A very relaxing and quiet place
We enjoyed ourselves
Great location - perfect for visit to Mt Rainier, Alder Lake & surrounding areas! Cozy and clean lake house for family of 4. Kitchen was well stocked - we love a VRBO that allows spices, condiments & pantry items to be left for future guests. Bathroom was updated & provided lots of TP and laundry supplies. Beds were quite comfortable. Didn’t spend time on deck or dock, but the lake view was beautiful.
I stayed at this wonderful spot for a weekend wedding all the groomsmen got ready at the place and relax before the big day perfect spot on the lake for a relaxing weekend.
We enjoyed our stay. Very pleasant views of the lake and peaceful. The owner took care of us very well Thank You!!

Disliked: Check-in
Over all the Guppie Lake House was very peaceful. It seemed to have all the necessities that we needed. However, check-in was very frustrating. The door code wouldn't work. We couldn't contact the host in a timely manner. When we finally did get a response, we had already found deep into messages. How to access the house another way, very frustrating experience. And in the dark might I add. The house smells strongly of mold and mildew. We had to go in right away. And open everything up and freeze to death. So that the heaters weren't running full blast because the smell was just so overpowering, it seemed to be very clean, so I'm sure there's something going on with the structure to cause the mildew mold smell.Yhe house seems to be in good array. The deck, on the other hand, I wouldn't lean against the rail. It's definitely been neglected for quite some time. But the view is stunning. As was the wildlife we saw eagles, beavers. otters, you name it, it was gorgeous, so peaceful. So serene. If the smell wasn't so bad, we would have been able to enjoy our stay better. And unfortunately, we were quite busy. So we literally slept there showered and left every day. They also neglect in the listing, the extremely steep driveway, with absolutely zero way to turn around if you have anything bigger than a small SUV. And backing out of that driveway onto the main road is terrifying! It's so dangerous. I know it's the tiny things that can ruin it for a rental, but this house is cute!

Right after you made the booking, on March 23 I send you message informing you that I will be traveling during your stay and you just need to contact my cleaner and gave your her number too. Your difficulty to get access to the cottage could have been avoided - had you just called her and not waited for me to respond back or read the guest guide -- because that too mentions alternative way to enter.
Our listing description on VRBO clearly says "We have a steep gravel driveway with a curve at the end so no RV or trailers please" Also the guest guide has the pictures of the driveway. It is a shared driveway with the community of 5 homes - there is not much we can do about it. So if you fail to read thru things that is not on us. The place is not heated above 55 degree during long vacant periods- and that is to conserve energy. Guest guide mentions that too, and it says if you would like to get it heated before your arrival let us know 2 days in advance and we will ask the cleaner to increase the thermostat. It is a rural setting, we do take great pride in maintaining spotless clean interiors and a well stocked kitchen.

Stay at the Lake
Overall place was clean inside and well supplied with all you need outside in need of some cleaning up and general maintenance very quite and a peaceful place to stay
We had a great visit! The house was very clean and had a ton of kitchen stuff for us to use. Easy walk down to the water and dock. We will definitely plan on staying again!
This 1950s cottage has been updated and outfitted with just about everything for a sweet getaway. The deck overlooking the lake has a lovely table with a cover for a really hot afternoon. The dock and lake access make it easy to take a quick paddle around the lake.

Thank you for your kind words Dixie. Welcome back anytime!
A really nice spot right on the lake. The deck is a wonderful spot to enjoy the views of the water.
The cottage is small, but everyone should be spending most of their time on the lake or deck, so it’s a non issue
The water isn’t the most welcoming from the dock, so it’s best if you have a paddle board or a boat to do your swimming from the middle of the lake.
We went to a concert on Friday night at the white river ampitheatre and decided to make a weekend out of it. Instead of making the 2+ hour drive home after the show we drove just 45 minutes to this cute little lake cottage and spent the rest of the weekend relaxing! We had originally thought we would do some hiking around Mt.Rainer but the lake was so peaceful we never really left. We will save that for next time. We did hit NW Trek on our way home since it was only 15 minutes away from the property and we really enjoyed it.
This property was exactly what I was expecting. A nice lake house that's right off the water. There are a lot of other properties around the lake, but overall, it was very quiet and everyone had a great time. The inside of the house was very clean and everything worked. This whole area of Washington state has very hard water, so the water has a mild sulfur smell to it, but the property owners installed a filtration system and supplied a water filter jug in the fridge for drinking. We had no issue with the hardness of the water. My kids loved it and spent most of their time outside, but they also have movies and some televisions in the house. If what you're looking for is a quiet stay in a small house right off the water, then this is a great choice.
This is a great place for some families, but not for us. First, props for the creative Harry Potter room—very fun and well done. Other positives—the location feels far away but isn’t a long drive from the Seattle area, the inside was clean, and there were lots of toys, books & videos for younger kids.
But there were disappointments—admittedly, at least one of which was the result of us looking at a lot of listings and not paying as close attention to this one as we should have. But others, too. Our intention is to help future renters find the place that is great for them.
The downsides for us—no grill (the listing doesn’t say that there’s a grill, so it’s not hidden, but we were surprised that a place like this didn’t have one), the seating in the TV area is not comfy (formal arm chairs and a day bed without good back pillows), the outside areas were not well maintained/cleaned up, the kitchen was missing some basic items (like a cutting board…there was a small cheese-platter cutting board, but we couldn’t find an actual cutting board) while there were some neat and unexpected kitchen items (like a cool traditional salsa mortar and pestle (molcajete)), the dock isn’t a swimming dock, and there wasn’t a beach to speak of (just some dirt & weeds by a rock wall leading into the lake).
Overall, this is a lake cabin that seems to be an important place to this family. It’s nice for many that they share it, but it may not be for you.

Thank you for your comments, There is no grill because very often during summer months (which is when most guests come) there are fire bans by the local county -- for the risk of wild fires. Many past guest have enjoyed cooking over the open fire pit flame. Since that is not moveable -- we have provided a cooking grate for that -- which is allowed by the county. Talk to a fire fighter and you will understand more about what I am talking about. Glad that you liked the HP room. Landscape has been cleaned -- we have a landscaper come every quater sometimes she gets delayed. But we do not wish to spray any weed prevention --as we personally do not consider them safe for kids ( or adults too). Cutting board was there. It is a glass one. A plastic one has been shipped to cleaner and the property will be updated with the same. We will add more pillows to the living space too. There are extra in the drawers and inside coffee table.. We need the day bed for our extended family use -- so that is one feedback we are not able to address in this season. Potentially next season we will upgrade to a more comfy setup. Again much thanks for for comments.
If you are looking for a beautiful view of a small lake, a mountain range, views of Mount Rainer and solitude; this is the place for you.
