About this property

Shalom Retreat.

Enjoy a stay in the cottage in the big woods! The lane leading to it winds a half mile back from the road. This place will be a highlight because of everything from the spacious yard surrounded with woods, kitchen fully stocked with dishes, open, cozy living room and cute bedrooms. It is a family friendly place including a Foosball table, board games and toys. Also has a picnic table and backyard fire pit (firewood included) or you can choose to grill your favorites on the covered back porch. This cottage is only 30 minutes from Granite Peak, Rib Mountain, Wausau, and Cedar Rapids. It’s in a friendly, small neighborhood. Ice Age trail access points are within a couple miles. Only 7 miles away from Birnamwood, which includes a gas station, Dollar General, and Chet and Emil's which has a restuarant and bowling. Chet and Emil's have made Birnamwood famous for their broasted chicken. Only a 12 minute drive from Norrie Lake and Mayflower Lake which provides boating, fishing and swimming options. The Plover River (a trout stocked river) winds thru the woods behind the house in the DNR land. Also including a spring fed pond. Or enjoy the Mountain Bay biking trail which is only 7 miles from Shalom Retreat. The Eau Claire Dells Park is only 6 miles away where you can hike, swim, and enjoy the outdoors. For a winter activity, visit Sylvan Hill in Wausau for some great family snow tubing! Also Granite Peak for snowboarding and skiing! Comfortable & well-stocked

The property is private and beautiful. We loved all the soft blankets and the coffee bar. We found everything that we needed in the kitchen and enjoyed the back yard. The house was very clean and well-stocked. Thank you for providing everything that we needed and more! We will be back.

A great place to stay

Every year a group of my friends rent this place to spend a weekend playing board games and D&D, and it's always well maintained and comfortable.

January Ski Trip

This property was great for a decent sized group. The only issue is that it is far from town, but the drive to Granite peak isn’t too bad. Overall, a great property!

Lovely Getaway Space

This home was even cuter in person than in the pictures! It was very easy to check in/check out and there was enough space for our family of 5. The kids liked having their own rooms and played with some of the board games. They also had fun exploring the woods. It was very close to the location where we went skiing, so it was an easy commute to and from.

Great Place

We're a group of friends that now live all over the state, and every fall we get together for a weekend to hang out and play board games. We've stayed here a couple of times, and it's been great whenever we have.

Great place

We spent one night here after attending the Birds in Art exhibit at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau (great show!). We didn't arrive until well after dark, but it was relatively easy to find if you pay attention to the house signs. Easy to access, well stocked, comfortable beds, big kitchen table, coffee in the morning. Everything was great - we would definitely stay here again.

Great getaway

Perfect for my sister and I to meet with our families so we could celebrate a belated Christmas! Plenty of room to gather. Kitchen had everything we needed for dishes and glassware- coffee bar a bonus for coffee and hot chocolate in the morning. I would definitely go back!

Great spot for a quiet stay

We were in town to visit family and this was a great option for three generations to be under one roof! The yard provided lots of fun for badminton and watching wild life. Plenty of toys for our 11 month old! The house had great amenities and the linens were so soft! Location was great - close to the Eau Claire Dells and just a short drive to Wausau. The host was quick to respond and very kind. We'll definitely be staying here again on our next visit!

Very nice

Our family stayed there over a weekend. It’s a lovely and clean home. The owners made sure that everything that we could possibly need is there. They also left clear instructions on how to check out. The house is surrounded by beautiful nature. We enjoyed our stay there and would like to come back in the future.

Great getaway with teenagers!

The property was perfect for my spouse, our teenage son and some of his friends, and our dog! The boys had planned to tent in the yard for all four nights of our stay, but due to rainstorms, they slept in the cabin for two. There was plenty of space for this. The boys also enjoyed the yard games and making campfires, while my spouse and I enjoyed the serenity of the setting. Everything was clean and organized, and we had everything we needed. We'd definitely stay again!

Family Get a way

It has been many, many years since our family has been able to get together. Our goal was just to relax and that was accomplished here. The cabin was clean. TV reception was good which came in handy for the Bucks game!! Loved the covered porch. We were able to sit outside even when it rained. There are a few minor suggestions: The kitchen could use a few more supplies( serving bowls, more pots & pans, measuring cups) We were visited by a stray dog on a few occasions. This might cause issues with kids, people who are afraid, dogs that are staying on the property and guests backing cars out, etc. Grass needed to be cut.
