Enjoy the use of the lakeside pier, canoes, kayaks, paddle board, BBQ, fire pits, laundry room, etc. -Make use of the WiFi and entertainment system when you're not out on the lake adventuring or hiking nearby trails enjoying the fresh air. -There is one gravel driveway with parking areas that can hold 6+ cars and trailers if needed.
SOME NOTES ABOUT THE NORTHWOODS: - This is in the forests and you will likely see bugs, mice, bats or furry critters (including bears!). We do maintain the property with regular pest control, but due to the surroundings, or if doors are left open, or food is left outside the house, this can attract critters. - There are no refunds for storms or power outages. If there is a power outage, there will be no water and potentially no heat for a short term. The generator is available.
PLEASE NOTE: -Summer Guests The absence of modern air conditioning can enhance the rustic charm and authenticity of a log cabin experience. Log cabins are known for their excellent insulation properties, naturally keeping the cabin cooler in the summer. Opening the windows at night to let in the cool air is a smart way to maintain comfort and enjoy the natural breeze and sounds of the outdoors. -Fall/Winter Please understand, that winters are very cold in Northern Wisconsin. Our log home is large with 35-foot ceilings. It can feel drafty at times and when the temperatures drop the furnaces have a hard time keeping up. We cannot fulfil requests to keep the cabin at temperatures above 70 degrees. Prepare for Wisconsin winters.
- The lodge has delicious-tasting well-water - Cell phone service is spotty for some in the area, so download the maps offline before arriving. Overall, the Cast Iron Lodge provides a luxurious and serene setting for those looking to enjoy northern Wisconsin's natural beauty and recreational opportunities.

Amenities were great and the whole group loved the place and the fishing. The lake is gigantic which I wasn’t expecting so that was a pleasant surprise in itself. The cottage is a super sweet stay and I’d highly recommend. It was incredible in February for us, I can only imagine it in the spring and summer months.

The lodge was absolutely stunning, everyone loved their sleeping accommodations. We loved all the attention to detail that the lodge had from the hosts including all the kitchen utensils down to the little water cans on the bunk beds and the luxury bathrobe and linens in the master bath. The accessibility to the kayaks and canoes we also do much fun! We literally had the best weekend ever here! The hosts were absolutely incredible with communication throughout our stay. Absolutely 10/10 experience, my family will definitely be back!

This property was fantastic, and better than descried. It’s a beautiful log home on a great lake with log architecture throughout that brings you into the woods. We spent our time on the lake, jet skiing, swimming, tubing and fishing. Kids loved watching the eagles while having evening campfires as the sunset. Thank you Matt

Fantastic lodge on a beautiful lake for a family reunion!
Tremendous family memories were made the last two weeks staying at Cast Iron Lodge on Lac Vieux Desert!! The lodge’s interior and exterior spaces are spacious, well designed so that my family’s three generations of adults and children could gather, eat, play, and visit with ease. We loved canoeing, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing and mtn biking. We rented a pontoon from Rob and the kids and adults had a blast tubing and water skiing! Phil and Amandy were excellent hosts, answering any questions that we had in a timely fashion. I highly recommend a stay at Cast Iron Lodge!

We often gather as a family, but this was a first for fishing in Wisc. Some family members live in the area and we have not seen in years so they visited for a few hours one day. It was great for our 2 1/2 yr old to catch first fish. Weather was great and lodge was perfect for our group. Have fished in the area 60 yrs ago, so was a homecoming and the fish caught were very healthy, no grubs.

The house was large and spacious for our group of 17, ranging in age from 4 months to 64 years. The beach towels, games and children’s toys came in handy. Kitchen has a nice layout for several people to work together! Loved the beautiful wooden kitchen table! Water off pier was shallow for school age children. Would recommend water shoes for the rocky bottom. Quiet roads for walking or gravel cycling. Owners were great to work with. Would recommend for your large group of family or friends!

It was a pleasure to host you, Nancy! You're friendly and enthusiastic, but also very respectful of our place. Please contact us directly if you ever need a place in the area. You are welcome to book anytime! Safe travels! :)
The cabin is beautiful, set in a rustic and peaceful location; it’s even better in person than in the photos. The interior was cozy, well-designed, with lots of thoughtful touches. We weren’t able to enjoy the water due to the cold weather, but there’s clearly plenty to do when it’s warmer outside. The hosts were super responsive and very on top of things, which we really appreciated. That said, there was a bit of a push to add extras or reminders about potential fees, which felt a little out of place given the premium nature of the property. Also, we were informed at check-in that one of the showers was out of commission and we were not offered any type of alternative or refund. Not ideal for a group of 12, but also not the end of the world. Still, our weekend was amazing and just what we needed! Thanks Amandy & Phil!

Whenever one books a vacation rental, there’s always this nagging doubt that the marketing is maybe ways away from reality. In this case, it was, but as a pleasant surprise. This is a phenomenal property and was extremely comfortable for our party of 15 - 5 families. We had plenty of space, lots of amenities and the view was a million dollar view. The boat slip (and lift) was a really convenient amenity.
The best passer of the property was the location. Far away from traffic and crowds and nestled within mature green areas of a lakeside forest.
The response from the owners are really on point and we enjoyed corresponding with them. Overall highly recommend this rental.

