The old cinder block building has a long history of uses, including a chinchilla hut, garage, and music studio, before it was remodeled to a vacation rental in January 2021. The larger bedroom features a queen-size bed, the smaller bedroom a twin-size bunk bed, and the living room a double-size futon couch. BaseCamp can accommodate six people total. We’ve stocked the kitchen with everything you need including a few basic staple items like coffee and tea, flour and sugar. BaseCamp has free wi-fi, Roku TV, and the capability for online movie streaming.
We built the vacation home with practical, outdoor enthusiasts in mind; it’s small and simple but rustic and cozy. Just off Highway 330 and about a mile outside the town of Collbran, BaseCamp is a convenient starting point for all of your outdoor activities. You'll have full and private access to BaseCamp during your stay. Most Collbran businesses close by 8 pm, so if you arrive late, bring necessary food and supplies with you.
We welcome house trained and well behaved pets (maximum 2) that like to sleep in their own beds on the floor. We provide pet bowls and sheets; please bring your own pet bed, food, and other supplies.
The first two hours of cleaning are included in your nightly rate. If additional cleaning time is needed after checkout, a fee of $25 per hour will apply.
We will send you a reservation confirmation message shortly after you book your stay, and we will send you directions to Basecamp either the day before or the day of your arrival. If you make your reservation through Expedia, please check your VRBO account and/or email for our messages. Sometimes these messages go to your junk mail, so please check your spam folder if you haven't heard from us!
If you prefer a vacation rental that is a bit more mountainous or an experience a little more rugged, we have three other vacation rentals that might suit your needs. One is a guest room built in a silo (The Silo), another is a hundred-year-old cabin (The Stagecoach Cabin), and the other is a quonset hut and sheep wagon (Steel and Wool Sheep Camp). All are listed on VRBO.

Everything was exactly as described and more! We had forgotten a couple of things, but they had them available there at the cabin. It was a great stay, very peaceful! Highly recommend.
Very peaceful stay. Such a cute little place to relax and enjoy for a few days. Very close to a lot of great fishing, hiking, etc.
We will definitely be back!
Used base camp as our evening lodging while spending time at Vega Reservoir with family. It was cozy and cute and provided more than what we needed for our stay!
The Base Camp is a perfect little getaway location. The property is beautiful!!! Home was clean and cozy...it was everything I wanted it to be. A perfect short trip with my kids before we start our homeschool year.
The mountain passes were closed on our original check in date and the host was accommodating and let us push our reservation back one day so we still got the full time. A great little cabin and 100% worth the price. In the check in binder there’s a menu for a pizza place down the street that has cinnamon pretzels that are 10/10 would drive the five hours again just for those. It was clean and a perfect retreat
This is the second time I've stayed here, as the location is convenient to my purpose for coming, and the cabin is equipped with a livingroom, 2 bedrooms, and a kitchen. We found it to be a good fit for our family of 5. We DID have some trouble getting up the slight incline of the driveway and onto the main road, as there was snow and ice, but Clint came out asap to bring us some "ice melt pellets". Communication has always been quick! I mentioned it in my previous review, and I'll mentjon it again here... the bathroom is very small. Like, if you are a larger girth person, you will find using the toilet and the shower to be very very difficult. I know it's not something that can be changed, short of a remodel, but it was definitely noted. Last thing of note is that the water pipe to refill the toilet and bring water to the shower, froze, as it was -8 overnight and it runs along the outside wall. If it's going to be that cold during your stay, I would suggest checking in with Clint and Pam on what can be done to keep it from freezing. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in the Plateau Valley, and would stay here again.
This little cabin was so cute and perfect for our hunting trip. I loved that it came furnished with everything we could need for cookware and definitely had a home like feel.
The Basecamp is built beautifully and is very comfortable. The coolest feature to me was the back door that is a barn door. In the morning we would open up top half, have coffee, and watch the horses in the back pasture. The camp was clean and spacious. Just a heads up the queen bed was to firm for me but still slept comfortably. It’s close enough to Grand Junction to grab stuff but far enough away not to be city. The back road drive to Cedar-ridge is phenomenally great. Over all I would recommend this property to anyone. And definitely will be staying there again.
