The cabin was very nice, clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cookware. Ample supply of bath and kitchen towels . Close to public boat launch. The owners were very nice.
Very nice property on Ash Lake. Owner very responsive and helpful. We have stayed here many times and really enjoy it. Nice upgrades to washer dryer and beds since our last visit.
It was a beautiful week when we stayed. This has been the 4th year we have stayed here and the fishing has been awesome and the cabin always clean at a very reasonable rate for what you get. Book early because this is a diamond of the north.
We stayed here while visiting Voyageurs and it was perfect for our family. We enjoyed swimming and kayaking in the lake, and I was even able to photograph the northern lights from the yard one night. Thanks!
Super cozy and super clean! We enjoyed our stay and would most definitely come back. Communication with owners was very responsive and helped with any issues we had. Thanks for allowing us to stay!
Beautiful and secluded location overlooking Ash lake. The leaves were turning colors and we saw the northern lights. Spectacular! The cabin had everything we needed for our autumn getaway!
Thank you so much Randy and Cathy! Our stay was wonderful! Your efforts to make us feel at home was so appreciated! The cabin was lovely ( nice and clean), the fishing was awesome( my boys caught so many I lost count) and the setting could not have been more perfect(quite and peaceful, with the exception of a few trains)! We are all looking forward to our next visit!
Highly recommend for any family looking for a north woods get away!

Thank you for staying, we love knowing other families have enjoyed the property as we have over the years.
This cabin was perfect for our family. It is right on a lake that was not busy at all. The fire pit allowed us to have an all-day fire and simply enjoyed our time. The water level was too low to get the boats out so that was a bummer but we enjoyed the kayaks. The regular trains that went by actually created a reminder that we were not so secluded. We had a great time!
This was our second year staying here and it’s awesome. Great location, fishing was a little slower this year but I think the extreme heat and a cold front at the end of the week played a part. We still caught 3 meals of fish, daughter caught a real nice 21” walleye and some real slabber sunnies! My wife, 15 year old daughter, my mother and mother in law were all very comfortable and made some great memories. Planning on returning next year!!!😊
Very nice little guest cabin tucked in the woods. Option to rent the boat they have or not, which helped us out a lot for keeping our daily options open on where and when we wanted to fish. My only complaint is the pontoon died several times out in the water but good news is that it always restarted for us after a bit. I did have to jump in the water to avoid hitting one shoreline, but after it died that last time, we fished for awhile and didn’t turn it off again until we were back at the boat dock a few hours later. No other problems beyond that. Great place overall.
The cabin is very nice and is a comfortable cozy place, highly recommend.
Really nice to be surrounded by a well decorated and appealing building structure.
Everything is there.
Only items to address would be a working fan or air conditioner upstairs as shown in the image. But the temp was fine for us in July. And the internet was not working but I don't use that anyways.
And a few minor door and window maintenance issues to address.

Nice Place, Cleaning People, Not Efficient!!
Outside appearance looks great. Bathroom had hair in the sink. Air conditioner was not installed properly and we swatted mosquitos for 2 nights. Fireplace doesn't work and heat is controlled by owner remotely. Had a couple mice running around the cabin, caught 1. Nice place, just needs some more attention to detail!!!

People visiting our cabin up north from the cities see the modern design, air conditions, satellite TV, remote heat option (that is simply controlled with the thermostat in hallway, fireplace switch on the wall) and assume city life up north in the middle of no where, there are bear on the property, deer, wolf and yes mosquitos and mice that find there way in. We spend over $200 a month for pest control because of the location however nature is in control. There are many luxuries of being this far north, Northern lights, beautiful skies, stars, fishing 50 feet from where you can sleep, but remember you are still up north in the wilderness.

Overall it was a great time, just quite a few disappointments
The property was beautiful! The views were amazing! It was nice and quiet (except the trains which can’t be avoided). It just needs some TLC and I would have gave it a higher rating. The patio door was broken (from the reviews I was reading it’s been broken since 2020) the light above the dining room table did not work, some light bulbs were burnt out, the shower door leaked, outside maintenance wasn’t done until after we arrived, the fishing boat they advertise was unusable) even after someone “cleaned” the water out. The outside grill was a bit sketchy. But all in all we did have a great time fishing off the dock.
We loved this stay! We were fortunate to be able to book this for 17 days with our two sons and dogs. We enjoyed the beautiful lake kayaking, fishing, swimming, taking the pontoon out and ongoing use of the fishing boat. The property is completely remote, but then again the main road is not far to go wherever you wish to go on outings. We enjoyed traveling into to Canada just about an hour away, going to Cook's Country Connection (petting zoo), Voyageurs National Park (we saw a Grey Wolf there!), eating at a local restaurant in Orr and finding area parks to take our dogs. We also visited Ely, MN, and that was a great trip too! Visiting Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary is an absolute must - just awesome.
We grocery shopped a few times in Orr, Hibbing and Virginia, and this was fun to drive around to see Northern MN.
Overall, our hosts were wonderful, and we had everything we needed. We were completely impressed by how they had the home stocked with what we needed for the basics. Simply a wonderful vacation for a quiet getaway. I brought a screened in pod as well and was able to really enjoy reading outside too a little safer from the mosquitoes! We also had a black bear visit every now and again. We read up on bear safety, and this gave us plenty to talk about during our trip!
Thanks to the hosts so much for sharing their home with us. We really enjoyed chatting with both Randy and Cathy!

About the host
Hosted by Randy & Cathy Teinert
My wife and I moved to Minnesota in 1992, continued growing our family to 3 hard working boys that will someday take care of this place.
Why they chose this property
While on vacation to Lake Kabatogama we fell in love with the area, found a property that had been for sale for over 10 years, bought and started building our dream vacation home. This is a guest house next to the main cabin, built to share with our friends and guest to enjoy as much as we have.
What makes this property unique
Lots of room with river and lake view from every window, very private.
