests could possibly want or need. She made herself readily available to answer any questions or concerns; otherwise, we had complete privacy. The light, bright accommodations are spacious, clean, modern and beautifully decorated. We will definitely consider returning to "Birch Please" at Lake Tillery in the future, and in the meantime, we will highly recommend it to others. Thanks again, Lynn, for all you did to make our visit, and Dean's birthday, perfect! Sincerely, Susan, Dean and Ellie

Quiet retreat

The property by the lake is beautiful, and the hosts have everything that you need. We were greeted warmly upon arrival. It was a great getaway for our family with two teens, plus our 2 dogs. My nearly 13-year-old daughter really appreciated the fairy gardens and all of the flowers. My 16-year-old son enjoyed sitting on the swing on the dock and the frisbee golf. We were invited to pick fresh kale and spinach from the vegetable garden and took advantage of that. My husband and I enjoyed relaxing in the screened in hot tub, as the weekend was full of rain. We did get out the kayaks once to venture out a little ways into the lake, and would have spent more time if the rain would have let up more. I appreciated the fine details to the decor of the home, everything was newly updated and organized. I would highly recommend this property.

Uniquely Perfect

It's only been a few days since we left, and we're already talking about a future stay! The accommodations and overall setting were as perfect as they appear in the photos (although, more spacious than I expected), but what can't be captured until you're fortunate enough to stay at "Birch, please" are all of the unique and artistic touches throughout the interior and exterior. I continued to discover these up until we were packing to leave! The dock swing and hot tub were our favorite spots, but I honestly adored it all. I also appreciated all of the quirkiness and humor tied into the notes Lynn provided within the home. Communication was top notch! We felt so welcomed that it was difficult to leave. It's the perfect setting to enjoy with your significant other, but I think we'll bring our sons along next time, because they would love feeding the fish (with the provided fish food) and exploring on the peddle boat. There's also some great restaurants and attractions within the area. Lynn practically had her very own visitors center to encourage a bit of exploration if you weren't completely content just lounging around and enjoying the uniquely perfect property.

About the host

Hosted by lynn hall

Host profile image
I'm an avid explorer and can be as happy in my back yard as on the other side of the planet. I love natural spaces and spend all time possible outdoors - preferably on sun-dappled trails. Becoming a host seems natural because I have benefited so deeply from others' hospitality. I built, decorated, manage and even clean this property. In fact, I live upstairs. I will probably not be home during your stay, but I am always available.

Why they chose this property

I've lived in several provinces and states, and have visited every continent. I love to wander. This location struck me as special from the first time I saw it. Come share the house and see for yourself! The whole first floor is yours.
I designed the space in recognition of the solitude and beauty of a northern birch forest. It is far too warm to grow the bright white trees here, so I "imported" my own through wall art. As much as I love nature, I know guests need a designated WiFi connection, huge smart TV, down duvets, natural light, lots of space, full-sized washer and dryer and real crystal champagne flutes. A little glamor with your nature! You can have both here: proximity to the real world and a quiet retreat until then.

What makes this property unique

The property sits at the confluence of three little rivers, just as it sits at a unique confluence of amenities. I am surrounded by a small town, a state park, a National Forest and you can get to mountains, the beach or a major airport in a couple hours.
Unlike so many properties on Lake Tillery, it is quiet and set apart from the neighbours. It is across from a conservation area, so more trees to look at than houses. It gently slopes to a quiet cove so you won't have the constant inundation of noisy engines.
Have a camp fire. Feed the turtles and birds. Watch the bunnies. Take a hike. This is where you recharge and reconnect.
