Our tipis are unapologetically authentic, Sioux style, with a smoke hole in the top. We have never tried to hide the fact that they are real or that they are canvas structures. We do our best to make them more like glamping and have prepared all of them with an ozan over the bed to keep guests dry. Guest expectations are sometimes that they are staying in a brick and mortar hotel room but but this is a camping experience and these are glorified tents with a smoke hole in the top. The fact that they only had a small leak during a major storm is positive feedback and we are doing our job.

It was clean. Felt like I could go through the floor at any minute. Wasp in the bathroom. Also felt like I could go through that. Bathroom door was difficult to open.
Johnny and his family are amazing... we slept like the dead. Unplugging from our devices was both uncomfortable and rewarding. We will definitely be back!

It was an amazing getaway if you are looking to unplug from the world. The ground were beautiful. The only issue we had was no phone service. However the owner was great and the place was really cute.

Many mountains not worth it
Our friends got a hotel due to this tipi being molded ..the smell was horrible, this should not have been available for guests.
We stayed at Arrowhead Tipi resort over the weekend and this location is breathtaking! I’ve only seen glamping like this in magazines! Johnny (the host) was super friendly, communicated exceptionally well, made sure we had everything we needed and more. The outdoor area was stocked with games for the kids and misters to keep us cool. I have already recommended to all my friends!! This experience was unforgettable and we will be returning soon!

Mr Maldonado was at our resort less than 5 minutes prior to calling and starting to insult us and our place. He said he expected a 5 star resort and a bunch of other amenities that we did not have. Our VRBO listing clearly states our place is a CAMPING EXPERIENCE and although we provide furniture, electricity, A/C, and lush bedding it is still “camping” in a canvas tipi structure. It also states all of this on our website and our Facebook page. We have never claimed to be more than we are but he did not do his homework if he was expecting a brick and mortar resort. When he arrived and realized his mistake in his booking his first instinct was to run us into the ground rather than admit he did not book correctly for his expectations. We understand camping is not for everyone e but we did our part and kept our end of the bargain. Our tipis and restrooms are clean and do not smell as he has suggested. All of our linens are fresh and installed the day of the reservation. Our restrooms are cleaned daily and we keep them well stocked with paper products. I invite you to look at our numerous other reviews that show we keep a very clean and comfortable space for our guests. Mr Maldonado should have done his research and if he was not a camper should not have wasted our time preparing a space that he was never going to be happy with.
We got there a the property was not very well lit, everything was wet, quite literally dripping. There was unsafe cords an water near them. The teepee had mold an the rain fly dint not zip properly. A floor board was bowed up wards, causing a tripping hazard. The cooking area was flooded, a there was old food on one of the cooking areas.

We're sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations. However, we do want to clarify a few important points for future guests. Our listing clearly states that this is a camping experience in authentic Sioux-style canvas tipis, and that all accommodations are outdoors. We encourage all guests to read the full description and view the photos to ensure it’s the right fit for their needs.
As with any outdoor setting, weather conditions such as rain can affect the environment—including some water at the entry of the tipi, which does not have a covered porch. This is part of the nature-based experience we offer, and is reflected in our clearly stated policies, including those related to weather-related discomforts.
We understand that this style of lodging isn’t for everyone. However, we were unable to offer a refund due to our cancellation policy, which is agreed to at the time of booking and enforced by the platform.
While we're disappointed by your review, we remain committed to providing a unique and transparent experience for guests who are looking for an authentic camping adventure.
This was such an awesome experience for our anniversary weekend! Definitely coming back w our families. Great place to unplug and unwind! Beautiful scenery and the owners are amazing!! Very easy to communicate with!

We are glad to know your experience with us, thank you for share special comments, we love to have you again.
Five tipis on the property. The property owner takes care of everything. He continually brought wood during our stay over a very cold weekend. The tipis are great! Felt like camping (which my kids loved) except with beds, a heated blanket and space heaters. Not to mention that the idea alone is fun!
We brought walkie talkies and our kids had a blast playing with the other families that were there. There’s a pond/lake and a paddle boat and a couple of kayaks. The kids went for a few nature walks and I relaxed by the fire. Lake Tawakoni was not far away but we had plenty of fun sticking close to the tipis!
Very neat place to stay. Owners were great and near by if a need were to arise (which didn't for us). We got in kind of late and Johnny was there to greet us and show us our tipi and the bath house (only about 50 yards from the tipi). Hammock & swing chairs by the pond were relaxing. Gas grill and fire pit handy for those that choose to cook. Plenty of games and activities for children and adults. Had a wonderful stay, will book again.

About the host
Hosted by Johnny & Shanna Stanbrough
Welcome to The Arrowhead Tipi Resort located along the banks of lake Tawakoni. Growing up in the mountains of the Lincoln National Forest, and next door to the Mescalero Indian Reservation, instilled a deep appreciation for the Native American lifestyle and the nomadic tipis themselves. We are so excited to share this unique camping experience. It’s “Glamping” under the stars for those who want to camp without giving up comfort. Trust me when I say this is not an ordinary hotel experience. - Johnny aka: The Tipi Dude
