The Gage/Murphy Mansion is a crown jewel from the early days of Prescott and located just 2 blocks away from Courthouse Square and Whiskey Row. Originally constructed in 1895 as the family home of business tycoon E.B. Gage, and later railroad tycoon Frank M. Murphy, this restored monument of local history has been just steps away from the heart of Prescott for over 125 years.
The space:
The entire home is 7274 sq ft with a total of 10 units spread out amongst 3 floors and a basement, each unique to one another in size, layout, and design – come back and stay at them all for a different experience each time! You will not find another gem like this in all of Prescott.
Unit 5 - “The Symphony Room” is upstairs on the 2nd level and is approx. 350 sq ft with 1 bed/1 bath. This cozy space has 1 mid-size bedroom with a full-size bed, writing desk, and a 39” TV, a bathroom with a stand-up shower, and a full kitchen for your use and enjoyment.
Guest access:
The building itself has two main entrances. One is through the front door of the home which can be accessed from the front porch on the north side of the house that faces Gurley St. The other is located through the Mansion’s side door on the West side of the building, which you can see from S Alarcon St. The side door is closer to the parking, but the main entrance is a bit more “grand” – feel free to use either.
Unit 5 can be accessed through either main entrance. Once you’ve entered the building, walk up the stairs to the 2nd level, and the door to “The Symphony Room” is in the middle of the hallway.
Other things to note:
Please respect and take care of the home during your stay. Much of it is original and cannot be replaced.
As much of it is original please expect some creaking floors and other noises and sights that come with a home that’s well over 100 years old. We think it adds to the appeal! But not everyone may think the same way so, just a heads up 😊.
Parking is first come first serve and is limited to 1 vehicle per unit. There is an upper level parking lot accessed via the private road immediately to the south of the building, and a smaller lower level parking lot on the same level as the building. Street parking is also available.
The location is amazing - just 2 short blocks from the square! However, like any other hotels or stays that are near a city center there may be some noise (mostly passing traffic) to deal with. The south side and lower floor rooms (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 2B) are quieter. And the ones closest to Gurley St (4, 7, 1B) are slightly noisier. Some guests notice it, others don’t, but we thought it deserved at least a mention to consider when booking.
All rooms have at least 1 portable A/C unit for those summer months when it can get a little warm. The larger units have 2 in them. There are fans in each room as well. For the winter months there is a boiler system that generates heat for the house and all rooms.
All TV’s are subscribed to Hulu Live TV which includes 75+ channels and all Hulu content. Other streaming apps are installed but depending on the service you may need to login to them using your own account info to access content. Please log out of them before leaving to prevent the use of your account by others.
All guests have access to the common areas of the home as well as the outside common areas. While you are free to explore the inside of the Mansion please be considerate of other guests that may be staying and do your best not to disturb them, including keeping noise down to a reasonable level.
There is a shared laundry room on the south side of the building. Laundry supplies are not provided but there are 2 washers and 2 dryers available for use if you provide your own.
A commercial water softener is connected to the house. Its still not advisable to drink directly from the faucet but the showers and linens should feel nice! Enjoy!
Please read the Guest book in the unit for more details on the Mansion, it’s unique history, important house rules, and other useful info.
We want you to have the most comfortable and enjoyable stay possible, so if there’s anything we can do to make your stay better please just let us know!

Quaint historical home. Short walk to Whiskey Row.All necessities provided.Hosts are very responsive, easy to work.Clean, ample parking. What’s not to like?Would return!
It was just myself so I didn't need a big place. This was a really cool and affordable place to stay for a week just blocks from the action in downtown Prescott. Nice little kitchen, clean and affordable in a unique historical 130 year old house. Highly recommend.
This is our second stay at this place. Love it! Great location, very responsive manager, clean, love that many rooms have kitchens and an onsite laundry room.
If you like historic properties, this place is for you. The location is perfect and they have ample street and reserved parking. The keyless access to the building and the room made the check in process a breeze. It is quaint and quiet. My stay was wonderful and stay highly recommend the property.
Lovely property- very charming. It had everything needed. I would recommend adding some air freshener to mask some of the old pipe/plumbing odor from the kitchen sink. Overall, we had a very nice time.
This property is close enough to walk to all the fun things Prescott has to offer on Whiskey Row and the surrounding area without having to be bothered by the bar scene. It's also great if you're going to Prescott Valley to see a concert. Super easy drive. The property itself is really interesting and you can feel the history. The rooms are big and well taken care of. Both times we've stayed we got rooms with a kitchenette, and it's nice to have a fridge and microwave to do leftovers. Check-in, and parking are easy. Wi-fi was good. The owners are helpful. We love it and will make it our go-to spot in Prescott.
The property was amazing! We were in walking distance from whiskey row. But far enough away to not deal with any late night noise. The property itself was stunning and very welcoming.
