About this property

Quiet location in a very nice village close to the Edersee

The holiday home El Refugio is located on the edge of the Edersee / Kellerwald National Park in the beautiful village of Königshagen with around 200 inhabitants in the municipality of Edertal. Deciduous deciduous forests extend almost exclusively to the northern hemisphere. However, the European beech only occurs in Europe. This dominance has developed within a few millennia since the last ice age - an extremely short period of time, geologically and evolutionarily. These trees, the 100-year-old Edersee with its dam, which dates back to the imperial period, and countless green hiking trails can be found in the immediate vicinity by the guests of the holiday home. The national park is the ideal destination for nature lovers. A paradise for hikers, whether on foot or by bike - the entire area enchants every visitor. But the town of Königshagen also has everything a historic half-timbered village has to offer - attractive historical places, village fountains, romantic resting places and barbecues and houses that take visitors to another world. The village of Königshagen was first mentioned in 1209. The Fritzlaer Peterstift owned two fiefdoms in Königshagen. The first reference to a noble family is from 1295. The noble court of those of Kunigeshain may have stood on the northern edge on the parcel "Auf den Höfe" of today's village. The Leineweber village belonged to the county or the principality of Waldeck until 1919. In just a few minutes by car you are also in Waldeck, a very beautiful half-timbered town on the third largest reservoir in Germany. Above the Edersee is the Waldeck Castle, first mentioned in 1120. If you sit here in the cafe-restaurant, you can enjoy a fantastic view of most of the Edersee. The church in Königshagen is also historic, just a few meters from our holiday home. The foundations of the old nave probably date from the 13th or 14th. Century. The mighty church tower, built of quarry stones, is the oldest building in Königshagen. It dates from the 14th or 15th Century. In the "Handbook of German Art Monuments" (Dehio) he is described as late medieval. Its creation is conceivable in connection with the presumed free court of a noble family on the northern outskirts of the village; in a document from 1295 the "Domina de Cunygeshagen" (Mistress of Königshagen) is mentioned. Our listed holiday home is of course not quite that old. It dates from 1835 and is certainly one of the most attractive buildings in the village. However, El Refugio has a peculiarity. A modern new building is directly connected to the historical half-timbered building by a small transition. This was only possible because there was a residential building here earlier, but it had collapsed due to dilapidation and it did not seem sensible to rebuild it. However, the monument protection authority has approved a new building with conditions and so the guests of this holiday home have the opportunity to easily move from one century to another. That was also the reason why we decided to buy the old historical half-timbered house. This combination of modernity and romance makes the house unique. The renovation and the new building came in the end twice as expensive as planned and even with very good occupancy and reasonably acceptable rental terms, the house will certainly not pay off in the next 10/15 years. You can call it self-realization by the owner. But that is exactly the decisive advantage for our guests. Look at the photos and you will be amazed. You have to search for a long time before you can find a comparable holiday home in this area. However, it cannot yet be guaranteed (January 2018) whether the front garden in front of the house will be ready this year. Even if that were not the case, it would not harm vacationers.

Last but not least: if you are interested in other attractive objects at a later date, then visit our captain's house Huus Grymersum not far from Greetsiel on the North Sea apartment no .: 516718 or our holiday home Huus Gode Tied in Grimersum on the North Sea apartment no .: 2456609 or our apartment Coco der Mer in Wieck on the Darß apartment no. 517975 or abroad our holiday home in Kás, Turkey, with direct access to the sea.