We had 8 guys up for a weekend of snowmobiling and ice fishing. The place was awesome for some much needed recovery after we beat our bodies up on the trails.
The water pressure was amazing and the hot water seemed endless, I'm pretty sure they have a tankless water heater.
The driveway is long and could be difficult if you have a trailer. We had a 28' trailer behind a f250 (roughly 60') and did have a heck of a time turning it around near the house.
We had a blast and plan to use this rental as our Northwoods guys trip destination for years to come

The property was nice for our group of 11 family members. The house is spacious and well built, but the appliances are showing some age. Renters do not control the thermostat so prepare accordingly - we stayed in early summer and it was cool in the house. We recommend you make sure to bring bug spray/bracelets, bath and shower soap, toilet paper, napkins and paper towels, paper plates, garbage bags, dish soap and dishwasher pods (must use pods because as the owner pointed out to us, the dispenser in the dishwasher doesn’t work). We enjoyed the lake and fires in the fire pit at night. The dock was very nice. We had a great boat rental from Rob, recommended by the owner. Rob also provided firewood and went out of his way to provide us excellent customer service.

Jill,
Thank you for the review, however we would like to provide some clarity. It was discovered prior to your arrival the sliding door on the dishwasher soap dispenser had a small spring that broke causing issue with the soap door closing. As a result I simply stated to just throw the dishwasher pod in the dishwasher which certainly gets the job done just the same. So sorry but items do break and action had already been taken to order parts. Our appliances are very nice, the BOSCH dishwasher does work great.
We do provide thorough information to all guests upon booking along with pre arrival information. This house manual along with guidelines for the home clearly defines that we provide enough initial/starter supplies for your arrival which includes, dishwasher soap, laundry soap, garbage bags, paper towel, toilet paper, body wash, shampoo, conditioner.
We were unaware of any uncomfortable house temperatures. The house was around 70-73 degrees. I did make one trip to the house during your stay and there was no request for heat.
We are sure to tell all booking guests to please contact us directly at any time, if there is anything that they need prior or during their stay.
We attempt to make it very clear that all guests must read and understand all the information that was sent to them. I am sorry if some of this information remained unknown, we will take ownership of this and work harder to make sure all guests are indeed receiving and understanding the necessary information.

Beautiful home and fabulous lake
The home has plenty of room for a large group. At one time we had 9 adults and 6 children (ages 1 month - 10) and no one was feeling cramped. The bedrooms are very large and with only 2 on each floor there is spaciousness and privacy for all. There is an additional apartment over the garage which we didn't need but could have easily overflowed to that area. An open kitchen for cooking with all of the amenities you will need and plenty of room both inside and out for all to find seating to eat or just relax. Morning coffee was had on the large deck overlooking the lake.
Much time was spent on the lake soaking up the sun, jet skiing, pontooning, swimming, tubing and fishing. We found a large sandbar north of the property where we could anchor with the pontoon.
We saw 3 bald eagle nests, one of which what just to the east of the property, each with young ones that we witnessed being fed and practice their newfound flying skills. Mornings were spent listening to the loons calling as we sat on the deck.
The owner Matt or his agent David were easily accessible either by phone or email. Thank you Matt for allowing us to use your home for our family vacation!!

Liked: Check-in, location
The location of this home was wonderful and our family was very excited to have a quiet place to vacation. Unfortunately the listing and expectations presented were not what we arrived to. Many items in the home are in need of repair from rotting exterior steps, torn out screens, windows without openers (No AC so much needed), beds with broken supports and mattresses that need updating to a front door that can not be opened from the outside nor the inside if the removable latch is not perfectly positioned, broken basement exit door handle and screens, smelly master bedroom, basement is musty and does have a dehumidifier that we cleaned each day, missing lightbulbs, etc. The fishing dock is broken and on shore so not usable. The refrigerator had many broken parts and was not working correctly. The homeowner did have a new refrigerator delivered and the old fridge remained and was able to be used for veggies. Text messages from the homeowner were almost a daily occurance. Not our unplugged vacation expectation. If you are not renting the adjoining garage space/apartment, realize that other guests will also be sharing the space with you.Unfortunately this is not what was anticipated according to the listing, cost and the large list of do's and don'ts provided, discussed over a phone conference and mandatorily shared with all guests. We did not expect to be arriving at a party house. This is a property with a beautiful location and great potential that really needs some TLC.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We’re so glad your family enjoyed the beautiful location of the home—it really is a special setting for a lake vacation.
We also appreciate your detailed notes. Our home is a classic lake property, and like many lake houses, it does have some rustic charm. That said, we’re actively making updates: a brand-new refrigerator was delivered during your stay, and we’re continuing with improvements such as screens, steps, and light fixtures so guests will feel even more comfortable in the future.
We also wanted to clarify about the front door—it isn’t broken, but it does require pressing the small button right below the latch in order to open smoothly. We’ll be sure to highlight this in our welcome instructions so future guests won’t have any confusion.
As for communication, we always want guests to feel supported during their stay, which is why we check in, but we’ll make sure it feels helpful rather than overwhelming.
Our property is best suited for guests who enjoy a lively, family-friendly lake atmosphere with plenty of space to gather, rather than a fully unplugged or secluded retreat. We’re grateful you recognized the potential here, and we truly appreciate your input as we continue to enhance the experience.
