Four days in Villefranche de Conflent

We enjoyed our stay in this clean, modern, stylish flat in a medieval walled village. You can explore the town ramparts and the Liberia fort on the hillside above, and walk to the train station to catch the Little Yellow Train which has open air carriages and travels into the mountains, over bridges and viaducts. Vernet le Bains, the next village on the bus route, is a good starting point for hiking in beautiful pine and oak woods (route details available from the tourist information office). Christophe, the owner, was friendly and communication at the start and end was excellent so collecting and dropping off keys was straightforward. There is a small tabac in town and an excellent boylangerie, and several restaurants.The street is busy with tourists in the day but very quiet from late evening onwards. Look out for the friendly witches!
