Old Lyon:
This area, nestled between Fourvière Hill and the Saône River, has lost none of the charm found in its narrow Renaissance-era alleyways.
Step back in time to when Lyon was a fair town where merchants from all over Europe came to do business. Its 15th- and 16th-century buildings were home to wealthy families of Italian, German, and Flemish bankers and merchants.
Secretive and mysterious, Old Lyon reveals itself behind closed doors, where traboules (hidden passageways connecting two streets through the interior of a building) and inner courtyards showcase the wealth of their former owners.
And while the building facades may seem simple, it’s only to better reveal their decorations to visitors who dare to push open the doors!
Around the Gothic-style St. John’s Cathedral, Rue Saint-Jean is lined with restaurants and shops. On Rue du Bœuf, designer boutiques alternative with Michelin-starred restaurants. Don’t hesitate to get lost in the neighborhood’s small cobblestone streets!
